I'm not drunk!... You're cute, Kevin! But why eat Chinese food in Japan? Besides, specifically the "guo bao" here is Taiwanese, called correctly "gua bao" (GUA not GUO,) sometimes called "lotus wrap" by other Chinese, because the steamed dough part resembles folded lotus leaf. Bon Appetit!
In Kobe China Town located in Japan what dialect do the Chinese community speak? I assume they speak Japanese to communicate with everyone in the country but do they speak something dfferent at home? ex. Cantonese, Fujinese, or just mandarin like main land china and Taiwan?
to be honest, I'm not really sure. I don't speak Chinese. There are several chinese people in my Japanese language class. Some are from Beijing, others from more southern parts of China.
Living in Japan and being from the UK, I like to compare Cha Shu Buns to Doner Kebabs. Both foreign food, both have tasty 'mystery meat' encased in bread. Taste great sober, even better drunk.
I had one of those in china town in Chicago! It was more of a filled dumpling there though. They also did green onion and ham which was pretty good too. another great vid!
I was always really surprised at how expensive steamed buns are in Japan. Especially the Chinese variety and being Chinese, I can say.. it doesn't taste very well.. chinesy (yes, I know it isn't a word)
I was replaying to your message "not sure what to eat". I was suggesting mochi, lol. :D We don't have mochi over here so it would be interesting! :P :))) I mean, when do Japanese people eat them? With green tea? What time of the day? As a dessert? Snack? Special occasion? :)
yummy yummy! lol I would love to see you do videos like this more often! like strange foods to elegant foods! Kinda like Andrew Zimerman/ Anthony Bourdain show :D
It's a gua bao (刮包)! Aka the Taiwanese version of a hamburger- steamed bun with pork belly inside. Delicious!

it's basically Siopao, but instead of having the bun entirely cover the meat - so it just looks like a nornmal sandwich.

LOL, there is a china town in Korea.
Is there like a European town fallowing the same fashion? Not to be confused with the Victorian houses deal.
YouMockMe 2 years ago
This Chinatown is in KObe, Japan close to my apartment.
But...I remember there being Chinatowns in Korea too!

$2.5 dolars
is that what every one pays or
the pricese sudenly goes up
for westerners.
YWA32 2 years ago
That's what everyone pays. The prices are clearly market. Eating in Japan is expensive no matter where you are.
