I thought Drunken Fist Kung Fu capitalized on deception. 1) your attacker thinks you're totally 'faced 2) he is lulled into complacency and carelessness because drunk guys can't fight for shit, 3) the aggressor realizes his folly when he wakes up and picks his battered ass up off the ground. This goes out the window when playing "match-ups" or having a friendly style vs. style smoker with another dojo (and the opposing students expect you to be sober and trained, not drunk and hapless.

lol red belt is the highest belt in many kung fu styles, the kung fu fighter in the video was probably from a mcdojo, considering his age. Also most kung fu styles use sanda/sanshou for ring fighting, not this bullshido drunken mcdojo fighting.

The funny thing is that the karate guys seem like weekend practitioners. You can tell who is really hardcore and does nothing but fighting, but judging by the body type, the clean-cut hair do, you can tell that most if not all of them have day jobs. Its got to suck to know that you can't even defend yourself from someone that probably trains karate 2 time a week

Kung fu isnt about the style its about the user. As a practicer of wing chun i can tell you that this guy using drunken fist style is an amatuer and the karate guy that you are all bigging up is leaving so many openings that a true kung fu artist would be exploiting to kill him not incapacitate

And the funny thing is that the karate guys were being nice and held back alot. If this was an exhibition here in the states with american fighters, the american fighters wouldn't have been as nice; they would've taken advantage of the opportunity and sent one of the kung fu guys to the hospital. I hope the kung fu guys quit this and learn that is better to just not start a fight.

I think kung fu was at one time effective.... It seems alot of the actual practical combat application has been lost. If you look at some of the strikes and techniques they are effective but no one applies it correctly. For example some monkey style kung fu strikes are pretty much haymaker punches but just given a diffirent name and not trained correctly

@afcweswarrior (and everyone else advocating either style as being THE BEST): Read up on Dan Hardy. Amazing fighter extremely well-versed in Kung-Fu, and actually studied in China with Shaolin monks. He walked into a mixed martial arts dojo and was flattened. There are stories about Karate-only guys doing the same--most of the older styles are based off of cultural stigma, mysticism, or principles of armed combat (which is completely different), and stagnate when they refuse to change.

Wel, thats not really drunken master or anything, but the drunken fighter is OBVIOUSLY not trying to hit the karate fighter, while the karate fighter isaiming for kung fu's head...its not really a fair match because the drunken guy COULD hae landed quite a number of devastating blowsonthe karate fighter if he chose to follow through with some of the attacks he threw.

well, the theory for those that may not know s that by swaying and being relaxed you can take alot of the impact off a strike and keep adjusting the distance between the opponants. However in this matches they were clearly not closing the gap and just staying in the kicking zone.

It is frustrating to see bullshido pullup numerous clips of not real profesionals fighting other styles when there is a mismatch in experience.

the drunken style fighter did a pretty good job at avoiding most attacks or at least flowing with them so as to either absorb the impact or just have the strike glance him without actually inflicting damage. that aside though, he really didnt have much of a counter attack and even when it looked he was totally open to do something he didnt know what to do.
