I remember Jim in team USA, 1987-1988, I was a kid. Cubans still remember him well. We didn't hear about him after he went to MLB. Cuban government don't like USA. Now in Canada I descover his history thanks to Youtube. We regret he never played against Cuba ever again (Cuba defeated USA in Amateur World Cup 1988, he pitched that day) we admire him so much, that we don't remember the pitcher from Cuba in that game, we just remember Jim. He was GREAT!! He wasn't a disabled man, but a hero.
I remember one season he got injured and had to go back to the minors to get in shape again, and he played for Winston-Salem's single A team, and I was lucky to see him play and got his autograph.

I remember one season he got injured and had to go back to the minors to get in shape again, and he played for Winston-Salem's single A team, and I was lucky to see him play and got his autograph.

man what a story i was fortunate enough 2 actually see his no no on ECL espn clasics and wow i just cant beilieve im just speechless but he should hav defenitly got a gold glove 4 his ability. Jim Abbott what an honor it has been 2 hav u in professionol in the MLB!

You were fortunate to see his no-no on ESPN classics, but I was fortunate enough to have been there in person. Yes I still have the ticket stub and it is one of my prize possessions. That day changed my life.

hes my hero i have the same problem as him unfortunally. my problem was when i was born my mom abicle cord wrapped around my hand and lost blood pressure on my right hand. so like jim abbott i have the same problem. but right now im getting looked at by colleges for pitching. just shows to tell you you dont need to be perfect to go places.

The Cubs entered the postseason with the best record in the league. Wedensday, the Dodgers beat the piss out of them largely because of Manny. That should tell you that it doesnt matter how bad the team is.... a guy like Manny will boost morale with all his HR's!
Without Manny, Sox wont win the WS.

Abbott wasn't just a one-armed guy who played in the MLB, in his prime he was a pretty solid pitcher, posted a 2.89 ERA in '91 and 2.77 in '92. Teams today would kill to have a pitcher like that!

How much heart does he have? I mean we see players who won't even play unless they get a multi-million dollar contract and Jim Abbott doesn't even let the fact that he has ONE ARM slow him down. What a great person and baseball player. He is the untimate great example.
