  • Wait, so you can't go up and interact with them? Laaaaaame.

  • The name of this beach has been changed to Children's Pool voted by the city council of San Diego 80 years ago in appreciation for the gift from Ellen Browning Scripps as she created a safe place for children to enter and enjoy the ocean.

Most of these seals have been introduced here by Sea World after Mayor Goldding in the mid 90's to create a seal rock reserve and now the rehabilitated seals have taken over the beach, and thanks to the city council of today we have a shared use beach for all..

  • This is NOT there NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

Most of this seal colony were introduced here by Sea World in the mid 90's, over 120 rehab seal to create the seal rock reserve that back fired, seals preferred the soft sandy beach and they are no longer afraid of humans. The city of SD did this without a EIR, now we have a MAN MADE PROBLEM ON A MAN MADE BEACH.

    Educate yourself with the facts

Here are a couple sites I found with factuality documents.

  • @MrOunoit When I visit La Jolla I want to see seals. Kids can swim anywhere.

    I've been there many times.

  • @jojopuppyfish When I take my kids to the beach they want to swim and play and watch the seals too. This beach is MAN MADE for the children, like my parents took me when I was a small child and we SHARED the beach with the seals, Im not selfish, are you.... If you can't share this beach then go to Sea World or the Zoo, and if you really want to see the seals in there natural habitat then buy some binoculars and watch them on Seal Rock just down the street......

  • @MrOunoit You can think what you want, but the federal act wont allow La Jolla to move the seals, so you're just preaching wishful thinking. As long as the seals stay, your kids are going to have to find a new swimming, hole, which from what I saw, there are plenty of places to swim around there.

  • Again, here lies the problem, you are not educated with this issue.

There is no one trying to remove the seals! The seals are here to stay! its a SHARED USE BEACH for people and seals. So watch the seals and I will watch my children swim on this beach. And as far as," there are plenty of places to swim around there" That true for the seal and they have MORE places than we can go.

BTW, are suggesting I take my children to a beach that has dangerous rip currants or not protected by lifeguards?

  • @jojopuppyfish Please educate your self, The "federal act" doe's allow the city to remove the seals if they want ! It is called 109h in the Marine Mammal Protection Act.

  • If you want to watch Seals, go to SEAWORLD. Because of these Seals, the Great White Sharks will soon be coming to San Diego / La Jolla Beaches. More Seals = More Great White Sharks. Google this “LA JOLLA SHARK ATTACK” and see for yourself. If you want to swim in San Diego’s Beaches, get rid of these Seals… otherwise watch your back for a Great White Shark when you swim or surf. Return Children’s Pool back to the “Children” as it was intended.

  • Nature at its best :)

  • That mommy and her baby were so amazing. You were so fortunate to have seen such a miracle. Thanks for sharing!

  • Wow I've never seen one actually being born! So cool! :-)

  • I love the seals at La Jolla. Thank you for sharing.

  • now you where in the right place at the right time to get that video good job .

  • Sadly now the laws have changed and people are harrassing the seals and trying to keep them from the beach. This is so beautiful now they are in trouble. The city put new signs up saying Public access at all times and won't inforce the laws protecting the seals. It is beyond sad yet we are trying to keep them safe with a 24/7 watch. Yet we can't stop the people from touching and even kicking them!

  • @italndiva - I dont understand why any person in their right mind would ever want to kick or hurt a seal. I hate people like that. They are the scum of the earth.

  • Yes, they are out there for sure sweetheart. Yet the laws have changed for the seals as people wanted them off of that beach where they live and were born. Finally after years of fighting they are safe on that beach for now. We have 89 miles of beaches and all they have is a tiny part of the beach. We all must learn to respect all living beings. Thank you for caring for all the babies here. xo

  • Wonderful!!! You did a great job.
