Ah, smiling Jack, who was born into wealth, who never worked a day in his life, who sent his kids to private schools, who lived in an $800 a month subsidized apartment with Olivia, while earning a (combined) income of $120,000 a year, who heckled peaceful pro-life protesters in Toronto and demanded their arrest, who was caught butt naked in a Chinese whorehouse, who was never a mayor, a senator, a cabinet minister or any in-power position, who lived off our dime and was buried on our dime.
No, you dreamers need to get over Layton. He was never a mayor, a cabinet minister, a premier, or held any kind of in-power office. He did not deserve a state funeral. He appealed to the Quebecers love for lavish social programs, hence the glut of votes by a bunch of plastic Frenchmen who are bribed by billions of tax dollars annually to stay in Canada. Layton is dead and the NDP's "orange crush" will likewise die in Quebec come the next election.

Regardless of what one might have thought about Jack Layton, the result of this election, were stunning. Not only did the NDP vault over the Liberals, but Stephen Harper got his majority. The Liberal party was put where it belongs. It was one of the most amazing election results for a campaign that was suppposedly boring.

I'm going to say what I've been meaning to say rather then getting side tracked again.. R.I.P Jack, he never did make it to the top job but he did show that his party could make a change in the political landscape of this country that many thought was not possible.. his gains showed that this country wants change as we are sick of the what he used to call "Same old, same old" Love or hate his approach to politics, but most Canadians would agree he was a good man who could relate to everyone

Jack Layton's death is a true tragedy. There is so much hatred and anger on this thread, but remember what he wrote in his last letter. Love is better then anger. We cannot honor Mr.Layton's memory if we are being hateful towards our fellow human beings. If we have opposing ideas, why not share and debate them respectfully? In memory of an inspiring leader and a more inspiring man, why not continue his work by being kind and loving to one another?

I'm going to say what I've been meaning to say rather then getting side tracked again.. R.I.P Jack, he never did make it to the top job but he did show that his party could make a change in the political landscape of this country that many thought was not possible.. his gains showed that this country wants change as we are sick of the what he used to call "Same old, same old" Love or hate his approach to politics, but most Canadians would agree he was a good man who could relate to everyone

Jack Layton's death is a true tragedy. There is so much hatred and anger on this thread, but remember what he wrote in his last letter. Love is better then anger. We cannot honor Mr.Layton's memory if we are being hateful towards our fellow human beings. If we have opposing ideas, why not share and debate them respectfully? In memory of an inspiring leader and a more inspiring man, why not continue his work by being kind and loving to one another?

I'm a diehard Liberal, but I will say I would have strongly preferred an NDP government to a Conservative one. I will also say that I like Jack Layton, and have much confidence in having him as the leader of the opposition. I wish him well, and look forward to his opposition to Harper.
While I hope for a Liberal recovery in the next election, I would love to see the NDP and Liberals in the #1 and #2 spots in some combination. No question the Cons will give us reason to make that so by then.

First off, Socialism is a economic system. The only similarity between socialism and communism ( seeing as how it is a socio-political system ), is the fact that socialism was 'supposed' to be the economic system of choice in a communist state( And communism demonstrates the most extreme example of a socialist economy ). Socialism only suggest that the means of production should be commonly owned, and this could be implemented in a whole spectrum of ways.
