biofuel from food? butenol? hydrocarbons shouldnt be burned (fossil fuels my ass)what happened to coskata and geothermal energy promises. i am so sick of big money phoquing up our 'progress'. THE INDUSTRY IS SKITZOOPHRENIC!! you need to make up your minds, after 40 years plus of flinging bullshot,we could have used the tonnage to burn by now.
If we did put this in our cars, we could take around 900 pounds off of our car because we wouldn't need all the cooling systems. The combustion point of ethanol is 78 degrees. No more cleaning out our pipes because alcohol is a cleaning agent, which would do it for us. ZERO pollution and gas for less than a dollar a gallon. The octane of ethanol is higher than any type of gasoline made so our cars run better. Why not?
Why is the government not growing switchgrass and making alcohol out of it? The stuff grows like crazy (its a weed), it WONT affect food prices because you don't eat it and its cheap to make into ethanol. The final price of this stuff is 65 cents a gallon. It would probably be sold for around a dollar a gallon. WHY are we not doing this? Millions and millions of gallons of ethanol can be made every week.
the question is, what land will you use. Farmland should be used for food, other land, such as parks, wetlands and those used for water reclaimation are good candidates
Ethanol doesn't compete with food. the corn goes to feed live stock after it is use to make ethanol. that being said I believe other things wold be better to make ethanol out of. the price of corn went up because the futures market was being manipulated by big oil to drive ethanol people out on business. please read "ethanol can be a gas". people this is nothing more than "moon shine"
what about the use of water lillies since it is essentially a weed in most peoples eyes, yet it cleans waterways by removing dangerous levels of nitrogen and phosphorous put into the streams by overfertilizing our farm fields. When you have a stream that has too much nitrogen and it enters a wetland that is "CHOKED OUT" by waterlillies, what comes out of the other end is clean water. Granted, it doesn't have many fish living in it because the water lily converts bad H2O into clean H2O=feed stock
Sugarcane ethanol you can get up to 3000 gallons per acre with only rainwater, also it's baggase you can feed animals, make plastic and use it as fertilizer. Also they have a pilot plant that is making diesel from sugarcane.Sugarcane plantation in Brazil only occupies 1% of the arable land in Brazil and 75% of it's plantation is located in the Southern State of Sao Paulo. Also 3% of all diesel in Brazil comes from oily seeds and all gastations you find natural gas.Ethanol half the price of gas. bye
Yes, time to get these options working. If the conversion to glucose then ethanol is about 90% efficient, then it should work. It makes sense just to use the most common easy growing plant like a grass.
You leave out Brazils huge offshroe oil field and the fact that that Brazil only has about 14.6 million cars and it being a poorer nation has fewer recreational vehicles such as boats, 4 wheelers, Motorcycles etc not to mention less farming and construction vehicles such as tractors, combines cranes, dozers etc.
here in brazil more than 45% of our cars runs by ethanol since 80s, here it is even cheaper than gasoline it is possible, profitable and good for the enviroment
It's a better answer then keep drilling for oil which will eventually run out & we need something even if it's temporary to help not exactly solve the problem just help until we can come up with something else that will do a better job then Ethanol
ethonal is not the answer. There is not enough land to grow ethonal for the world and keep the world fed. Electric / Hydrogen power are the only viable source for enegry when we grow low on oil.
How is it the only answer. Yes hydrogen will be expensive, but only now. As the technology grows, prices will go down. Electricity is getting cheaper to produce and batteries are holding more charge while getting cheaper. Ethanol uses oil to make it, so it is not "the answer" because eventually we won't be able to produce it. Getting Completely off oil is the answer. Besides, I'd rather pay more money than not have enough food to eat.
No that is not the answer at all. Without any type of government, civilization would fall. It may seem fun to you, but I'd rather pay $4 for gas rather than roam the countryside aimlessly.
Grow switch grass along roads and highways so that food crops are not displaced.

More research is needed before we start growing.

why does this look like it was made in the late 80's?

I have no idea why people always over look the fact that Florida already has the sugarcane infrastructure in place and could triple America's
ethanol out put.
That along with this new switch grass effort could take a very big chuck out of oil consumption very quickly.

@61hounddog that's an oversimplification. There would be more feedstock and more caloric value if the feed went directly from corn to animals.
In addition, there are more acres in corn that wouldn't be in corn if it weren't for ethanol.
Corn ethanol is a vote-buying joke.
daw162 1 year ago
@61hounddog Clearly there are less calories in the feed if it has already been used to create ethanol.

But electric and hydrogen are two expensive, it would take ten years for that to happen, ethanol is the only answer, it's better than gasoline.

No Get government out of your life is the real answer.
and the prices will go down, if we get government out of your business and out of your life.

Because it is the answer, government overregulates this, less government is better.
jmjfanss 3 years ago
Less government leads to less rights. If you don't have a strong government then who is going to make sure your rights are in place? No one.
LTPapaBear 3 years ago
Because the elites run the government and they have destroyed our constitution.
jmjfanss 3 years ago
ok now you are going from no government to blaming our government. Pick an issue.
