  • Every time I watch this I can't help but say the quote with Rossi.

  • I love the slightly awkward way in which Reid says 'ye'...

  • Prentiss translated it as well. If you watch she makes her "true" face and shrugs.

  • Reid = Google

  • I'm italian but I see CM in english and when I hear this I love this series even more. The quote is very appropriate in this episode and it is one of the most famous and high verses of poetry. Dante wrote the Divine Comedy in 1304 (Hell) so the language was vulgar.

I love the character also because is italian american like the actor. Do you know that Mantegna was one of the most important artist during the Renaissance in Italy?

  • @MDFKAAA I think he IS Wikipedia. =P

  • Io sono tuo. Fare ciò che volete a me.

Now if Reid said that to me, I wouldn't mind...at ALL. >:D

  • "Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'entrate"

Since no one can seem to spell it right....

  • Hahà!! That's funny cause it seems like "Laciatte ogni speranza che entratte!!" (Sorry, but I think that if you're not Italian, you can't understand what I mean.)

    Debbie.

  • hahahah funny xD but rossi forghet a word u.u it's: "lasciate ogni speranza oh voi che entrate"

  • @dagiranum It's okay :) I went and got myself another bible. It's the right name this time! Thanks.

  • Rossi pronounces italian awfully!|!! He must be at least third generation

  • Well we learn new things all the time! Thanks for sharing that peice of information. My apologies, I was merely following what was written in my bible... y

  • @SynesthesiaSoup It's not a problem. Sorry if I came on a touch strong. It just happens to be one of my pet peeves when call people it Revelations especially after a lady on public transit once spent 20 minutes trying to convince me to switch to whatever denomination she was and kept talking about the book, but could never seem to call it by the right name.

You might want to check into getting a different edition of the bible though. Just saying. ;)

  • I love how Rossi just leaves knowing Reid will explain it all.

  • The only difference between Reid and Wikipedia is that you can always rely on Reid being right- no one can edit him faultily!

  • @TheOnlyShauna and you can also hug Reid you cant hug wikipedia! also Reid is hotter than wikipedia.

  • @coolcat111839

RIght: Reid is a cuddly encyclopedia!

  • @Elenasniff lolz!! yush!! hes a cuddly encyclopedia!! I'd check him out anytime (wiggles eyebrows) eheheheheheh............

  • @coolcat111839 Actually, you can't check out an encyclopedia. They're reference books, and most libraries have a strict policy about them that you can only read them in the building, or around it if it has outdoor sections. Though, in the sense you're talking about, I suppose you could, but why you'd "check out" a book...

    I-I'll shut up now.

  • @80MasterOfDisaster08 i know that, i was just making a point,

  • my parents bought me an entire set of britanica encyclopedias :D

  • @80MasterOfDisaster08 No ! Keep speaking ! And, let me guess... you are the hidden brother of Spencer ?

  • @cam0248 Ahah! That makes this technically the sixth time I've been mistaken for a guy - first over the internet. Though, a username doesn't reveal much, so it's a pretty warranted assumption. I'm flattered by your insistance that I continue my ramblings; and, no, I'm afraid I don't have any relations to Spencer... or the area known as Las Vegas... Thank goodness.

  • @TheOnlyShauna I've actually heard him be wrong once. I think it was in the episode 'Revelations,' but I may be wrong. He called the book in the bible the book of "Revelations" when it is actually just "Revelation." It isn't a very big error, but it is one that I would expect Reid to know. This is the only thing I've ever caught him being inccorect with though.

And y'all don't start jumping on me saying that I'm dissing on Reid or anything. He's my favorite character in the show.

  • @dagniranum Hey nice spot there! I can't believe I never noticed that. I'm always looking out for mistakes. Damn it!

Oh well props to you :) I'll just go take off my I Heart Spencer Reid T-shirt and hang my head in shame for the rest of the night!

  • @dagniranum It actually is Revelations...

  • @SynesthesiaSoup No, it isn't. The full name of the book is "The Book of the Revelation of John." Anyone who calls it the Book of Revelations is wrong. If you don't believe me, then google it. You'll find it called the Book of Revelation everywhere. Here is a part of the first line on the wikipedia page.

"The Book of the Revelation of John, often referred to as the Book of Revelation or simply Revelation, (often erroneously dubbed "Revelations")"

The definition of erroneous is containing or

  • @SynesthesiaSoup derived from error, meaning that anyone who calls it Revelations is calling the book by the wrong name.

  • REID IS THE B.E.S.T.

  • well, all i know is that it isn't dutch, french, english, german, greek, spanish, or latin. those are the languages i speak... i think it is italian??

  • @xfreya17 You speak Latin? I quite respect you.

  • I'm Italian and the quote is in Italian. But the line of poetry is "lasciate ogni speranza, voi che entrate"

  • I'm watching Criminal minds all week, but this is not English right?

  • I'm Italian.. and the quote is italian... but trust me he is better when he speaks english...

  • dante's inferno was originally written in italian NOT German

  • I think the quote is in Italian... But for sure not German...I should know it =)

  • that quote sounded German to me.

  • yeah...but its italian (he actually missed a part of the quote but...who cares lol :p)

  • lmao JJ

    "thanks for clearing that up..."

  • Well, I get that italian is difficult to pronounce, even worse if you actually don't know what you're saying (Like Rossi here) but at least the writers could have bothered googling to see that the lines are wrong, and leaving out 'we' in the sentence actually makes it senseless.

(And anyway, I had to listen to the whole clip to recognise what Rossi was saying, and I happen to be italian! XD)

  • I actually scored points on an essay using that Italian sentence! So thank you, Criminal Minds, you've just proven that tv shows CAN be useful.

  • haha i used criminal minds in my ACT essay question trying to prove something along those lines.

  • @OCFgirl

your comment just made me smile :) lol

  • But... it's wrong! and Joe's accent... terrible... Emily speakes italian much better than he...

  • Ahem......I happen to be italian and the real version is "Lasciate ogni speranza, voi ch'entrate" Dante Alighieri, Inferno, Canto III, vv. 1-9.. By the way......I Iove Criminal Minds.

    ciao e w Leopardi

  • I'll take your word for it. When I'm tired enough I have trouble with English.

  • I'm Italian too...And you're absolutely right.

I'm not picky about the accent, since I understand that is difficult for an American...But he forgets to say "o voi", that means ignoring the subject for the verb "entrare": the result is a totally different sentence, that leads to another meaning (or carries no meaning at all. That depends from which point of view we analyze it).

It's definetely NOT what Dante meant.

BTW, I love Criminal Minds too, and the quotes from each episode! :)

  • Comment removed

  • it's actually "oh voi ch'entrate" not "a voi" :D

  • I saw an episode where a killer started killing people again because his girlfriend left him, at the end both he and the girlfriend jumped in front of a train. Who knows what that episode is called?

  • Thats season 2 episode "The Evalutaion Of Frank 2"

  • No way out part II The evolution of Frank Season Finale of season 2

  • It's 'the evolution of Frank' (I think) the final episode of season 2 (ep21 maybe?) It's on 'boa robin's account - hope that helps ; )

  • That was a Frank episode, wasn't it?

  • nowhere out part 2: the evolution of frank

  • no way out 2: evolution of frank

  • did he like.. read the entire wikipedia?

  • No, he created it! *__*

  • @MDFKAAA Sort of...personally, I believe that Reid is Wikipedia in human form, yet somehow still manages to be SO awesome

  • @narutolame not all of wikipedia is true.

    Reid is allll true ;)

  • @MDFKAAA

Knowing reid....Probably but he probably finished in like 50 minutes :P

  • @MDFKAAA

    he is wikipedia!

  • W il Signor Rossi!!!

  • Il nostro capo del Tira e Tasi! XD

  • Comment removed

  • Reid the translator

  • It's actually "Lasciate ogni speranza, o voi che entrate!"

    He missed "voi",which means "you"!

  • it's actually "lasciato ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate" i believe. archaic italian. the best poem ever written

  • i love Rossi though i wonder why he stays considering he already came back and solved his unfinished businnes unless there is more

I cant wait for next season :P

  • He left a "voi" out of the sentence... It's funny hearing it

  • Hotch be in his own world LOL. His character commands a very strong presence. Great actor.

  • LOL @ JJ's comments and how Morgan looks at him. I love Rossi (Joe).

  • He left out a "voi" X°D

Lasciate ogni speranza, voi che entrate X°D

But he IS funny, in italian. XD

  • I do like him. He has something..

  • I don't like him. He has something..

  • I do like him. He has something..

  • è buffissimo sentirlo parlare in italiano!
