You have to hit the other guy's weapon out of the way before you can go in to attack. This is what they were doing.

I rkn it its all pre arranged sparring (Bunkai), i do similar stuff with the Bo and Sai, once the pattern is down and you throw a bit of speed in there it is just like your fighting we use it at school fete's and stuff for demo's...
