The one thing about corporate profits is they are supposed to go up every year. That is business management 101. Health insurance companies are no different. This is accomplished by increasing revenue and/or decreasing expenses. So, inevitably, the premiums will get to the point that only the largest corporations, and the wealthy (including our beloved congress persons), will be able to afford health insurance. Rush and Glen will have to work hard to convince us the status quo is the only way.
This isn't Obama's fault. He may have caved in to the corporate nazi's but it didn't start with him. The god awful insurance/Big Pharma mess goes way back. I don't trust doctors as far as I can throw them. Taking aspirin and smoking marijuana will go a long way towards improving your health. The cruelty of Big Pharma is one of the biggest stories in America.
How about a bill that limits premiums to a percentage of one's taxable income and makes it illegal to deny coverage, punishable by hefty fines which will go to the person denied.
why cant you use a system like the NHS(i know its not pefect but its cured a hell of a lot more people then any insurance companys) britain can make it work and were like the 10 richest country in the world so why can the richest country in the world make it work
I remember when I was a child and heard about some countries where if you got sick or injured and you cant pay for your healthcare, they leave you to rot. I thought that must be some really poor country, but no, its the USA, RICHEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!!
Ok if you get a hard time insuring your luxury yatch, but your HEALTH!? Capitalism is fucked up.
Health care plots began in 1992, with secret meetings. Managed care killed thousands with "Got an ex-ray and pain medications for you...set bones...no way!"
Pay the fine, it's cheaper. Jolly Rogered into diluted, watered down care with end stage death panels OKed by Bill Gates recently. Why waste money on "gonna dies"? Let's vote 'em out twice...then rescend the mess...

Government takes money away from people = less money for people = poor quality, illegal services to the people (education, healthcare) = harder for business to do better in a competitive environment = fail. The government wants to take our guns away so we can't defend our rights, and then they will take away our money to freely pay for what we wish, and then they will take away our freedoms and consolidate everything into them. That's Communism people, are you blind?
This doesn't make any sense. Insurance companies compete with each other like businesses to get the best plans, cheapest cost, and competitive service. Not a single country that has healthcare run by the government works well at all, and worse the taxes for it go up. What else do you want? A monopoly? I'll tell you about a health care crisis: Obama in office.
@ColonelMarksman As it is now insurance rates are through the roof because the hospitals and ambulance companies are treating so many people that can not pay their bills but must be treated anyway. Wouldn't it make more sense to have a socialized option so that everyone had insurance and the medical providers did not have to make up their losses by charging the insured patients more?
@wolvesrule4ever No. Every time the government pokes its head into something, it gets worse. Go move to Cuba and North Korea and tell me what a great job they're doing. If the government controlled only the military, laws, law enforcement, and absolutely nothing else, everyone would have 300% or more free money on hand because they're not drowning in taxes. That's the true free economy system. The CHURCH took care of things back in the day, and did a great job.
@ColonelMarksman The church took care of the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Salem Witch Trials, the original persecution of the Jews with dogmatic law that ran for some 700 years finally ending after the time of Nazi Germany, the stifling of the sciences, multiple dark ages, the "Divine Right" which grants a family lineage monarchical rule of a country because God apparently chose them, and the list goes on and on. It was courageous thinking men who gave us what we have today, not the church.
@ColonelMarksman I am sure you would not leave a child that has been hit by a car lying in the street just because they did not have insurance. As a matter of fact, wouldn't you help pay for their treatment to save their life? Why not help them have insurance?
@wolvesrule4ever Because it's illegal for the government to consolidate my tax-paying dollars towards it. And no, it doesn't make sense. The federal government's job, as stated in Constitution, is to protect the people with military services and laws (as well as enforcing them). Nothing else. It's illegal for them to interfere with healthcare or education. Those problems will fix themselves if the government left them alone.
@ColonelMarksman I am sorry that you feel that way, but what if YOU could not afford the higher insurance rates for health care or were denied coverage because of a "preexisiting condition"; wouldnt you want coverage? President Obama is trying to help those people that do not have insurance because a) they cannot afford it because of the rates, b) they were denied coverage because of a "preexisiting condition". I do not mind having taxes increased if it will help my fellow American.
@ColonelMarksman I live in Australia, our government run healthcare system works quite well. A lot of Americans seem to think anything even remotely socialist will lead to Communism and it's absolutely ridiculous. Have a bit of compassion for your fellow man.
The sad thing is we pay more in taxes than most socialist countries. They just have one big fat 50% your done. WE have 25-30% fed, 10-15% state 8-10% sales tax, 20% ssi and then a tax on your phone, gas, electric, etc... and what do we get for it? Screwed mostly.
@wolvesrule4ever Then you aren't looking hard enough. What would you rather have? You're taxes go up 300% so you can pay for other people who do have the money to have just as poor healthcare as you, or would you rather complain that you have money to actually spend somewhere else? You have the money, you're just not spending it in the right places.
LOL Excellent I am going to send this via email to my health insurance company. They keep sending me bills even though the referels been approved by my Doctor They also claimed that my Physical Therapy was denied for services rendered even though the Physical Therapy Center was listed in their Patients handbook. God what a bunch of fucking morons LOL , I guess thats what is provided to you through Medicade and SSI Disabilty .
The last time I paid for Health insurance was 1984. The last 4 years I've gotten it through my wife's job - Kaiser of all places. Had I paid Health Insurance for those 20+ years I'd have never been able to buy a house with a real down payment.
Our system is rigged... the new bill isn't any better though.
I really dont see how people dont support the new health bill. I would go into ore details, however my hand was shattered and I have had to wear this ghetto splint fro the ER because I dont have 250 dollars to pay ortho. So typin ist easy.
F' you whoever keeps spamming my LEGIT & HONEST COMMENT THAT U R 2 STUPID 2 ANSWER!!
YEAAA!!! Finally someone FOR health ins. for ALL that posts a rebuttal video!!
I never understood why demonic ins. companies exist in the first place?!?! What is their purpose outside of profiting & turning the sick away?!? Why can't u just pay ur Dr. directly?!
YEAAA!!! Finally someone FOR health ins. for ALL that posts a rebuttal video!!

And moreso, why did not ONE CONSERVATIVE PROTEST $ 2 THESE GREEDY EVIL BANKS?!?! How did bank bail outs benefit me? The banks bought jets, other banks, & everything, then they charge 30% interest on loans!!
why would I delete your comment? Your expressing an opinion that is not offensive. As long as we're all civil, we're entitled to contribute to the conversation.
My daughter is suffering from 101 degree fever and you are telling me youre on a break!!!
To all parents, look into the eyes of your little girls and boys. Are you ready for socialized healthcare? 3-5 hours waiting time, toilet seats stain with feces, people coughing around your kids. Get the picture?
Welcome to assembly line medical services. Now serving patient #4848995758.
Mommy, I am hungry. I want to go home. (3+ hours waiting , too much to endure for a sick child.
REALLY?! I am SHOCKED at ANY ER in a city where u get seen in under 8 hours!!! In DC, homeless go to the hospitals around 9pm for stupid stuff like a toe ache BECUASE they KNOW they WON'T get seen until around 5am!! That means a night indoors from the cold. They have Greyhound Bus, hospital ER's, shelters, or park benches to sleep on. l guess since shelters fill up, they all flock to the ER & bus station!!
Ive been to ER in the city. There was a white American kid around 9 with half his ear lobe torn. His womb dried up and skin came over it before he was called in. They had to reopen his womb to fix it. I think that time I was there around 5 or 6 hours. CURRENT AMERICAN HOSPITALS under the CURRENT DEMONIC HEALTH CARE SYSTEM!!
However while in Japan, where they practice universal health care, there was ABSOLUTELY NO WAIT in the ER. This was shocking!! I have never experienced that before!! There was NO ONE waiting in the lobby, I was seen right away, and whatever was owed, it must have came out of my salary, which wasnt bad for a single foreigner working there.
Assembly line medical service is not part of American dream. Congress, you want the best healthcare for your families, so do we. To all parents, look into the eyes of your sons and daughters. Are you ready for an assembly line medical service? Mom I am hungry and sick, why are we waiting so long? Itve been 3 hours. I want to go home. Your family, our dreams.
My daughter is suffering from 101 degree fever and you are telling me you are on a break!!!
Democrats, we voted for hope and change so that we can share the American dreams. We want jobs so that we can spend $ on our kids and buy the best healthcare for our family. Rich or poor we share the same dreams.
You are off course. When people are losing their jobs and $ is tight. You passing a bill that will make us spend more $ from our tight budgets? Comes November, pots and pans will start flying when people realized the cost from their wallets. Dont anger the sleeping giants.
When you hit people in their wallets you will wake up the sleeping giant. Democrat officials, wait till November. Youngsters, college students, and high school students, time to open your wallet and pay the Govt. mandated health bill and their new govt. salaries like you all do for the DMV. Its the law! You dont have a choice. Uncle Obama and the democrats have passed a bill that will jail you if you dont pay.
Captialism my good friend. Pure free market at work. That means you and I have to seek the small company that fits our needs and spread the word. That will show all the big dogs some real competition ;] Until health care is so low, you can afford it for your dog. It will take a while though as we are littered with government interference in every corner of the market.
Why did not ONE CONSERVATIVE PROTEST $ 2 THESE GREEDY EVIL BANKS?!?! How did bank bail outs benefit me? The banks bought jets, other banks, & everything, then they charge 30% interest on loans!!
And what did it benefit ME or my tax $ to help stupid car companies?!
Too old to marry, too young to bury. This statement was made by a dying grandmother. She applied for govt. healthcare in Feb 09. Her case got delayed until Dec 09. She received hospice care in Dec 09 and suddenly her govt. healthcare got approved. You see, its cheaper to pay for hospice care than to pay for treatments of cancer. Furthermore once she received hospice care, all other treatment halted.
Who I am is not important, but I can tell you where to search for more death panel cases. Look at the hospice program. Follow the trails of how people got on the lists. The journey they took. The stress and frustration of dealing with bureaucracy. The delay of services month after months. IF you have cancer the last thing you want to hear is Im sorry; Ill call you when I get to your case, in 6 months? Time vs Cancer, cancer wins. Bureaucracy = No accountability! Your health. Your choice!
In DC & NY, homeless go to hospital ER's 4 rest til dawn. They say they got an emergency at 9pm and get seen around 5am!! Then they get kicked back out on the street. Their options in the winter is Greyhound, shelters (I guess they're 2 crazy or high 2 try there), park benches, or ER's !!
l am SHOCKED when my wait to be seen in a hospital (especially one near or in a city) is less than 8 hours!!!
And let's look at costs. Who has the cheapest health care? Asian nations like Japan and S. Korea. Who has the longest life spans? Those same nations. Is this because they have nationalized health care? No of coarse not! The EU nations have much more nationalized systems, it is their diet and life style that keeps their costs down and lives long. The US is the FATTEST nation on earth! THAT is the biggest culprit of poor US health and high costs. And you know what? Govt is to blame.
For decades the US govt has subsidized corn and beef so hat they cost next to nothing. This is why high fructose corn syrup is in nearly EVERY food product on the market. Beef is also made artificially cheap in the US, both of these things are subsidizing poor eating habits. Government is causing our poor health in SO MANY ways. Study the issues, the evidence is everywhere! I can't even explain half of the problems if creates!
I agree with u 2 a point! YES u r right on diet & health! & everyone knows eating healthy is TOO EXPENSIVE for avg. to middle class families. Organic food, heirloom seeds, hiring a private chef to cook daily meals is only afforded to the rich!!! But how can u blame tobacco corp.s or food joints b/c folks buy and use their product?
Also, why can't the states create their own systems if we need this so badly? They are perfectly capable of collecting taxes and putting together systems like this, Massachusetts did it all on its own. But what happened there? Costs sky rocketed! health care costs in that state are now the highest in the WORLD! Whats more, insurance companies have lobbied their govt to increase required coverage (meaning they can justify higher premiums). The system makes us REAL slaves to insurance companies!
But no, the politicians don't just want to give the 3% of citizens in the US who might be too poor to buy health insurance the money to do so, they want to create these massive command and control systems that completely distort market mechanisms and result in terrible losses in efficiency, productivity, innovation, and they create shortages to boot! There is absolutely no reason for them to create those systems other then wanting to expand the power of the already bloated government.
Not everywhere nor NOT 4 all da poor who need it!! ln MD for example, u must be a legal foreigner, old, pregnant, or a kid 2 get health care. lf u r self employeed (or small biz owner), work pt, r male, or not pregnant, old, or young
YOU GETS NOTHING!! Even if ur a poor, homeless man, if ur not old or a teen, sucks 2 be u. U better not get sick.
Why do ins. companies exist in the first place?! Your health & life is NOT a car or home. NO ONE asks 2 be born & EVERYONE gets sick!
You chose to buy a house or car. No one chose to get sick! Ins companies exist to make money or let folks die! I went to a Japanese hospital & was SHOCKED there was NO WAIT in the ER. I went right in, saw the Dr. got my medicine, & didn't pay a thing. Not sure how much health ins. tax was taken out my check, but l had a lot left over!!
Innovation, science, & research can ALL occur w/out any health ins. corp. Earlier in the century (as well as in alt. medicine circles where health ins. is not accepted, given, nor used) u pay the doctors out of ur own pocket. I'm sure they had a sliding scale if ur poor (& l wish alt. medicine would do that now) & even did house calls!!
Now it's at least a 8 hour wait in the ER if u have an emergency & house calls are some ancient artifact.
Not buying insurance would work but if you don't hospitals can just charge whatever and you just have to pay because you have no negotiating power. With the current healthcare crisis its basically a question of who to get raped by: the hospitals or the insurers?
"hospitals can just charge whatever and you just have to pay because you have no negotiating power"
In a free market hospitals compete for your business and keep their costs low because of that. Also, we used to have health cooperatives that worked just fine and cost very little... until regulation killed them. It is nearly impossible to make a health insurance company today to compete and you can't even buy insurance across state lines! if we allow competition to occur prices will fall.
Its not that hospitals will jack uyp prices on normal things very much but they might charge you for things that they aren't supposed to charge for, like ambulance rides. Besides, going to a hospital isn't like buying a television. Once you suffer a stroke or get in a car accident and you're life depends upon getting care fast, going to another hospital won't be an option.
"hey might charge you for things that they aren't supposed to charge for, like ambulance rides"
Why shouldn't you be charged for ambulance rides? You are taking up very expensive resources and the time and work of several professionals. SOME ONE has to pay for that, there are no free lunches. As far as emergency procedures go, those are actually relatively rare. Iin Canada the average wait time in the "emergency" waiting line is 23 hours. The vast majority CAN choose their hospital.
Its like Gas Stations. Sure, some times you will REALLY need gas fast and don't have the option of picking what gas station to stop at but since the vast majority of people DO choose, then the stations compete fiercely to have the lowest prices.
The private market provides better goods and services at cheaper prices and in greater quantity then the govt ever can. This has been observed in real life over and over again, don't ignore reality.
I'm not ignoring reality. The U.S is placed as 37th on the healthcare system rankings. To put that in perspective Cuba is 39th, Morocco is 29th and Colombia is 22nd. Hows that for free trade keeping the healthcare system in good order? Free market doesn't work as well in the medical system. The idea of Capitalism is an idea that is very successful but it just wont work for out medical system. America just doesn't need stubborn people to get in the way of reform anymore.
"The U.S is placed as 37th on the healthcare system rankings"
According to whose ranking and by what standard? If you use the standards of fast and high quality service then the US is number 1. You can do funny things with mixed statistics like that by doing such as comparing how much of our GDP we spend and compare it to our life expectancy rate. That would make the US look very bad, but it has much more to do with our diets then our health care system.
"Free market doesn't work as well in the medical system"
Why not? It works for every other service and it always brings down costs while increasing supply and quality. Govt management has been proven to create shortages and to suppress innovation in both health care and every other service or good production. The average wait time in Canada in the Emergency room is 23 HOURS! Medicare is ALREADY bankrupting states even though it underpays hospitals. Govt interference can only do harm.
"Free market doesn't work as well in the medical system"
it will work for other things that are not thing that YOU realy do need becuse without it you will die at age 30 or sooner and yes the speed is best in the usa cuzz most can't aford to go to the doctor / hospital
tho if we wher to go when we needed to go we would olso not have problems given that the helthcare is adiqut witch in the usa is not the case becuse thay can't handel a lot of poeple oviosly
The McCarren Ferguson Act of 1945 should be repealed. It exempts insurance companies from anti trust laws and therefore gives them virtual monopoly power to set and maintain high prices. There is little or no competition in most states so the "free market" guys should really support its repeal. Yeah, right.
"There is little or no competition in most states"
Only because you can't buy insurance across state lines. That is a ridiculous and completely unreasonable regulation that clearly seeks to aid in forming health insurance monopolies. There is NOTHING about health insurance companies that would lead them to becoming monopolies other then govt interference.
They didn't even make a fuss over the bank bail outs let alone the car bail out with MY tax dollars! Why were there NO PROTESTS & anger over banks when absolutely NOTHING helpful came out of it outside of higher interest rates & harder to get a loan!!
The banks did NOTHING 2 stimulate the economy yet EVERYONE gets sicks & needs a dr. at some point in their life!!
If the health insurance companies are truly crooks then why don't you just not buy insurance? Face it, people buy health insurance because they get more benefit then they pay in premiums. Put your money where your mouth is, if you don't think health insurance does any good for people then don't buy any. Until that day your complaints come from a hypocritical mouth.
@Aliothemage You are basically right; the only problem with that is addressed in the video. "Ransom" is what they called it. Your life is at stake. If you have the disposable income OR the savings, you can choose not pay the premiums.
If people got more benefit than the cost of the premiums, the insurance companies would be loosing money. When you see that the companies are flourishing, you realize the companies are gaining more than they are paying out. Good business strategy, but people die..
Your life is at stake when you are buying food too, does that mean that grocery stores are holding your life as a ransom? I think not.
Also, people can extend their lives or make their lives better in other ways if they spend millions of dollars. But none of that is a right. If you want every benefit that society can afford you then you have to EARN it by producing something valued by society.
You know, you can speculate all you want but it doesn't change the fact that the healthcare system is broken, people are dying because of it and you're just sitting back and spewing garbage about "competition" and "self regulation"
You don't think that people are dying because of 9 month waiting lists for heart surgery in nationalized health care systems? Canadian hospitals fly people on a regular basis to the US to perform procedures their hospitals can't or won't. The leaders of European nations often get their most important surgeries done in the US. The US has the highest cancer survival rates in the world. The evidence is all around you, just open your eyes!
Agreed, the U.S has a breast cancer survival rate 1% higher than Canada and a prostate cancer survival rate about 4-5% higher than Canada but thats mainly because of massive ad campaigns for breast cancer screenings and stuff like that that you just wont find in places like Africa. And maybe some European leaders come her for surgery but because therre systems aren't as good like nations such as Slovenia or Poland.
"the U.S has a breast cancer survival rate 1% higher than Canada "
The facts: "American men have a five-year survival rate of 66 percent — compared to only 47 percent for European men."
"only Sweden has an overall survival rate for men of more than 60 percent."
These are SIGNIFICANT numbers and they are true for ALL European countries. Also, the only reason EU survival rates are even THAT high is because they benefit from the innovation coming from the US.
Do you honestly not know the benefits of competition? You know, increased innovation and production, falling prices, better quality goods, ect? Not a single economist would say that competition is anything but a good thing. If you would actually take the time to go learn about what you are talking about the answers would be obvious to you. The markets have brought enormous wealth to human society and you are shooting yourself in the foot by attacking it.
Well clearly competition won't keep prices down in the healthcare system because prices keep rising! The numbers are right there and you choose to ignore them. Capitalism works wonderfully for the rest of everything (not including: fire departments, national defense, police departments etc.) but it isn't working for healthcare. And the minute someone calls for reform all the idiots scream "communism!" people are dying and you think that the system has to be fine because there's competition.
"clearly competition won't keep prices down in the healthcare system"
The current health care system is NOT a free market! The govt ALREADY covers over 50% of the health care in the US due to Medicare, Medicaid, and govt job coverage. Also, we are NOT allowing for a free insurance market to exist, we give them monopoly status by not letting us buy across state lines and we regulate them so much that it is IMPOSSIBLE to start up a new competing company! Costs fall in EVERY free market.
and you make a conract when you buy it wher it will say what and what not it covers so by law they have to pay for your treatment if it's aproved by a doctor
4. have you bin out of the usa?
5. the gov has medicar cuzz not everyone can aford the skyroketing prices they have to work 2-3 jobs just to get by with rent/food / bills/etc
(no lowering taxes won't change it raising minimum wage will tho)
People are dying FASTER under nationalized health care systems! They have shortages because price ceilings ALWAYS create shortages! This is economics 101, we have witnessed it over and over and over throughout history. It doesn't work with food, or rent, or anything else. If you keep prices from rising then supply will never catch up to demand. You have NO IDEA how many people have died this year because of all the innovation nationalized health-care systems have suppressed!
i have the gov in germany for exampl makes it so everyone has to be coverd and the gov has her own that covers dire things like idk somtheng life thretning or geting a big operashon cuzz the doctors in the usa wher blinde fools etc but not the small stuff you can get extra encherance that will cover more
"the minute someone calls for reform all the idiots scream 'communism!' "
If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and swims like a duck it is PROBABLY a duck. Communism/socialism is based on putting the means of production in the hands of the public (IE, the government). That is EXACTLY what nationalizing health-care does.
The entire concept is just a power grab, if you HONESTLY wanted to just make sure everyone has health insurance you could give them vouchers, that's all u need.
"If people got more benefit than the cost of the premiums, the insurance companies would be loosing money"
Actually, that isn't true at all. Every participant in a trade benefits. If I write a book and you choose to buy it for 5 dollars then we BOTH profit. You wouldn't have bought it unless you got MORE then $5 worth of value out of the deal. That is a basic tenet of economics, both consumers AND producers benefit in EVERY honest and rationally made trade.
No, that is true in ALL freely made trades. Why else would some one bother making a trade unless they benefited from it? This is a basic tenet of economics 101. There is NO school of economics that thinks differently.
How am I clueless? Life in the US is EASY! I'm paying my own way through college without any type of financial aid and even I can afford health insurance.
That is somewhat of an icy statement, given the current state of the economy. Record breaking unemployment, and millions without insurance speaks otherwise.
Even when your comments are as respectful as they are, discounting the experiences of others, in favor of your own personal experience tends to take away from your argument's strength.
"That is somewhat of an icy statement, given the current state of the economy."
How do you think the economy got that way in the first place? People decided to try to defy the laws of reality by letting people by homes they couldn't afford. Would it have been 'icy' to tell people to stay within their means? Sure! Would it have prevented the housing crisis? Of coarse!
Just because something is icy, doesn't make it wrong. Reality isn't all cake and roses, and trying to ignore reality hurts.
"discounting the experiences of others, in favor of your own personal experience tends to take away from your argument's strength."
Ok, I'll use the case of others then. Bill Clinton, Thomas Sowell, Oprah, both my parents, the vast majority of baby boomers. What do they have in common? They all grew up in desperate poverty but were able to rise above where they started in life. Many of them even because the most rich and powerful people on earth thanks to America and it's freedom!
Here you went on to examples that were relevant to your own life, instead of considering examples that differ from your personal experiences.
If you can demonstrate that you understand multiple sides of an issue, you can sway the opinions of others, for you appear reasonable and understanding.
Stating your beliefs will simply demonstrate whether or not the lister agrees or disagrees with you...
"Stating your beliefs will simply demonstrate whether or not the lister agrees"
Is that all I did? Or did I give you proof that people in the US can go from being poor to extremely wealthy out of their own initiative and work without the govt? I believe I did the latter. I don't have to demonstrate that I understand some one else's side in order to prove my own. I don't have to prove that I understand a person who believes the world is flat to prove otherwise.
I was trying to explain that not acknowledging, or at least treating a person as if there is no validity to their way of thinking will alienate them, and leave you isolated.
Someone else marked your comment as spam, which kind of proves the point that I am trying to make.
If a person is behaving reasonably, shutting them out completely just pushes them away. Even I had a hard time coming back to respond to this message.
You are sharp witted and were polite, that is the only reason I returned.
"treating a person as if there is no validity to their way of thinking will alienate them"
Would you rather that I allowed them to believe an incorrect assumption to be valid? If a person is shown in a reasonable and polite manner that they are incorrect and they become "alienated" then isn't it their REFUSAL to accept a reasonable argument that alienates them rather than the argument itself? I don't see how alienation is an issue anyway, I am aiming to reveal the truth, not coddle people.
A good many of those millions lost it when they lost their jobs. Why? Because the govt practically forces us to get insurance through our employers by making it tax-free when bought through an employer. If the govt didn't interfere people would by personal plans (which they would most likely spend less on anyways) and wouldn't lost it when they quit or get laid off.
Others don't have insurance because they are like me and choose not to buy it. But do I need the govt to step in and force me to buy something I don't want or need? Heck no! I don't drink, smoke, over-eat, or do anything else that puts my health at risk but I'll sure as hell have to pay for less-responsible people when the govt takes over the health care system.
Other millions who don't have health insurance aren't even citizens! They're illegal immigrants!
"Other millions who don't have health insurance aren't even citizens! They're illegal immigrants!"
They aren't considered American Citizens. If they were included, the number would skyrocket, considerably higher than 45million. Only the most profusely bleeding hearts could care to add them to our national health care system.
"They aren't considered American Citizens. If they were included, the number would skyrocket"
No, go look it up. 9.3 million of the uninsured are non-citizens. You are being deceived by the people who claimed that there are 45 million citizens who can't get insurance in the US. There are only 10.6 million Americans who are under 300% of the poverty rate who don't have insurance. In other words, only 3.5% of the population.
Is it all that crazy to assume that this 3.5% of the population is simply not being self responsible? I am actually surprised that there are so FEW people who have acted irresponsibly enough to not make enough money to take care of their own health.
"you went on to examples that were relevant to your own life"
How are the lives of Thomas Sowell, Bill Clinton, Oprah, or the Baby boomers any more relevant to my life then anyone else's?
Actually there are many folks who don't buy ins. b/c they can't afford it or the ins. companies won't ins. them. They get denied, no help & die!
As for state lines, you can NOT get car ins. outside of your own city, let alone state, not having it is illegal, yet car ins. premiums DON'T bankrupt families!
Alt. health practicioners don't use or accept ins. & they are NOT cheap. They REALLY need a sliding scale and l do understand why hospitals charge alot for their services.
I saw this video a couple of years or so ago, and found it hilarious and inspired. It does drag on a little, though, and would be better without the last minute. The first 1 1/2 minutes are great, the first 2 minutes excellent, but that last minute strings it on too long. However, I am grateful for its pithy and jolly satire. Might as well laugh! And sign petitions!
umm, no. The rest of the world works on a socialist healthcare system (well, the large majority of first world countries do). This means everyone takes care of everyone. We look out for each other and our lives don't get ruined when we get hurt.
Gun Control, Abortion Control, Old People Control, $500,000,000,000 BILLION in Medicare CUTS TO KILL, Punitive Denial of Access to Milions or Poor, Punitive Restrictions to Access of Health Care, Punitive Excessive & Multiple Taxes, Punitive Fees, Long Lethal Delays in Treatment , Record Breaking Intrusion, & Wasteful Expensive Burocracy..
Just now, on a single-payer email list, several activists have admitted that only 34% of americans support a United States National Health Service a la Britain and the rest of the world. we need a lot more education—both general and specifically-on-this—before we can hope to get that national health system we obviously need just as badly as anywhere else would.
ok fascists, i'll play your game for two seconds and give you your answer. you know how a government monopoly would do a better job? cuz you can overthrow a government. you can petition a government. you can burn a government to the ground. but try to do that to private health insurance companies. nothing that is private market can ever be thrown out of power, or even challenged. hell, private markets install their representatives IN the government to ensure that. now enough out of ya.
Don't even try. The global psychopaths have carefully plotted how to control their minds. They've put these mindless, emotion-triggering talk show hosts like Limbaugh and Co. on TV and radio to play to the egos and simple-minded "patriotism" of the ignorant. They've persuaded these idiots to vote against their own best interests. And nothing will change until half the US is a third world country taken over by some despot. John Adams was a very, very wise man. He saw this coming long ago.
OK...Look..This conversation is beyond boot-licking.
1) "global" psychopaths? You're talking about the majority of the free nations that HAVE some form of public health care. United States is in the minority.
2) Does this cartoon and it's tongue-in-cheek humor not strike you as being exactly what you're accusing the Repugnatins of?
Pathetic. You party-tards are just sheeple. You DO exactly what you hate the other side for doing.
1) You clearly don't know the topic so you don't understand what I'm talking about.
2) The cartoon explicates a side that is widely discouraged in the US press -- a non-corporate viewpoint. No one is keeping the GOP from running and manipulating our major media yet you are spending a lot of time hating on this one little video. lol
We don't know each other. You don't know me and thus not my context AND an ad hominem attack is impossible because I don't know you. You do seem to be a Dittohead. I'm VERY glad someone is fighting against the Limbaugh social Darwinist who want the lower classes to die to strengthen the species. I don't bother debating anything with Dittoheads, though. Your coding is faulty and your delivery is predictable. Have the last word you will HAVE to have since you think like a primate.
I hope you have a few hundred grand saved up in case you end up with cancer or something of that kind. No one ever needs to buy $50,000 of food all at once.
"who was in charge of FEMA at the time of Katrina?"
The same inept and corrupt govt that you trust to manage health care. It is extraordinary how much faith you can have in the govt when it keeps failing you so badly.
Aaah, reminds me of the whole "Steven Hawkings would be dead if he lived under the UK´s NHS!!!" debackle. :D
If you don´t understand why that is hillarious, i suggest reading up on what Investor´s Business Daily had to say about one of the most brilliant people in our time, and what they had to say when they were proven wrong.

Rush and Glen will have to work hard to convince us the status quo is the only way.
billphoenix5 9 months ago
This isn't Obama's fault. He may have caved in to the corporate nazi's but it didn't start with him. The god awful insurance/Big Pharma mess goes way back. I don't trust doctors as far as I can throw them. Taking aspirin and smoking marijuana will go a long way towards improving your health. The cruelty of Big Pharma is one of the biggest stories in America.

ColonelMarksman 1 year ago
This doesn't make any sense. Insurance companies compete with each other like businesses to get the best plans, cheapest cost, and competitive service. Not a single country that has healthcare run by the government works well at all, and worse the taxes for it go up. What else do you want? A monopoly? I'll tell you about a health care crisis: Obama in office.
ColonelMarksman 1 year ago
@ColonelMarksman As it is now insurance rates are through the roof because the hospitals and ambulance companies are treating so many people that can not pay their bills but must be treated anyway. Wouldn't it make more sense to have a socialized option so that everyone had insurance and the medical providers did not have to make up their losses by charging the insured patients more?
wolvesrule4ever 1 year ago
@wolvesrule4ever No. Every time the government pokes its head into something, it gets worse. Go move to Cuba and North Korea and tell me what a great job they're doing. If the government controlled only the military, laws, law enforcement, and absolutely nothing else, everyone would have 300% or more free money on hand because they're not drowning in taxes. That's the true free economy system. The CHURCH took care of things back in the day, and did a great job.
ColonelMarksman 1 year ago
@ColonelMarksman The church took care of the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Salem Witch Trials, the original persecution of the Jews with dogmatic law that ran for some 700 years finally ending after the time of Nazi Germany, the stifling of the sciences, multiple dark ages, the "Divine Right" which grants a family lineage monarchical rule of a country because God apparently chose them, and the list goes on and on. It was courageous thinking men who gave us what we have today, not the church.

wolvesrule4ever 1 year ago
@wolvesrule4ever Because it's illegal for the government to consolidate my tax-paying dollars towards it. And no, it doesn't make sense. The federal government's job, as stated in Constitution, is to protect the people with military services and laws (as well as enforcing them). Nothing else. It's illegal for them to interfere with healthcare or education. Those problems will fix themselves if the government left them alone.
ColonelMarksman 1 year ago
@ColonelMarksman I am sorry that you feel that way, but what if YOU could not afford the higher insurance rates for health care or were denied coverage because of a "preexisiting condition"; wouldnt you want coverage? President Obama is trying to help those people that do not have insurance because a) they cannot afford it because of the rates, b) they were denied coverage because of a "preexisiting condition". I do not mind having taxes increased if it will help my fellow American.

Sogwa 1 year ago
Also, why can't the states create their own systems if we need this so badly? They are perfectly capable of collecting taxes and putting together systems like this, Massachusetts did it all on its own. But what happened there? Costs sky rocketed! health care costs in that state are now the highest in the WORLD! Whats more, insurance companies have lobbied their govt to increase required coverage (meaning they can justify higher premiums). The system makes us REAL slaves to insurance companies!
Aliothemage 1 year ago
But no, the politicians don't just want to give the 3% of citizens in the US who might be too poor to buy health insurance the money to do so, they want to create these massive command and control systems that completely distort market mechanisms and result in terrible losses in efficiency, productivity, innovation, and they create shortages to boot! There is absolutely no reason for them to create those systems other then wanting to expand the power of the already bloated government.

Now it's at least a 8 hour wait in the ER if u have an emergency & house calls are some ancient artifact.

Not buying insurance would work but if you don't hospitals can just charge whatever and you just have to pay because you have no negotiating power. With the current healthcare crisis its basically a question of who to get raped by: the hospitals or the insurers?
dragonsder 1 year ago
"hospitals can just charge whatever and you just have to pay because you have no negotiating power"
In a free market hospitals compete for your business and keep their costs low because of that. Also, we used to have health cooperatives that worked just fine and cost very little... until regulation killed them. It is nearly impossible to make a health insurance company today to compete and you can't even buy insurance across state lines! if we allow competition to occur prices will fall.
Aliothemage 1 year ago
@Aliothemage
Its not that hospitals will jack uyp prices on normal things very much but they might charge you for things that they aren't supposed to charge for, like ambulance rides. Besides, going to a hospital isn't like buying a television. Once you suffer a stroke or get in a car accident and you're life depends upon getting care fast, going to another hospital won't be an option.
dragonsder 1 year ago

"hey might charge you for things that they aren't supposed to charge for, like ambulance rides"
Why shouldn't you be charged for ambulance rides? You are taking up very expensive resources and the time and work of several professionals. SOME ONE has to pay for that, there are no free lunches. As far as emergency procedures go, those are actually relatively rare. Iin Canada the average wait time in the "emergency" waiting line is 23 hours. The vast majority CAN choose their hospital.
Aliothemage 1 year ago
Its like Gas Stations. Sure, some times you will REALLY need gas fast and don't have the option of picking what gas station to stop at but since the vast majority of people DO choose, then the stations compete fiercely to have the lowest prices.
The private market provides better goods and services at cheaper prices and in greater quantity then the govt ever can. This has been observed in real life over and over again, don't ignore reality.
Aliothemage 1 year ago
@Aliothemage
America just doesn't need stubborn people to get in the way of reform anymore.
dragonsder 1 year ago
"The U.S is placed as 37th on the healthcare system rankings"
According to whose ranking and by what standard? If you use the standards of fast and high quality service then the US is number 1. You can do funny things with mixed statistics like that by doing such as comparing how much of our GDP we spend and compare it to our life expectancy rate. That would make the US look very bad, but it has much more to do with our diets then our health care system.
Aliothemage 1 year ago
"Free market doesn't work as well in the medical system"
Why not? It works for every other service and it always brings down costs while increasing supply and quality. Govt management has been proven to create shortages and to suppress innovation in both health care and every other service or good production. The average wait time in Canada in the Emergency room is 23 HOURS! Medicare is ALREADY bankrupting states even though it underpays hospitals. Govt interference can only do harm.

The McCarren Ferguson Act of 1945 should be repealed. It exempts insurance companies from anti trust laws and therefore gives them virtual monopoly power to set and maintain high prices. There is little or no competition in most states so the "free market" guys should really support its repeal. Yeah, right.
medliberty 1 year ago 2
"There is little or no competition in most states"
Only because you can't buy insurance across state lines. That is a ridiculous and completely unreasonable regulation that clearly seeks to aid in forming health insurance monopolies. There is NOTHING about health insurance companies that would lead them to becoming monopolies other then govt interference.

Aliothemage 1 year ago
@Aliothemage You are basically right; the only problem with that is addressed in the video. "Ransom" is what they called it. Your life is at stake. If you have the disposable income OR the savings, you can choose not pay the premiums.
If people got more benefit than the cost of the premiums, the insurance companies would be loosing money. When you see that the companies are flourishing, you realize the companies are gaining more than they are paying out. Good business strategy, but people die..
redeemer1kamili 1 year ago
"Your life is at stake"
Your life is at stake when you are buying food too, does that mean that grocery stores are holding your life as a ransom? I think not.
Also, people can extend their lives or make their lives better in other ways if they spend millions of dollars. But none of that is a right. If you want every benefit that society can afford you then you have to EARN it by producing something valued by society.

"people are dying because of it"
You don't think that people are dying because of 9 month waiting lists for heart surgery in nationalized health care systems? Canadian hospitals fly people on a regular basis to the US to perform procedures their hospitals can't or won't. The leaders of European nations often get their most important surgeries done in the US. The US has the highest cancer survival rates in the world. The evidence is all around you, just open your eyes!
Aliothemage 1 year ago
Agreed, the U.S has a breast cancer survival rate 1% higher than Canada and a prostate cancer survival rate about 4-5% higher than Canada but thats mainly because of massive ad campaigns for breast cancer screenings and stuff like that that you just wont find in places like Africa. And maybe some European leaders come her for surgery but because therre systems aren't as good like nations such as Slovenia or Poland.
dragonsder 1 year ago
"the U.S has a breast cancer survival rate 1% higher than Canada "
The facts: "American men have a five-year survival rate of 66 percent — compared to only 47 percent for European men."
"only Sweden has an overall survival rate for men of more than 60 percent."
These are SIGNIFICANT numbers and they are true for ALL European countries. Also, the only reason EU survival rates are even THAT high is because they benefit from the innovation coming from the US.

"spewing garbage about 'competition' "
Do you honestly not know the benefits of competition? You know, increased innovation and production, falling prices, better quality goods, ect? Not a single economist would say that competition is anything but a good thing. If you would actually take the time to go learn about what you are talking about the answers would be obvious to you. The markets have brought enormous wealth to human society and you are shooting yourself in the foot by attacking it.
Aliothemage 1 year ago
Well clearly competition won't keep prices down in the healthcare system because prices keep rising! The numbers are right there and you choose to ignore them. Capitalism works wonderfully for the rest of everything (not including: fire departments, national defense, police departments etc.) but it isn't working for healthcare. And the minute someone calls for reform all the idiots scream "communism!" people are dying and you think that the system has to be fine because there's competition.
dragonsder 1 year ago
"clearly competition won't keep prices down in the healthcare system"
The current health care system is NOT a free market! The govt ALREADY covers over 50% of the health care in the US due to Medicare, Medicaid, and govt job coverage. Also, we are NOT allowing for a free insurance market to exist, we give them monopoly status by not letting us buy across state lines and we regulate them so much that it is IMPOSSIBLE to start up a new competing company! Costs fall in EVERY free market.
Aliothemage 1 year ago

and you make a conract when you buy it wher it will say what and what not it covers so by law they have to pay for your treatment if it's aproved by a doctor

(no lowering taxes won't change it raising minimum wage will tho)
jannikmt 1 year ago
"people are dying"
People are dying FASTER under nationalized health care systems! They have shortages because price ceilings ALWAYS create shortages! This is economics 101, we have witnessed it over and over and over throughout history. It doesn't work with food, or rent, or anything else. If you keep prices from rising then supply will never catch up to demand. You have NO IDEA how many people have died this year because of all the innovation nationalized health-care systems have suppressed!

Aliothemage 1 year ago
"If people got more benefit than the cost of the premiums, the insurance companies would be loosing money"
Actually, that isn't true at all. Every participant in a trade benefits. If I write a book and you choose to buy it for 5 dollars then we BOTH profit. You wouldn't have bought it unless you got MORE then $5 worth of value out of the deal. That is a basic tenet of economics, both consumers AND producers benefit in EVERY honest and rationally made trade.
Aliothemage 1 year ago
"Every participant in a trade benefits."
That is true in an equal trade.
You can "Get what you paid for", or get "More than what you paid for", or even "lose out on the deal".
That is why we have terms like bargains, scams, and being cheated, lucky. Trade is a neutral term.
redeemer1kamili 1 year ago
"That is true in an equal trade."

Aliothemage 1 year ago
That is somewhat of an icy statement, given the current state of the economy. Record breaking unemployment, and millions without insurance speaks otherwise.
Even when your comments are as respectful as they are, discounting the experiences of others, in favor of your own personal experience tends to take away from your argument's strength.
redeemer1kamili 1 year ago
"That is somewhat of an icy statement, given the current state of the economy."
How do you think the economy got that way in the first place? People decided to try to defy the laws of reality by letting people by homes they couldn't afford. Would it have been 'icy' to tell people to stay within their means? Sure! Would it have prevented the housing crisis? Of coarse!
Just because something is icy, doesn't make it wrong. Reality isn't all cake and roses, and trying to ignore reality hurts.
Aliothemage 1 year ago
"discounting the experiences of others, in favor of your own personal experience tends to take away from your argument's strength."
Ok, I'll use the case of others then. Bill Clinton, Thomas Sowell, Oprah, both my parents, the vast majority of baby boomers. What do they have in common? They all grew up in desperate poverty but were able to rise above where they started in life. Many of them even because the most rich and powerful people on earth thanks to America and it's freedom!

I was asking for you to be objective.
Here you went on to examples that were relevant to your own life, instead of considering examples that differ from your personal experiences.
If you can demonstrate that you understand multiple sides of an issue, you can sway the opinions of others, for you appear reasonable and understanding.

Aliothemage 1 year ago
I was trying to explain that not acknowledging, or at least treating a person as if there is no validity to their way of thinking will alienate them, and leave you isolated.
Someone else marked your comment as spam, which kind of proves the point that I am trying to make.
If a person is behaving reasonably, shutting them out completely just pushes them away. Even I had a hard time coming back to respond to this message.
You are sharp witted and were polite, that is the only reason I returned.
redeemer1kamili 1 year ago
"treating a person as if there is no validity to their way of thinking will alienate them"
Would you rather that I allowed them to believe an incorrect assumption to be valid? If a person is shown in a reasonable and polite manner that they are incorrect and they become "alienated" then isn't it their REFUSAL to accept a reasonable argument that alienates them rather than the argument itself? I don't see how alienation is an issue anyway, I am aiming to reveal the truth, not coddle people.

"millions without insurance speaks otherwise."

Only the most profusely bleeding hearts could care to add them to our national health care system.
redeemer1kamili 1 year ago

"They aren't considered American Citizens. If they were included, the number would skyrocket"
No, go look it up. 9.3 million of the uninsured are non-citizens. You are being deceived by the people who claimed that there are 45 million citizens who can't get insurance in the US. There are only 10.6 million Americans who are under 300% of the poverty rate who don't have insurance. In other words, only 3.5% of the population.
Aliothemage 1 year ago
Is it all that crazy to assume that this 3.5% of the population is simply not being self responsible? I am actually surprised that there are so FEW people who have acted irresponsibly enough to not make enough money to take care of their own health.
"you went on to examples that were relevant to your own life"
How are the lives of Thomas Sowell, Bill Clinton, Oprah, or the Baby boomers any more relevant to my life then anyone else's?
Aliothemage 1 year ago
@Aliothemage

The first 1 1/2 minutes are great, the first 2 minutes excellent, but that last minute strings it on too long. However, I am grateful for its pithy and jolly satire. Might as well laugh! And sign petitions!

Just now, on a single-payer email list, several activists have admitted that only 34% of americans support a United States National Health Service a la Britain and the rest of the world. we need a lot more education—both general and specifically-on-this—before we can hope to get that national health system we obviously need just as badly as anywhere else would.
kikodawgz 2 years ago
ok fascists, i'll play your game for two seconds and give you your answer. you know how a government monopoly would do a better job? cuz you can overthrow a government. you can petition a government. you can burn a government to the ground. but try to do that to private health insurance companies. nothing that is private market can ever be thrown out of power, or even challenged. hell, private markets install their representatives IN the government to ensure that. now enough out of ya.
kikodawgz 2 years ago 2

You DO exactly what you hate the other side for doing.
caltrop69 2 years ago
1) You clearly don't know the topic so you don't understand what I'm talking about.
2) The cartoon explicates a side that is widely discouraged in the US press -- a non-corporate viewpoint. No one is keeping the GOP from running and manipulating our major media yet you are spending a lot of time hating on this one little video. lol
melarry 2 years ago
1) I DO know the topic, so you are clearly leveling an irrational ad hominem attack.
2) This cartoon, and others that I've seen, OBVIOUSLY took a great deal of work. Far more work than a Rush Limbaugh sound-bite.
If you were to, objectively, ask me which side has corporate sponsorship...It would be the side that produced this cartoon.
But then...You aren't capable of objectivity, as you've shown in response to my first question.
caltrop69 2 years ago
We don't know each other. You don't know me and thus not my context AND an ad hominem attack is impossible because I don't know you. You do seem to be a Dittohead. I'm VERY glad someone is fighting against the Limbaugh social Darwinist who want the lower classes to die to strengthen the species. I don't bother debating anything with Dittoheads, though. Your coding is faulty and your delivery is predictable. Have the last word you will HAVE to have since you think like a primate.
