thanks for this....i'm an EMT student (I graduate in May). I go to class/ skills lab/ clinicals everytime falling more in love with this profession. I honestly couldn't imagine myself doing anything else right now. I see these videos and it sobers me up real quick, but also makes me realize that I love what i'm doing even more. Yes it is difficult but I think the challange is worth it, and at the end of the day all I have to do is remeber that i'm doing this to make a difference to somebody
I became an emt at 16 and have been doing it for a year. I wouldn't give it up for the world and once I'm done with high school hope to become a paramedic. Great video it really shows the ups and downs of the things we see.
I would not trade my job for anything, yeah it maybe hard somtimes for the things you see. But the best part for me is saving a life you feel good when you help people, and yeah there is those calls you get that you wish you never did get but I learned im not god im just working for him and I try my best to do well but somtimes you lose one!!
Some days it really sucks, but when that person comes back healthy and happy because you helped them, you couldn't ask for anything better. I can't imagine doing anything different.
Thank you 4 a gr8 vid.I wanted to be EMT since 13 y/o.I got my basic in '99',worked @ a few private co,then went for my medic in '01'.I let license lapse in '05'.It's now '09' & I'm retaking basic course to get tic back.Although it sucks sometimes, esp. the nightmare calls that stick in your mind,I can't imagine doing anything else.
One year ago I posted a comment as a Basic getting ready for medic school. I finally achieved NREMT-Paramedic. It took a lot of dedication and training, but I would not trade it for anything. Now that I have completed my goal, I know that this was the best choice ever. This video reminds we why. Thank You! Paramedic - Ohio
good job, I'm proud of you! stay safe out there! welcome to a new dimension of the field! if you enjoyed being an EMT you'll enjoy being a medic that much more!
I am a paramedic and have been in this field for 5 years...one of the best life decisions i have ever made...at 21 i cant think of a better profession, one that you can love, one that can you hate, one that no matter what you come back the next day and do it all over again. May god protect and assist all who are and will take the call to duty and save someones life.
I started straight out of high school as an EMT and loved the job immediately, I worked full time and went to school full time, got a Bachelor's in accounting and had/have the opportunity to be making more, a lot more in a different profession but instead of leaving EMS for a much better paying job I went to paramedic school and took a job with a hell of a lot more responsibility and little difference in the paycheck.
But I wake up everyday excited to go to work even after a decade of doing it
I have been a paramedic for 10 years and I can count the amount of times that a patient/family member has thanked me on my ten fingers without using all of them. this job aint about the glory, we get none anyway, but we do it because we have the chance to make a difference and feel good about ourselves. oh yeah I said it we're selfish, any medic will tell you that part of the reason that we do our jobs is the self satisfaction we get from it.
in what way didn't i mean it? that it's a thankless job? that's exactly how i meant it. don't be surprised that instead of getting thank you cards for saving your patient's life you get lawsuit notifications from that same patient who's life you saved but were not able to save their ability to walk so they are suing you because they need someone to blame for the fact that they drove drunk, crashed and broke their back which led to their paralysis. makes you feel so appreciated, i love my job!
yes I started as a basic, I worked as a basic for a little over 2 years before I went to paramedic school.
The best advice that I can give you is the same that my first partner gave me "If you want to be a good paramedic you have to first be a good EMT and in order to be a good EMT you have to be natural at the job and work as an EMT for a few years."
He sure does. $11.00 an hour and $2.00 a run, no fanfares or parades. We do it because cause if we don't no one else will. I will never recover from the emotional trauma I have suffered but, I keep going cause I am always needed on the street or on the casino floor. Also, can get rid of that Star of Life on got tated on my arm.LOL!
fanfares? parades? what are those? but seriously I could be making more as a fast food chain manager than I do as a veteran paramedic.
The emotional scarring is pretty much permanent, I still occasionally have nightmares bout some of the horrific calls that I ran over 10 years ago when I was still an EMT. the bloody face of the lifeless child never leaves it's always in the back of your mind and might occasionally spring up and remind you that you're not God, that you're only trying to play Him
couldnt have put it better myself, sometimes i wonder why i do this job, why i deal with the stress, the hours, the sleep deprivation, the missed social events and than i remember the few patients that have actually thanked me for saving their life, or just brightening their day, making them feel like they are special again, and than i know exactly why i deal with all the bad!
yeah seen them here in california too, and not only in their butts either, lmao. i've seen some of the funniest impalements in the front side, you know the calls where you nearly die trying not to laugh.
I'm an EMT brat (both my parents are medics) and now an EMT myself. After all the tribute videos I've seen i have to say this one hit me the hardest and the best.
My brothers and sisters thank you for all you do and thank you for putting your lives on the line for me. Your service to your respective communities is appreciated . Former FF BFD E1
i think that the video is a just representation of our everyday lives on the job, its what we do/see everyday and i just wanted people to see things from our eyes. i want people to see that we're not some hard, unemotional robots, we're human - tragedy affects us too and sometimes a lot more than it affects others.
stay safe out there, and remember ur patients do appreciate what u, although they dont always tell you or show it.
awsome! perfect matched music to pictures. Greetings and best wishes to the EMS workers all around the world! it would be nice to chat with You about the work and various other things. I am from the first paramedic group in our country, so im interested in Your equipment and everything else connected to life saving & ems. just pm, will be glad to answer!
Thank you, that is really all there is to say. I worked on the border of Mexico and Texas, and it was insane, and this video made me remember why we do what it is we do, and we are bonded, all EMS, because we know how in an instant it can be all gone.
When I view videos like this I am reminded why I chose this field. I never realized just how close EMS personnel are. It seems as though noone else understands the ups and downs of the job. Having just completed my EMT-B course this evening, it makes me proud to finally be apart of the team. Thanks
welcome to the craziness that life in EMS is. i believe that this is one of the best and most self-satisfying fields that a person can enter. so welcome to the best field there is!
Do you even know what HIPPA, not hipa, is all about? haha, Gotta laugh at all the people out there that for every little thing--HIPPA HIPPA HIPPA HIPPA HIPPA...Just shut your trap for your own good. And by the way, there is no HIPPA violation going on here. LOL
great video thank you so much and i love the song its from one of my favorite movies im a firefighter but also im part of a squad and i love both jobs im hoping to become a paid emt-p also a paid firefighter too so i love this again thanks.
yeah i love the movie too. i'm a paramedic and i love my job, wouldnt trade it for the world. it's nice to know that i make a difference in someone's life just by doing my job. good luck with becoming a paramedic or a firefighter/paramedic maybe?
thank you. in some cases it is nothing short of a miracle for a person to survive a wreck but they do and no one can explain how but usually it's just nice to know that I was able to help someone, possibly make a difference in their life.
it's an amazing career, but it is not for the weak of heart or stomach. if you are really interested you should definately do a ride along with your local ambulance service or, if they have it, do the explorers program. it will give you a much better view of our job, it's a great career with great opportunities. I personally love the job and wouldn't trade it for the world!
If I only had a dollar for every person who used this song in their fire or EMS video.
