Detto ciò, mi pare impossibile paragonare Domingo a Del Monaco, il quale dovrebbe essere messo in relazione con un Corelli o con un Pertile. Ciò detto assolutamente non per attaccare l'ideatore di questo video, che anzi offre ottimi spunti di riflessione, ma per invitare i commentatori a giudizi più sensati.

P.S. Domingo non può fare il tenore per gli acuti mancanti e non può fare il baritono perché non ne ha la voce: vedasi lo schifo totale di "Rigoletto a Mantova".

Nettamente migliore Del Monaco. Si sente benissimo che Domingo è sempre al limite, mentre Del Monaco è completamente a suo agio. Qui non si tratta di gusti, si tratta di avere le orecchie (e la testa) a posto. Possiamo poi discutere sull'interpretazione: magari Domingo può sembrare più vario, mentre Del Monaco più statico nella sua stentoreità, anche se personalmente preferisco il suo carattere per questo ruolo.

Mario Del Monaco è inarrivabile. E', e resta, il più grande tenore di tutti i tempi. Placido Domingo è un ottimo tenore, ma non accostiamolo a Del Monaco nemmeno per gioco ( e lo stesso dicasi per il sopravvalutato e mediatico Pavarotti).

Alguien ha dicho por ahí que PD es un Baritono alto, pero lo que determina en realidad tu categoria vocal no es en las notas que cantes, sino el color de la voz, el sonido y timbre, NO la nota que estes dando sino como suena en cada sujeto, eso es lo que realmente determina si eres tenor, baritono o bajo. Diferencias objetivas: Repertorio: MDM "EL REY" 50 roles(exagerando) PD "EL VASALLO" 135 roles(aparte otras obras completas). Años de carrera MDM 37 años PD 52 años. Aunque esto son datos quiero destacar la gran versatilidad de Domingo (como ningún otro en la historia). La voz de MDM es de las mas potentes y bellas, aunque su musicalidad en ciertos pasajes mejorable. La voz de PD es de gran calidad y con mejor sentido melódico. Los dos son GRANDES, pero PD tendrá un lugar preferente.

Creo que las grabaciones desde la era de PlacD, son muy diferentes en cuanto a arreglos, programas de grabaciones, estudios, microfonos, ingenieros, masterizacion, que ahora tenemos que ayudan a mejorar nuestro timbre y tonalidad. Mario del Monaco canta con la voz tan abierta, por su naturaleza de vo grande, que llega a serdesagradable a menudo. Por otro lado, la voz aterciopelada de Domingo, es bastante mas masculina, redonda y agradable al oído. Es mi opinión. Ahí queda eso. Por ejemplo, nada mas empezar, cada uno (O lola) provad a ponerla repetidas veces uno y otro y Mario parece que estuviera gritando de lo abierta que tiene la voz, que no es que grite, pero si lo parece, en cambio Domingo no.

beh sei un po' esagerato con i tuoi commenti...innanzitutto domingo non e' stonato, e' un bravo musicista oltre ad essere un buon tenore e' anche direttore d'orchestra cosa che forse non sai e conosce bene la musica al contrario di molti altri che non sanno leggere una nota (pavarotti in primis non sapeva leggere la musica) il fatto che tu vada a teatro dal 59 vuol dire tutto e nulla

Domingo and Del Monaco are two very distinctive artists with their own individual timbres. It's not really fair to use such a dismissive analogy when comparing them. Although I'm not a huge fan of Domingo, I happen to prefer him here because his interpretative style came across better. Del Monaco's massive brassy timbre is a magnificent beast that's harder to capture on a recording.

However, to the comment about his being unmatched in power, give Giacomini a listen. HE was the best dramatic tenor, not Del Monaco. Domingo, OTOH, is the most flexible and just an incredible musician all-around.

@aaronsande I think Giacomini was a good tenor & matched MDM in power.However,MDM'Svoice was cleaner, where Giacomini's was a little Fatty.Giacomini, at times ran short of breath&as a result would not round out phrases.DelMonaco's phrasing was impeccable& he had breath to spare. Giacomini was excellent though& very impressive.I feel that Domingo is lyric spinto at best&Idon't buy the musician pitch.He sings everything forte&doesn't do mezza voce & his rectative's are fair.The voice is strangled

Well, they arent comparable as Del Monaco was unsurpassed in Otello,maybe as Radames and was great  in all spinto roles,while Domingo sang around 130 roles in his career so we cant really point out his signature role as he has none.Domingo is still active and is older now then Del Monaco when he died. They are 2 totally different careers,each brilliant in its own way-Domingo through his durability&vast repertoire while MDM as unrivaled Otello and unsurpassed tenor in terms of power of voice.

Records of Placido later than 1990-1992 have lost most of the brilliance of his early days.

Del Monacos throatbraker technique did not suit the demands of a true lyric italian tenor. I like his voice much more in dramatic operas such as Otello.
