  • thanks allot it was very helpful .. <3

  • One thing to add, this works for OpenOffice software as well, in case anyone was wondering. (thumbs up so other people can see?)

Very helpful! I never knew how powerful a tool this was for computing -- i can see why businesses started using this the moment it was invented. :-D I will probably revisit this again cuz I got the basics but it is still a lot to digest in one sitting :P Or maybe I'm just slow!

  • why dislike !

  • Just to note:

In the second half of the video, instead of having to copy and paste in order to have the SUM formula applied to new cell entries, you can simply go to the EDIT preferences and look for "Extend data range formats and formulas" and have it checked so that Excel will do it for you automatically. Excel will know that any item you enter above the SUM formula wants to be added up.

  • Thanks for this video, I just bought Excel 2010 and have never used a spreadsheet of any kind before and it was doing my head in. This has been very infomative and made me reconsider tossing my pc through the wall.

  • Respect!

  • Very Helpful thank you.

Is there a video which shows how to delete the first coulmn withou affecting 2nd

I have converted from my cost price to my selling price and w

ant to email to my customer but i dont want them to see my cost, anything i try screws up my selling price. thanks again

  • @Martin8567 The easiest and safest thing to do is to select only the columns and rows you WANT to send to your customer, and print them to a PDF file.

Another way is to select the rows and columns, copy them (either control C or rightclick copy) and then open a new sheet and "paste special" and paste in the values, rasther than the formulas. Send THIS spreadsheet to him... it's way safer than most other methods.

  • You were making sense until the last 2-5 minutes when you got very caught up with copying/inserting and lost track of explaining yourself. That is a death sentence for anyone totally new to Excel trying to follow your thought/action processes. Otherwise, thanks for the illuminating lesson.

  • 0:54-0:57 LOL

  • thank you so much - very helpful and easily understood.

  • Thanks i never knew how to do formulas till you showed me. Thanks Brian

  • Thank you so much for posting this..! It really helped me. So easy to understand! :)

  • Yes Ill put the link up.. he has 15 videos I think

  • @liveyliveb Might want to publish a link... Motion provides their training free of charge?

  • @vhyndman some of the trainining is free but some are charged.Fernando /Brazil.

  • @liveyliveb

    you are extreamly rude.

  • @liveyliveb Motion Training is good and clear (as is vhyndman's), but in UK English. Some of vhyndman's verbal shortcuts (as that we're adding "the two cells to the left") are easier to instantly grasp, less formal and stilted, more efficient. YouTube's various instructors each have their own unique helpful insights and teaching topics and techniques. The more the merrier. "All of the above" round a view of Excel, esp. in all its editions.

  • love it....has been very useful for me. doing an excel based assessment for uni and this was just what i needed. thank you!

  • pls have manners don't cough in microphone....

  • im trying to put together all available combinations of 48 dogs in virtual dog racing.. there are 8 races 6 dogs in each race.. so there for 48 dogs all together... the calculation i did to work out the number of combinations is 48 squared.. gives u a total of 2304 combinations over 8 races... but to write all these down is going to drive me insane i need some software that can organise this data for me and show me how to write them out.. hoping Excel can do this..Thanks

  • @szabo060990

OK... not exacty sure what you're trying to accomplish... although if you can help me a bit, I may be able to help you.

Is the purpose of the spreadsheet to record the races, or is it to somehow matrix out the possible matchings? I don't know how the race scenario works, so I'm a bit at a loss.

  • that's one hell of a cough you got there sir

  • LOLOLLOL at 56!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cheers bud, saved me a lot of time!

  • What this shows is that intention and content is all important. The cough doesn't matter. Superb presentation.

  • I am trying to have a cell empty if there is no value in another cell. I want to see if anyone can help me, if cell a3 is blank or empty I want g3 to show no value, just to let you you know that g3 has value in it. Thanks in advance

  • Use this formula in cell G3

    =IF(A3,"YES","")

You can replace "YES" with any text string, or you could reference another cell. i.e. you coould put "YES" in cell H1, and replace "YES" with $H$1

  • ya its eay soloutionin formula write

    iferror(b5*e5);0

its mean if it was irror or divo like when you substract any value at 0

then write 0 at solution at g3

  • Very simple, thank you.

  • Pretty comprehensive...

I myself would prepare 3 spreadsheets for a Camel! Next time, add a good hefty "THOO!!" after the cough, and some spittle effects on the screen afterwards...I WOULD!

  • I have had a special Windshield Wiper installed on my screen for the spittle. ;-)

    NIce work tho

  • Your awesome thank u so much! Thanks for tutorial

  • Can pls make an complicated formula?

That triggers another cell to do something or To Trigger another Formula something like that?

  • Yes... formulas can be "nested"...

ie this formula will add a column of numbers

    =SUM(A1:A6)

but you can display 6% of the total in ONE STEP

    =0.06*SUM(A1:A6)

You can nest MANY formulas in one step

  • Thanks for the info!! You just made my statistics class WAAAAY less time consuming.

Though it would have been more simple and appropriate to have done it on paper it came to me as Excel. Your video has enabled me to set up a similar Excel book for a 6x more complicated job. Thank you recognizing the need for and implementing a fine presentation these basic skills.
