First heard this on a midnight show on a alternate rock station in the 70s.Now i find it on you tube and it not only still holds up ,it gets better. The Lord B's Scrooge will now be my holiday tradtition.
@HEV29 Well, child, time for you to do a wee bit of research. You failed to note the year that Lord Buckley laid down this rap? 1959, sucka. Your daddy wasn't a squirt in HIS mother yet, I'd wager. That is the way the hep cats of the middle of the 20th century spoke. Nothing wrong with it - just different. Like you.
Alleluyah, This one I was not hip to until this day. On the subject of Mr Trager's book I had it on order for a year but it never seemed to get itself published in the UK. Thanks mcarlucci and the artists for this labour of love.
God Bless! Never heard this before. Buy Oliver Trager's book about the Lord B. - "Dig Infinity! The Life and Art of Lord Buckley". It's KILLER, and comes with a CD of unreleased live Lord B, and a radio interview with Studs Turkel. Fantastic! To swing or not to swing...that is the hang up!!!
This monologue reminds me of the one that Zappa included in his seventies anthology production called "Zapped", an album unfortunely lost forever in the night of times.
Wonderfully clever, and oddly moving, interpretation of Dickens' story.

Yes. WMMR, broadcasting out of Philadelphia, PA, made this particular piece of ear candy a holiday tradition by playing it every xmas eve.

Unintentionally funny? LOL. Those comedians. Who knew they'd be funny. Subtle bastards.

What is wrong with Lord Buckley? Is he mentally ill? (PS: he is quite unintentionally funny)

I've still got the album! - "Governor Slugwell" is the track - I can still hear him doing the trombones.
clucaspik 4 years ago
Could you upload it to YouTube by any means? Me and the "legion" of fans of Lord Buckley would be forever greatful.
Neopachuco 4 years ago
Hmm - it's the original vinyl. Don't have a clue how to do that. Send me a message. If you know how maybe i'll mail it to you.
