You should read the sleevenotes in Plastic Box, it reveals a lot of otherwise unknown meenings about the songs. @BonzoGoesToMexico Good call fella, thanks for the info too, top tune though, at the time I was heavily into 'Disco' but I liked this because it came across as so 'anti-disco' yet there was an ever so subtle 'groove' through-out, under-pinned brilliantly by 'Wobbles' quietly manic, repetiive, somewhat funky bassline. The screetching guitar sound was a master-stroke adding to the conflict alongside John's haunting vocals. My mates were baffled @ the time when I bought this, now they understand.
