To beat Brock, I had my Pidgey keep using Sand Attack until his Pokémon were pretty much crippled and then using my Pidgey and Pikachu's Quick Attack to widdle away at his health. Not even exaggerating, it took me about a half hour to beat him.

Pokemon Yellow was my first main pokemon game( I already had Stadium and Snap). However when I got to victory road I made the stupidest mistake of running out of money AND not knowing what to do in victory road. Even worse was that around that time I lost the cartridge. To this day I always carry a Pikachu in my party in all of my pokemon games to remind myself of my first ever failure.

@oddballwayne People using the red version and taking Charmander are even more up shitcreek here. There are absolutely no fight-type Pokémons in the area before Brock. And you absolutely couldn't get anywhere beyond that without fighting him. I just attacked him over and over with 6 Pokémon and all normal type attacks until I had luck and won. Fuck was hard

This was the first Pokemon game I ever had!

It took me a few months to even figure out how to defeat Brock, but I beat him with a Nidoran(male) (somehow I thought it was female, though) and it eventually evolved into a Nidoking, and the only 2 Pokemon i used in that first file were Nidoking and Pikachu!

Thank god the broken physics were fixed in later gen's,gen 2 had a FEW problems..but not nearly as much as 1st gen and being able to go back to kanto to make the annoying leaders like sabrina pay made up for it.

I remember when I got this game. It was my 7th birthday, in 1999. My parents totally spoiled me on the number of gifts they got me.

They didn't know anything about Game Boys or Nintendo, so they gave me my presents in random order. The first one I opened was Pokemon Yellow. I was really happy, despite the fact I didn't have a Game Boy or Pokemon Stadium to play it on. The next gift I opened was Pokemon Stadium/Transfer Pak combo, and I instantly became the happiest 7 year old in the world.
