Can some one PLEASE tell me what tools to order to do this!??!?! I cannot find a long and thin enough screw driver with a magnet head and the T-15 I can't find in singles. Only $40 sets of 12 that come with diff sizes.
At 3:34 we see the beginner fault by not taking removing the heatsink again after applied cooling compound to check if the whole CPU if covered with cooling compound. The rumour about air getting trapped between the CPU and heatsink if you remove it to check is just a dumb thing to believe.
also he seems to be using a staticaly charged screwdriver - notice how the screws magneticaly stick to the head of the screws/allenscrews! - - you can again use a small blob of blutack pushed over the tip of the screwdriver/allenkey. the screw/bolt will stick to the bluetak as you push the screwdriver or allenkey into the bolt and it can then be withdrawn like that - it sticks to the screwdriver head basicaly thanks to the blutak
He didn't say that at all and in fact statically charged? Are you insane? He said to discharge static by touching the case before working with computers.
And for the screws... well, nowadays even cheap screwdrivers have magnetic tips. But you usually don't need it if you're not totally incapable of physical work.
yeah i dont recommend working on a pc or mac wearing a polycotten tracky top! static!
you can use any socket set, they usualy come with an extention bar, then place the correct allenkey into the socket - use a bit of blutack to stop the allenkey head falling out of the socket

Wait a minute, so at the moment I've got a Woodcrest I think in my 2008 Mac Pro. 2.8Ghz Xeon.
If I get another copy of the same CPU I can just place it in along with the one installed?

Verliert man da nicht die Garantie, wenn man selber ans Werk geht?

I hope they make a video for installing 6-core Xeons.

but regardless of what you say watch the actual video - the screwdriver is magnetic on the tip, see how it attracts the screws.

Be careful! The newest Mac Pro systems (2008) do have additional screws for the fan cage and the memory backplane cage.

Bitte, wo haben Sie den Extra-langen Inbus hergekriegt? Einen kann ich hier in Deutschland einfach nicht finden.
Please, where did you get the Extra-long Allen key from? I simply can't find one in Germany...

Sure you can, I was in Germany and picked up the very long T handle type. Then brought them home on the plane. Nice tools. We Germans are fussy.

I ended up ordering a Torx T-15 long handle. Did the job just as well.
