@SMELLTHEBULL AC seem anal about reproducing their studio sound live. On the studio album, the stereo mix allows for tiny differences in the beats that manages to make the song about a hundred times more interesting. You just can't hear it live.

@hugo3290 Wrong -Born Edwin Farnham Butler III in Truckee, California and raised in The Woodlands, Texas with a Mormon upbringing. Butler is the maternal grandson of jazz steel guitarist Alvino Rey, a pioneer bandleader whose career spanned eight decades. His maternal grandmother, Luise, was a member of The King Sisters, who starred in a weekly variety program on ABC called The King Family Show. At the age of 15, Butler started attending the Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire
@LiberTBo That is Will Butler, Win Butler' younger brother you are writing about. Win Butler did go to McGill. Both of them graduated from the Philips Exeter Academy.
@Bipatride - I don't understand what you're saying? Win Butler attended Phillips Exeter, attended Sarah Lawrence College for a year, moved to Montreal in 2000 to attend McGill University, where he met his future wife, Régine Chassagne whom he married in 2003. @hugo3290 More on American Win Butler - Butler moved to Montreal in 2000 to attend McGill University, where he met his future wife, Régine Chassagne whom he married in 2003. Butler has a degree in religious studies.

McJoe, thanks for not "flaming" me - I felt it risky to voice a question like mine in this medium. I was sincere about being Ready To Start liking them, but just couldnt find the tune/album to do it. I figured not all of my friends who like them could like them for no reason. Will check it out. Cheers.
@KeithOlands Haha Arcade Fire fans do not 'flame', we aren't My Chemical Romance fans! I understand your opinion on Month of May and Ready To Start, but in my opinion Funeral is the best album in history and should satisfy you. If not I reccomend 'My Body Is A Cage' from their album 'Neon Bible'.
I keep trying to "get" this band live. Help. This and Month of May are just so noisy and jumbled with weak, weak vocals and megaphone into a mic (which I haven't seen since REM in 1988). As a Canadian I want to like them, but it's only a few studio cuts (lead track from The Suburbs for instance) that I can stomach. Maybe it's like riding a Harley - "If I have to explain it you wouldn't understand". Will try again in a few months....
@KeithOlands Listen to the album 'Funeral'. The first track 'Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)' in particular is impecable. Infact that whole album makes the other two look average, which if you bear in mind that they both got rave reviews shows how good their debut is.
this band is sooooo overrated, I love simple music, it's the best... BUT, when your playing simple music, the lyrics need to Impact me, the song should impact me... these guys, aren't impacting me... i know i'll get shit for this comment, but seriously. i don't get it.
@Passion4Rock88 I think you should give their album Funeral a try. There's still an air of simplicity in the music and lyrics, but in a very poetic and impacting way. Each song on that album is sort of like a story. I would admit, even being a huge AF fan, I would not recommend to anyone to introduce themselves to the band with Ready to Start.
@dom123willis Okay, Mr. Obviously a Twelve Year Old, please tell me why you're watching this video, don't you have a Blink 182 or another shitty band to listen to???
Oh yeah, you might want to go to a hospital to, because with the atrocious spelling you have, I'm beginning to think you have a serious disorder with your hands.
@dom123willis Did you really just mention Arcade Fire and Travis Barker in the same sentence? Do humanity a favor and become sterile, the last thing we need is your musical taste passed to another generation.
heard of these guys...never really bothered until I had the chance of clicking into one of their performances after watching Adele. Definately not Adele, but I bet this people are great on whatever they are on to cuz my feet where not still while listening to this song...
@oliunited6 Listen now,I was told that I couldn't be a 10th as good as this guy,so I told them who I take off for a living meaning I am qualified to say how bad the record industry has become and that shit singers are awarded these days.I am a voice coach too,so I see it as it is,out of tune mediocrity and you know it,but the band is "IN" at the moment so its hip to like them.If you play guitar well,I'm in awe of you,so don't jump down my throat defending people who are of no relation to you.
@2HonestIam You may not like the band, but saying that a band sucks just because the guy sings a bit out of tune is far too snobbish, much too pretentious.
@Ylviste Music snob I'm not!pretentious is what I'd call fans of trendy, mediocre artists that are "IN" at the moment, but will be off the radar in 5 yrs.No offence meant, but you and I both know these will be forgotten, before I need my next oil change on my bike! :)
@2HonestIam I normally agree with you on these hip "indie" bands that are just a passing fad and will be forgotten very soon and i can't help but agree that to some extent, that is what Arcade Fire is. But they have a tremendous sound, they do, and I think that even though the novelty might wear out in a while, they are a very unique band and their first album atleast must be considered one of the best of the 00's.
@Ylviste Thankyou, that's the most sensible, temper free reply I've ever had on Youtube!I know what you mean by the sound as the guitar rifts sound good and twin drums adds to it,but I can't for the life of me undersatand band that keep a shit singer singing, when really he is a guitarist!Get a singer in,thats their job, nobody employs a singer to play guitar!:) Thanks for your level headed repply though.
@2HonestIam They are a band of real multi-instrumentalist musicians able to create a hurricane of feelings and emotions in every stage they perform, no matter how "out of tune" the singer is. Their music, their attitude "on stage", their way to communicate with their public... that's what makes them special, not how talented is their lead singer, but if you haven't seen them live I understand that you can't know this.
Normally, Win is not as "out of tune" as it was that day and if you check the album version you'll notice that the entonation is not sooo different (this performance is not his best act, indeed), the only real difference is that the tempo is slower in the album version.
But don't compare them to other singers/bands, that's just cheap.
@2HonestIam The reason why you can't compare them to KOL (e.g.) is because what really shines of KOL and what really gets into you is Caleb's voice and talent. Their music is rather common. And i'm a BIG fan of KOL, don't get me wrong.
Every band excels in something, and AF does it in the musical aspect, their music is very special and different to what you normally hear.
@mariguanailegal- Man as a man who grew up listening to music, without the groups from the UK we would be lost. Enjoy your band, fine, just don't confuse this group with the Beatles, The Who, or even Oasis. and yes I'm American, so i'm sure you'll have something stupid and childish to add to that.
@mariguanailegal I find that....offensive....I mean america has loads of great bands...but england has Oasis, The beatles, The who, Radiohead, Coldplay, Mumford and sons (who are the opening band for arcade fire in hyde park) and I could name a lot more bands than that, so take that person!!
@bethlolalot I agree that England has awesome bands, but to be clear Arcade Fire is Canadian not American. I don't disagree with your point its that we Canadians don't like being called Americans, because we are very different from Americans. But besides that i completely agree that England has had some of the greatest bands of all time and no one can argue that fact.
@lionheart9999 and so what? what's wrong about consistent c's and d's when they are played so exquisitely? you think you've just watched one video and you see them through? you have no idea about the quality of these musicians. they are multi-instrumentalists, everyone of them is a walking orchestra. anyway you actually spent time writing your comments so Arcade Fire just because they touched you. even if you didn't like it
@lionheart9999 and so what? what's wrong about consistent c's and d's when they are played so exquisitely? you think you've just watched one video and you see them through? you have no idea about the quality of these musicians. they are multi-instrumentalists, everyone of them is a walking orchestra. anyway you actually spent time writing your comments so Arcade Fire win just because they touched you. even if you didn't like it
Me and my mate were having a full blown argument about Arcade fire before this performance, he said they were shit, useless band no one had heard of, i said they were gods. Then this came on. He shut up, i felt smug. Very smug.
He can't even sing and gets awarded! That's the record industry for you,if your different but mediocre to shit you are accepted!and Mumford and Sons?what the fuck is that about?Like a bunch of mates getting up on open mic. night at The Plough & Harrow after a game of pool! Now bite!:)
@Eranmane I'm not being nasty about him,he does sing out of tune though,(I do coach rock tenor, opera tenor and crooning, and power ballad singing, and pop,)so my pitching is acceptable, its the industry I'm angry with as far better groups who don't know anyone, don't get recognised,no need to defend people who don't know you? They were not good at all at the Brits even if you said they were good in concert.I don't bite if someone doesn't like bands I like!
@2HonestIam Christ! Is this all you do? Going on videos slagging people off? Are you still pretending to people that you're an agent? Hahaha you should rename yourself WalterMitty!
@steve30toon I was discusted with the record industry for awarding out of tune singers, and what's so unbelievable about being an agent or voice coach? We do exist!we all have jobs, well most do then,if I made a comment about bigger stars hardly anyone would bite!:)
@2HonestIam If you're such the amazing vocal coach than you'd probably realize the vast majority of bands like Arcade Fire sound far better than most bands of today *cough* metal bands *cough*
You apparently have a severely distorted concept of music.
@mysteryskater48 You said amazing,I said voice coach,he can't singand you know it,Richard Ashcroft can sing as can the singer from Muse, most of the old rock singers can sing,Paul Rogers from Free,Jim Morrison,David Coverdale from Whitesnake, the list is endless,if you can't sing in tune you shouldn't be payed let alone awarded, would you pay a bricky to do your plumbing?no,because he can't do the job,as this tone deaf freak can't,its pathetic sounding but its trendy so you buy it!
@2HonestIam Bob Dylan can't sing for shit but that hasn't stopped him accomplishing a massive amount over the course of his career. Similarly, an artist can have all the vocal ability in the world but it's all for nothing if they can't do anything worthwhile with it. Arcade Fire don't have the most technical impressive vocalist in the world but do you know how much it matters? Here's a hint: Not in the slightest.
@sillyfandango So if someone sounds shite, its money well spent?Your very easily pleased as are most, who but into anyone who's "IN" at the moment.Do you think these will be on the radar in 5 years time?as much chance as Leona lewis growing a personality. You know I'm right deep down!
@2HonestIam If Arcade Fire consisted solely of a vocal line, then no, I wouldn't listen to them but thankfully there's six other members to round out their sound. At their best they're able to imbue their music with a level of emotion that I find more personally affecting than countless other bands, for example the Glastonbury or Reading performances of Wake Up, both of which are up on YouTube. They've already been on the radar since 2004, if not commercially then certainly critically.
@2HonestIam WTF???!!! You are an insult to music, they are my favourite bands and do you know why? Because they are fucking AMAZING! I would like to see you get up on stage and be even a tenth as good as they are. Now go listen to that stupid shit you call music ¬.¬
@bethlolalot Well you are only 19,so like bands that are "in" at the moment, can I be a 10th as good as this singer?I sing tenor opera, and impersonate to the point of being accused of miming,Sinatra,Tom Jones(young voice)Matt Munro,Nat King Cole Tony Bennet,Dean Martin,Andy Williams,Barry Gibb(Bee Gees)young Elvis,Ray Charles,Johnny Cash,Steve Tyler,Caleb Followil(KOL)about 50 singing legends. You probably don't know most of these I take off, that makes you the ignorant one, this singer sings flat!
@bethlolalot If you think someone who is out of tune,is amazing, may I suggest that you are a bit tone deaf? There is no excuse for doing your job badly, and if your portraying yourself as a lead singer, especially at Arcade Fire's level, then you should at least be in fucking tune! Why are you defending them?they don't care about you.Ask your mum and older relatives about the singers and bands from the 60's and 70's,then listen to how good the songs and singers were. Most are shit live now.
@2HonestIam I'm not gonna lie, he may have been a little out of tune in THIS performance but arcade fire and mumford & sons had been touring all year, so they will obviously be a bit out of tune. But if you listen to any other live performance by these bands, then you'll get what I mean when I say they're amazing! So no I'm not tone deaf, you just didn't give these bands a chance.
Yes arcade fucking fire...... <3

@mariguanailegal I find that....offensive....I mean america has loads of great bands...but england has Oasis, The beatles, The who, Radiohead, Coldplay, Mumford and sons (who are the opening band for arcade fire in hyde park) and I could name a lot more bands than that, so take that person!!
bethlolalot 10 months ago
@bethlolalot I agree that England has awesome bands, but to be clear Arcade Fire is Canadian not American. I don't disagree with your point its that we Canadians don't like being called Americans, because we are very different from Americans. But besides that i completely agree that England has had some of the greatest bands of all time and no one can argue that fact.
JordanWalsh0 10 months ago
@JordanWalsh0 Omg sorry I completely forgot they were Canadian, I've just made a fool of myself, just change all the america to Canada, sorry >.<

Now bite!:)
2HonestIam 1 year ago
@2HonestIam Are you honestly trying to tell me that Win Butler can't sing? Did you even watch the video?
Whatever about Mumford. They're not that great. But I've gone to see Arcade Fire live, and I can tell ye: They can sing.
Eranmane 1 year ago
@Eranmane I'm not being nasty about him,he does sing out of tune though,(I do coach rock tenor, opera tenor and crooning, and power ballad singing, and pop,)so my pitching is acceptable, its the industry I'm angry with as far better groups who don't know anyone, don't get recognised,no need to defend people who don't know you? They were not good at all at the Brits even if you said they were good in concert.I don't bite if someone doesn't like bands I like!
2HonestIam 1 year ago
@2HonestIam Christ! Is this all you do? Going on videos slagging people off? Are you still pretending to people that you're an agent? Hahaha you should rename yourself WalterMitty!
steve30toon 1 year ago
@steve30toon I was discusted with the record industry for awarding out of tune singers, and what's so unbelievable about being an agent or voice coach? We do exist!we all have jobs, well most do then,if I made a comment about bigger stars hardly anyone would bite!:)
2HonestIam 1 year ago
@2HonestIam If you're such the amazing vocal coach than you'd probably realize the vast majority of bands like Arcade Fire sound far better than most bands of today *cough* metal bands *cough*
You apparently have a severely distorted concept of music.
mysteryskater48 1 year ago
@mysteryskater48 You said amazing,I said voice coach,he can't singand you know it,Richard Ashcroft can sing as can the singer from Muse, most of the old rock singers can sing,Paul Rogers from Free,Jim Morrison,David Coverdale from Whitesnake, the list is endless,if you can't sing in tune you shouldn't be payed let alone awarded, would you pay a bricky to do your plumbing?no,because he can't do the job,as this tone deaf freak can't,its pathetic sounding but its trendy so you buy it!
2HonestIam 1 year ago
@2HonestIam Bob Dylan can't sing for shit but that hasn't stopped him accomplishing a massive amount over the course of his career. Similarly, an artist can have all the vocal ability in the world but it's all for nothing if they can't do anything worthwhile with it. Arcade Fire don't have the most technical impressive vocalist in the world but do you know how much it matters? Here's a hint: Not in the slightest.
sillyfandango 11 months ago
@sillyfandango So if someone sounds shite, its money well spent?Your very easily pleased as are most, who but into anyone who's "IN" at the moment.Do you think these will be on the radar in 5 years time?as much chance as Leona lewis growing a personality. You know I'm right deep down!
2HonestIam 11 months ago
@2HonestIam If Arcade Fire consisted solely of a vocal line, then no, I wouldn't listen to them but thankfully there's six other members to round out their sound. At their best they're able to imbue their music with a level of emotion that I find more personally affecting than countless other bands, for example the Glastonbury or Reading performances of Wake Up, both of which are up on YouTube. They've already been on the radar since 2004, if not commercially then certainly critically.
sillyfandango 11 months ago
@2HonestIam WTF???!!! You are an insult to music, they are my favourite bands and do you know why? Because they are fucking AMAZING! I would like to see you get up on stage and be even a tenth as good as they are. Now go listen to that stupid shit you call music ¬.¬
bethlolalot 10 months ago
2HonestIam 10 months ago
@bethlolalot If you think someone who is out of tune,is amazing, may I suggest that you are a bit tone deaf? There is no excuse for doing your job badly, and if your portraying yourself as a lead singer, especially at Arcade Fire's level, then you should at least be in fucking tune! Why are you defending them?they don't care about you.Ask your mum and older relatives about the singers and bands from the 60's and 70's,then listen to how good the songs and singers were. Most are shit live now.
2HonestIam 10 months ago
@2HonestIam I'm not gonna lie, he may have been a little out of tune in THIS performance but arcade fire and mumford & sons had been touring all year, so they will obviously be a bit out of tune. But if you listen to any other live performance by these bands, then you'll get what I mean when I say they're amazing! So no I'm not tone deaf, you just didn't give these bands a chance.

IMO they did not release the best album of the year, and i doubt majority of America would say they did
