I fed my gold chocobo as many sylkis greens as it would eat until it only said "You're getting along better" before I ever raced it in C grade. It was so fast that I finished the short track before every other chocobo finished going through the spiral in the beginning

do you have to breed your first gold with your black to make a really good wonderful and then breed that really good wonderful with your black to make a 176 speed gold? i'm not sure how to get 176

I just used a Zeio nut when breeding a black and a gold and I went from 159 or something to 176.

You can feed a chocobo greens in the stables to raise its stamina, speed and intelligence. The better the green, the bigger the boost. Max a choco's stats before breeding to have a better newborn. Great Yellow (F)+Good Yellow (M)+Carob Nut=Green Choco. Great Yellow (M)+Good Yellow (F)+Carob Nut=Blue Choco. Blue+Green+Carob Nut=Black Choco. Black Choco (either gender)+WONDERFUL YELLOW (opposite gender)+Zeio Nut=Gold Choco. ALWAYS MAX OUT STATS BEFORE BREEDING.

Teiho's stamina will always be 25% more than your chocobo's. His top speed will always be 10% more than your chocobo's. I've had Teioh with 98 mph in S rank, since my yellow chocobo was 89 (I was essentially guaranteed to lose the race).

I have a few questions, does it matter if you lose a race? To get a gold chocobo you breed a black mountain-river one with a best chocobo and a zeio nut? When you get the gold chocobo, what did you feed it? Thanks :)

The higher the chocobo's rank, the greater the odds of success on getting a special chocobo. To raise the rank, just win 3 races. If you lose one, the counter doesn't reset. I get this with A rank with the yellows while trying to go for S.

There are 5 colors in all: yellow (regular), blue (river), green (mountain), black (river and mountain), and gold (ocean). To get what though?

The opponent ones are inaccessible so there's no white or red. FF9 has a red chocobo present though, if I recall. FF5 has a pinkish-colored one.

Does the chocobo's gender have any effect on it's stats? I notice that my male chocobos are faster than my females. I also have a female gold chocobo with a top speed of 147km.

Gender has no effect as far as I'm aware. All gender is used for is mating - you can't join 2 males or 2 females to get to get a new chocobo.

How many Sylkis Greens DO you feed them?

I was told about 25 for each?

I normally, if I recall, give 49 reagen greens and something like 30 sylkis. This way, I can do 2 full rounds of feeding, for 2 different chocobos, before I have to go buy more, speeding the process up slightly. Cost is not a problem (what can't you buy with 1 billion gil?).

Max speed the game allows you to get is 176. Anybody saying they got more are obviously lying or delusional.

... or they either just don't quite recall or had a typo. I'd think the 446 case above is a typo for 146 (the 1 and 4 keys are adjacent). The 268 case may be 168.

I swear i had a black chocobo with 446 speed. I swear i was sobre. I really can't remember how i got it. think it had something to do with the breeding style and nuts??

My best shocobo ever [Gold] had 268 speed =) but at that time i was a noob, i played it the first time, and i overwrote the savegame -.- but Ullillillia or i dont know how she is called said the best chocobo which can be made is one with 380 ...

I'm a he, not a she. I've heard that 176 is the true maximum. Someone also told of 9999 as the base (familiar?) and some division determines the result (56.8 is what I get, likely rounded to 57 (of which gives 175.42, so I doubt that claim). I don't have access to the program itself.

at the first time i was not very suprised only after looking in some boards and some youtube vids.. i noticed that i probably HAD the best chocobo ever... but there was no special requirements to make this one... i think its oonly a question of luck!

Upon mating chocobos, just use a Zeio nut, from what I can tell.

The speed of the parents is crucial, as is the nut. Lasan nuts will breed a smarter Chocobo, while Pipio nuts breed Chocobos with higher Stamina.

Thanks uli for the info.. I'm definitely sticking with gold chocos to race with. I've seen the enemy away materia a handful of times and never get it on my card. Why can't I just BUY the damn thing!!!!

I love Chocobo racing, but I wish it wasn't so damn hard to get the Enemy Away materia! That's the only one I haven't yet mastered!

I wonder what it is that allows some Chocos to stay fast during the "home stretch" instead of slow down, and also, why I've only seen Tifa and Cid ask to ride the Chocobo. I understand it'd be weird for Red and Cait Sith but surely the others could ride.. even big ol' Barrett!

Hmm.. it seems to me that the regular colored chocos move slowly through the home stretch and at least the black and gold chocos move through it no problem.

With a mountain chocobo (the green ones), you'll easily cross through that at full speed, but climb hills slowly (it's a class 1 bug - the function of the river and mountain chocobos are flipped around). Black and gold ones zip through both unaffected by speed losses.

Actually there is an multiplayer version of chocobo races. its called Chocobo Racing if my memory serves me right. it also has other playable characters such as Squall Lionheart, Bahamut and many more. anyway, too bad the PC version of FFVII doest have R1 & R2. just L1 and L2.

yeah I have put a lot of hours into FFXI. it is worth it if your dedicated enough. Quit a couple of years ago half the time wondering if I want to go back to it. Another game you may want to look into for ps1 would be dragon quest 7. if you enjoy leveling up that might be a good one to choose.

Is FF3 an online-based game? Since it's not, there's a good chance, but the time depends on one factor. FF3 - is this a reference to FF6 (after the US numbering offset) or the real FF3 that was never released in the US until years later. If it's of FF6, then I've already got videos of it. If it's of FF3, then I don't because I don't have it (nor know what game it's with). The same applies to FF4. FF5 is too boring so videos are unlikely.

I don't have the PS2 with me so this is unlikely any time soon. The only game that may never have videos from me in the Final Fantasy series is FFXI - it's online-based. FFX, as far as I know, is not though I'll likely get to level 99 pretty early in the story as well. I've had thoughts of returning back to FF8, and again, level 99 is likely to be reached, probably during disk 2.
