  • Does anyone know whats that first technique he did in the video? I know the 2nd one is a sankaku jime plus armbar.

  • cobra ?????

  • Gene made Seagal shit his pants, tuaght Bruce Lee about submissions, and made Chuck Norris his bitch. The man is a fucking legend.

  • I train with Gene, and show how useful the SuperHigh Mount is for MMA and the Lebellian finish in the Video responses. Please take a look and subscribe to my page over 400 instructionals and UFC fighter interviews thanks

  • @DanTheWolfman1 I wanna train with Gene one day!

  • The thing I really like about this video is that Lebelle is punishing that wimp Mando Guerrero.

  • Le Bell who trained at one point at LA City College, same college that Which I practice in. When speaking with great Judo legend Sensei Hayward Nishioka (also my friend) Le Bell in the words of Hayward " Gene Lebell is one tough guy" I've never heard Sensei say that about anyone else. Le Bell has been known for encircle strength and technique. When u combine both, u already know what the results are.

  • 2 faggots one trying to rape another.

  • @IpMan19 if you and gene were in jail you would be his prison bitch.

  • @sportsjunkie113

only american fools who attend his dojo are already his bitches, they suck each other's nut when posturing under Gene Lebell's instruction.

  • This move is awesome! Great way to follow up submission if your opponent is defending an armbar. I've used it plenty of times while rolling

  • I have this dvd and the one where he teaches how to do grappling with a club and i use to have his encyclopedia of finishing holds its a real good book.

  • I BOUGHT THE TAPES 15 YEARS AGO.

    HEAR THIS.

THE BOOK GOES WITH THE TAPE /NOW DVD MOVE FOR MOVE.

YOU MUST HAVE A DEEP WRESTLING BACKROUND TO APPRECIATE AND LEARN THE MOVES PRESENTED . THE NAME SAYS FINISHING MOVES AND THAT TELLS YOU ITS THE LAST THING YOU DO FOR A WIN OR SUBMITION..

    THATS ALL FOLKS

  • gracie didnt want no part of gene.

  • Uncle Gene would stretch your ass

  • @joustingjay there is a rumor that this bad ass dude made Steve Segal shit himself when they got into a physical encounter, that Stevie started. I have no idea how true it is, but then again you never know.

  • @GrimReaper30 It's true, from what I have heard from a few stunt players out here in Los Angeles

  • @GrimReaper30 There’s a saying that behind every urban legend there is a little bit of truth behind it. If you look at LeBell’s IMDB page, you’ll notice that he worked on 2 Seagal movies, the last 1 being back in 1990. Question is why hasn’t LeBell worked on a Seagal movie in 20 years? Personally I think it's because the LeBell-Seagal encounter did take place. Seagal won't admit it obviously and LeBell doesn't talk about it either because its not good to get a bad rep of beating up a lead actor.

  • the second is a sankaku jime. A judo techniques, not a Labelle techniques.

  • @SigmaStarz You're french aren't you..

  • @brottarnacke mmmm no I'm italian

  • @SigmaStarz Ha! Even worse! :^D No just kidding. Just that french people are usually the ones who feel the need to blame everybody for ripping off Judo.

  • awwwww fuckin bicep slicer fuck those

  • Gene is the best looking guy in showbiz. And he'll burn your house down if you say otherwise.

  • MASTER of grappling! love those faces!

  • Great tech for when someone tries to avoid an armbar. Nice stuff, Judo Gene!

  • I want some of those pants HAHA

  • This video proofs that pro wrestling is not that 100% fake.

  • o golpe é legal...só a atuação que não!

  • judo gene is the man, i learned alot from his book ''grappling master''.

  • Judo Gene didn't start with Judo he started with Catch Wrestling under the great Lou Thesz. Gene could tear your arm off and make it painful all the way. Control, submission, pain, etc. This guy can do it all. Hell he trained Bruce Lee, Gokor and Karo Parisyan! You better believe he knows his stuff. But yeah, he references everything according to catch, and NOT judo. That's why he calls it a double wrist lock or an arm crank, not a kimura.

  • judo people would never call a kimura a kimura... its a ude garame..Just a fyi

  • I was responding to one of these Brazillian Jiu Jitsu guys.

  • thank you

    thats what i call it,

  • I read the first page of comments and the stupidity burned my fucking eyes out.

Ah well, i bet your brothers your uncle anyways you stupid fuck.

Now fuck off you Paper Tiger

  • Gene was the real deal. All the talk about the gracies and bjj... no offense to them... but if you look up your history... helio gracie was a Judo student. And Judo being derived from ju jitsu, the gracies marketed Judo as their own JuJitsu.

  • No ground game? Holy crap you're dumb. Just because sport judo times the ground work doesn't mean it isn't judo. Do some research before you post.

  • judo has lots of ground work. many of BJJ's techniqes came from judo. why do you think its called a kimura lock (kimura was a judoka), in judo the kimura called an ude garami wich can also refere to the americana. they also have technques like armbar which is called juji gatame. judo has kansetsu waza (joint locks like armbar). shime waza (chokes like the triangle choke).

just watch this video of mifune (major leader of kodakan judo)

    watch?v=korAyURbW6c

  • hi

jiu jitsu is the basis of judo

you have to read the history of judo.

i have Brown belt in judo

  • Gl on testing for your black =)

    -Matsuo Judo

  • you get a thumbs up from me and a noted comment, please exaplin to these BJJ fools where they go wrong

  • Common guys. I´m tired of the beef between BJJ and Judo. It doesn´t matter if you call it a ude garami, kimura or double wrist lock. BJJ absorbed alot of Judo. To question that is plain stupid, but the techniques have been around much longer than BJJ or Kodokan Judo.

But BJJ has developed alot in the last 40 years. It´s not always about the submission itselfe, but the setup. So its just as stupid to claim that BJJ is just Judo...

  • hmmm, that explains the high percentage of cw representatives winning the adcc championships ;)

  • @Kletterbuxe Well Judo is the father of BJJ so it will obviously have MANY MORE techniques.

  • @samluke8121 What sayes the magnitude of techniques about a martial art ? Basicly nothing !

  • @Kletterbuxe It means everything, people are always saying that BJJ is just Judo newaza. I have read lots of books on Kosen Judo and Gene Libells books and I their is so many newaza techniques that I have not seen in BJJ.

  • @samluke8121 My father use to know Gene Libell (which I think is cool), also, anyone who says BJJ is just Judo newaza has been smoking crack for way to long and needs to stop! The father of BJJ (as far as styles go) is Jiu-Jitsu. Judo, happens to be also from Jiu-Jitsu, but, was formed to be a sport form of the original style.

  • @cosmicburrito2 You couldn't have said it better, lets not forget that Judo didn't just come from one jujitsu style IT CAME FROM NUMEROUS jujitsu schools all over Japan. it is true that Mitsuyo Maeda taught Judo to Carlos Gracie, but that was the only Gracie generation that knew Judo. How many Gracie's know anything about Judo now?

  • @samluke8121 The Gracie's were more Jiu-Jitsu based than Judo in their training. Yes, Judo was a reason Mitsuyo was there. However, the Gracie's were taught Jiu-Jitsu and from that spawned BJJ. As for how many Gracie's know anything about Judo now? No idea. I'm not even sure if they'd be even interested at this time.

  • @samluke8121 My spelling sucks! I just wanted to say that I'd found out that Kano Jiu-Jitsu is considered Judo in Brazil. I've never heard of this before and became confused. This was my mistake and I'm owning up to it. Sorry for the mix up.

  • @cosmicburrito2 LOL kano ju jitsu is known in JAPAN as judo you crazy fucker! It was originally called kanos ju jitsu by other ju jitsu schools. Jigaro himself came up with the name judo to seperate his method from ju jitsu

  • @cryingindian Hmmm, interesting. Thanks for the heads up. I usually know my stuff when it comes to martial arts and yet something as important as this had escaped me until now. Oh well, you learn something new every day. Thanks again. :)

  • @cryingindian True he did rename it but he did it because it was illegal to train Jujutsu( the gentle or subtle technique) if you were not part of the warrior class. Instead he trained the same stuff without the deadly stuff renamed it Judo and presented it as a way of life Ju-Do ( The way). It was how Judo became a sport in Japan it was called Judo. The deadlier combat techniques were trained in Katas to conceal the fact that they were being trained.

  • u r an imbecile...

  • @JoedirtMike Was? He still IS the real deal!

  • looks like I'm buying the Lebell video

  • I heard about Master Gene choking out Steven Segal. I was told that Mr. Segal was being to rough with the Mr. Gene's stunt crew. Mr. Gene informed Mr. Segal of this and Mr. Segal told him," so what". I don't know all the details but the story goes that Mr. Gene choked Mr. Segal out. Mr. Segal woke up asked what happened didn't like what he heard and went after Mr. Gene only to get choked out again. Master Gene was one of the 1st true MMA fighters. He is a living treasure.

  • I read that it started with Segal saying "I can get out of this with a groin strike" and Lebell ending it with "no you can't"

  • Gene also choked out Steven Segal on the Out For Justice movie set. He made Segal pee and crap his pants and then dragged him off and left him in a cupboard to wake up..

Gene was there with his stunt guys and was fired by Segal and never worked on a Segal movie again. It was witnessed by Dan Inasanto. Bruce Lees famous student who was also working on the movie.

  • I read that Gene was one of the men Bruce Lee learned grappling from. I think Chuck Norris once said that Gene was the most dangerous man alive.

  • Black Belt Magazine gave Gene the title toughest man alive.. they may well have borrowed it from Chuck....

  • Thakyou for coment! I think Gene is amazing! I have the complete video and is very funny!! May be not for apply in real sparring, but is very funny!! And we can learn something. I think this tecniques comes fron catch wrestling. But Gene is an actor too and this is for fun and entertain. But he can kick our ass!!!!

  • @tasiusclein : From what video is this? I'd like to buy the complete video. I'm a pro-wrestling student, so for me it would be very interesting to develop soms catch wrestling moves.

    thx.

  • @tasiusclein Yep, he falls into the category: "Old geezers I do not want to fight" :)

  • no one can beat lebell

  • ROFL..that faces..GENE IS THE MAN..AND REAL MEN WEAR PINK ;)

  • lol @ 00:16

  • Those are some pretty dangerous holds, but the face he makes during the first one is hilarious. I heard he's a really funny guy.

  • love gene Lebell his one of the best!!

  • oo yea and how does the it work? like wat makes the guy cry is it cuz its crushin the biceps or wat?

  • it's a joint separation in the elbow using your arm as a block to pull the joint apart.

  • i dont study BJJ formally but the 1st move he shows!! u can use dat when the guys thinks ur gonna do an armbar and the guy decides to clap his hands together and jus get him in that weird arm triangle right?! sry not good with the names of submission i'm jus new to the whole ground game

  • Well, Actually Gene Lebell is a judo practitioner and he could choke out a man from ANY agle he had. In his time, he was unparalelled. NO man could beat him. 100lbs or 400 lbs, he could take them all. Thats cool for you to take an interest in grappling, good for you. yes this short arm scissor lock actually works, however in MMA i probably wouldnt resort to it just because its hard to pull off and the sport is so evolved. I respect the fact that your honest about not knowing. thats cool

  • A true legend showing a triangle choke long before it was shown in mix martial arts. With an arm bar!

  • yes, isnt that awesome? I have the judo handbook by gene lebell and wurner viets. its from 1968 but its a great book to study.

  • hes doing it wrong you dont want to be parallel to his body for the first technique. eddie bravo uses it for the spider web.

  • Gene lebell does NOTHING wrong. Dude, hes fucking GENE LEBELL. He invented his own free form of Judo.

  • why are you getting mad stop nuthugging

  • nuthugging? lol

  • @Gaffhart77 Yeah even at the age of 70 (sorry if im incorrect) Guys like Bas Rutten would not wanna fight him. He's a great grappler. His top student that i saw from Gene Lebell's website is Gokor. I wonder of Gokor also teaches self defense like Gene does. Cause ive seen Gene grab a guys hair and bite a guy but it was self defense :) nice stuff

  • who is Eddie Bravo?

  • the first man to tapout a Gracie in a major tournament like the Abu Dhabi Combat Club the worlds prestiges submission wrestling tournamnet.

  • nope, never heard of him

  • @vitorshaolin LMAO Just when I tell somebody that they have just posted the stupidest comment I've ever read I come across something as stupid as what you posted. I normally dont respond to such old comments, but what you said was so stupid I couldnt resist. Eddie Bravo has one accomplishment in his entire life while Gene has won multiple world titles, and Bravo never even won the tourney you speak of. Bruce Lee even bowed to Gene Lebell

  • The difference between Gene Lebell and the Gracies is that the Gracies were good at marketing their techniques to the world.

But in my opinion Gene Lebell was/is just as innovative and contributed many "new", refined or perfected techniques to grappling.

I appreciate the credit he gives to JUDO!

  • haha this looks like a karo parisyan technique lol I know he trains under Gene but man tight!

  • i won the mens tiger balm this year for my weight 200-185 with a reverse triangle standing on my head was dope! haha but yeah lots of moves are not allowed in most tournaments. never heard of bicept slicers being banned though..just usually heal hooks which sucks cause i love them. Neck cranks too usually and sometimes knee bars.

  • Bicep slicers aren't banned, at least not anywhere I've been. BJJ gyms teach this all the time, usually as a counter to a blocked armbar.

  • 1. I have indeed been disqualified for using a bicep slicer/SAS.

    2. A catch wrestler says that, the only other people say that are people like you.

    3. A number of these tournaments where just won by a few catch wrestlers and had some that placed well in them too. No other systems seems to be willing to whore its self out to buy all this so called "praise".

    4. I train with a 14 year black belt directly under Rigan Machado and there is no way I would begin changing my base to BJJ.

  • how old is he in this video?

  • Lebell is the man. Reverse triangle FTW.

  • Gene LeBell...man thats awesome. I use the SAS(short arm scissor) a lot. The BJJ players think arm bar and BAM its SAS. Of course then I get disqualified from their tournaments..assholes!

  • I know what you mean. I caught a good bjj guy in a short arm scissor. It was my first time applying it in a proper grapple and I nearly lost it, but I kept working on it and eventually I got it locked and I pulled back.

I believe Ad Santel caught a number of his Judo opponents with this move also.

  • You can also set up a SAS or Bicep Slicer off of a failed or faked top/double wrist too. I can absolutely see Ad Santel hitting the short arm scissors time and time again, Judo(and BJJ)is so programed to think arm bar, but nope, SAS. I was told by a BJJ guy that catch wrestling doesn't have the falling straight arm bar or know how to fight off the back. Where is all this bullshit information about catch coming from??

  • Ill admit that Ive learned many things from BJJ on positioning. However where I live (UK) theres noone but BJJ to practice with. Im thankful to spar with them as they are helping me improve, but I am NOT afraid to say that my base comes from Catch.

There are some out there with an opinion on Catch + a lot of them make comments behind it like "Catch cannot do..." whatever, etc. I still have more to learn, but some misunderstand Catch, just praising 1 style (BJJ) and ignore the rest like sombo.

  • I guess the biggest problem with me is that when I get really good, enough to spar well with the high level BJJ grapplers they will probably want to say I represent BJJ as they trained me. It wont go down to well if I continue to say Catch Wrestling. I do feel it will be a matter of time before they let me go, shall have to wait and see.

What they need to realize, though, is that Catch is what got me into this stuff. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for learning Catch + history.

  • I know what you mean. I used to train at a BJJ school just to spar with guys. It didn't work out. I understand it. Its hard to learn and teach a method when one of the guys is using some else. If BJJ was oh so much better I would have stuck around. One of them is a long time student of a really good teacher and wanted to just roll and go for broke. We decided we'd meet up 3 times a week and shoot/fight and its been a really good situation. I hope something like that will happen for you.

  • You guys are a joke.

    1. You don't get disqualified for illegal holds, you only have to release them upon ref's command.

    2. The conception about catch having a weak game off the back is because some catch wrestlers actually admit to it. Tony Cecchine comes to mind.

    3. Many styles do not receive the praise that BJJ does because it is BJJ stylists that year after year win the sub grappling events (ADCC ect.).

    4. If you are being trained and sparring with BJJ guys how do you have a "base" in catch?

  • PART ONE -

    Hey holderground1,

I love grappling. With that BJJ is on the list also. I do rate it highly especially on the positional strategies involved. However, I started out as a Professional Wrestler but left because I found it to be an insult for me to "pretend" to b a wrestler, so I started to learn its roots and studied old books, eventually moving on to early mma. It was Catch Wrestling I was learning first and that is what really got me involved and to study other arts-judo, sombo, etc

  • PART TWO-

As for Catch Wrestlers being poor off their backs, I do understand that from a certain perspective. What u have to remember is that Catch Wrestling is a sport, just like ADCC or other BJJ competitions are sports. Sports have rules. Old Catch Wrestling rules had pinning and choke holds were mostly barred. That is why their strategy was a little different to modern MMA 1on1 ways.

I wouldn't call C Wrestlers "weak" on their backs, they just used different methods to not getting pinned.

  • PART THREE-

The purpose is that pinning and by removing the choke hold, submission/catch wrestling matches becomes fast and exciting for people to watch, as oppose to some modern grappling where someone is on their back for a period of time. People like myself is always interested in watching any grappling but some out there would consider it boring.

Lastly, I am going to BJJ classes so I get to SPAR with good grapplers. It still makes me a Catch Wrestler, as far as I am concerned.

    Peace.

  • yes exactly. you are well informed.
