Nice one! Seems like you thought you were going to get busted for being in those elevators but they all left you alone! Very nice catch! See my videos for a few Otis elevators with those same fixtures!
If there's a fire in the hall, the fire will trigger the hall station buttons, and the elevator will go directly to the engulfed floor, and will not leave. This is why they tell you to never use an elevator in a fire.
It's kind of outdated nowadays, but using the stairs in a fire is safest, since you won't get trapped if power goes out, like in an elevator.
That's the sad thing is, you loose the "Cool Factor". If the heat-sensitive buttons had a normal backlight (like many do), they could leave the ones in the elevator alone, and just do the call stations. Otis should do a throwback to those, except a short-travel push button, to sort-of mimmick the buttons of old.
The reason the fire itself can kill you is that it calls the elevator. Since it's always being "pushed", it'll never leave. Either way, actually BOTH will happen, and the end result is the same.
It's annoying when someone enters the lift whilst filming! Why is everyone so friendly in the US? (in the UK you only speak to someone if you know them, or it feels strange - this sucks!)
wow are those touch sensitive buttons?

Because they are Heat-Sensitive buttons.

the light is a vacuum tube. if it over heats it explodes! That is how they can kill you in a fire.

That, too. Good point!
