I test drove this car yesterday at London Ontario's new Porsche dealership, it's a really nice looking car and it goes fast in a straight line but when it comes to cornering it doesn't perform too well. The suspension in the car is too soft and the rebound on the struts are too stiff. I think Porsche's look nice but their engine is in the back, as opposed to the middle. Yes the car will get traction right off the start but the centre of gravity in the car will be at the back.
@abdulios I think you are going to be the first person ever to say "A GT3 RS does not perform too well in the corners". Haha, are you sure you were in a GT3 RS? Cause you posted this 3 weeks ago, meaning you probably test drove the new GT3 RS 3.8. Which is the best handling Porsche road car you can buy.... Besides the limited edition GT3 RS 4.0.
@PorschephileRS Well it had a 3.6L inline 6 engine with 415 hp. I do not believe it was either the 3.8 nor the 4.0. It was a stock Porsche GT-3 RS. The only reason that I think it does not handle well in the corners is because the suspension provided in the car is really soft which in turn does not exert the full force that it takes in but rather it pushes on the car itself. A more solid suspension will absorb all of the g-force so more traction will be had.
@abdulios Ok, I see what you are saying. I apologize for being brash in my comment. You drove the MKI GT3 RS with the 3.6l. The MKII GT3 RS has the 3.8l. I have actually heard this about the RS you drove. That it felt too light on the front wheels which made the ride harsh, and in your case, loose in the bumpy corners. I know they have worked on this specific issue for the MKII RS and many more improvements. Definitely drive the MKII RS if you can, especially cause you can now compare the two!
Considering there are over 1000 race car drivers for each person who has ever qualified for a F1 race, I'd say that puts Tiff in pretty elite company.
This is definitely more extreme than a Carrera GT. Not to say it's better or faster, but I mean it's more.. pure I guess?
Look at the thing.. it comes with a roll bar and a fire extinguisher. I love the Carrera GT too, but I don't think anyone can deny this is more "extreme" or raw. There's no more sound deadening and any of that. This is just a street-legal track car

He qualified for one F1 race and didn't finish. He has also never one a professional race in his entire career. I really can't understand why people make a big fuss about this guys driving. Being able to power slide does not make you a good racer.
@bob22bob Lol i don't know where you get your facts, but tiff has about 50 professional race wins including single seaters and touring cars. He's racing credentials are far more impressive than ben collins' . The reason why ben has won some f1 drivers, is because he's driving thousands of times around the tg testtrack, the quests only get 8 practice laps.

The GT3 RS is basically a road going version of the GT3 Cup car.

it won't be as fun though and this car is ready to race with racing equipment (roll cage) and it's easy to find GT3 RS groups to race with, your GTR is road car, this is a track car and people have been racing GT3s for decades and no other car manufacturer other than Ferrari can claim to have as good a racing pedigree as Porsche... but the GTR is a great car and great value but it's just different, not better and not worse
It's all about the driving experience. Sure, there are cars with more horsepower, more comfort, more 'gadgets' but if it's a pure adrelinine rush you're after, I gotta say the 997 GT3RS is hard to beat!

The GT3s are the best Porsches in my opinion. While they don't have as much power as the Turbo and GT2, the GT3 is much more responsive with its high revving naturally aspirated motor. They are the best to drive.

This is bullshit. You can't compare 2 cars with a completely different driving approach. In the first round (carrera cup) the driver follows a strict racing line. In the 2nd round (rs) the driver is just fooling around (drifting).
Yeah, I agree it's a somewhat inappropriate comparison, but the idea is a sort of "stock for stock" comparison, to inform the consumer how the stock car performs against the race car. Nobody expects it to post identical times to a stripped out race car. Also consider that the RS runs on Pilot Sport Cups, which are about as close to road-legal slicks as you can get.

Listen i been around racing my whole life, dirt bikes not cars, and i don't give a shit how good a local pro rider is at his local track even on his best day cause if a rider like Ricky Carmichael or James Stewart shows up they will utterly destroy a local pro even if he has been riding that same track since he was five years old.
Getting a drive in F1 is who you know and do you have an image that can be sold to the pubic and the sponsors.

Your point is valid - and these days much of it is about commercial aspects. But you only need to look at Robert Kubica to see that its not ALL commercial. The cream always rises to the top.
I agree there are drivers out there who have deserved an F1 drive more than others who have got them, but the top five drivers in F1 are without doubt the best in the world.
Your point about local pros is not always true. I beat Coulthard in karting at MY track in 95. But am I better than him? No way.
I do whole heartily agree that F1 drivers are the cream of the crop, and the car used by Top Gear for their lap board is not a bench mark to gauge a drivers true speed.

You cannot say Tiff cannot drive, he is ex-Touring Cars, Le Mans and I think he may have even had a couple of races in F1. He can drive, but he has also had his fair share of crashes. Both He and Vicky Butler "Hendershag" used to be part of the Top Gear team in the days prior to Hammond and May! They were then dropped and 5th Gear was started on Channel 5 in the UK.
i'd take Jeremy Clarkson's mouth over Tiff's driving since this is a Car Tv show. Clarkson may be hideously biased at times (hating my beloved Porsches for his Ferrari's) but he makes very good analogies for every car description. Tiff sure knows how to drive but the simple reason why Top Gear is a more entertaining show is because of the personalities of Clarkson, Hamster and that third guy. They all blend very well. 5th Gear is a bit bland but very fun to watch from a driver's standpoint.

no that is not true, both GT2 and GT3RS run on semi-slicks, with on the inner side of the tyre normal profile and on the outer side slick profile

Thats a pathetic comment. Stig spends his life driving around that aerodrome, and yet Lewis Hamilton was only a few tenths off his fastest ever time on his first go and a wet track!! Ben Collins (stig) is a professional racer and is very good, but he's nowhere near the F1 level. When Lewis comes back in the summer he'll smash the record time.

Listen i been around racing my whole life, dirt bikes not cars, and i don't give a shit how good a local pro rider is at his local track even on his best day cause if a rider like Ricky Carmichael or James Stewart shows up they will utterly destroy a local pro even if he has been riding that same track since he was five years old.
Getting a drive in F1 is who you know and do you have an image that can be sold to the pubic and the sponsors.
Raw speed is way down the list.

Clearly The Stig can put in a lap time to match the best of them, but when you never say anything or even take your helmet off its hard to get Ferrari to sponsor you. :P

Your point is valid - and these days much of it is about commercial aspects. But you only need to look at Robert Kubica to see that its not ALL commercial. The cream always rises to the top.
I agree there are drivers out there who have deserved an F1 drive more than others who have got them, but the top five drivers in F1 are without doubt the best in the world.
Your point about local pros is not always true. I beat Coulthard in karting at MY track in 95. But am I better than him? No way.

I do whole heartily agree that F1 drivers are the cream of the crop, and the car used by Top Gear for their lap board is not a bench mark to gauge a drivers true speed.
Its just fun to play into the myth that The Stig is (to steal a quote from Richard Hammond) The Driving God.
I have nothing but respect for Lewis Hamilton and he is the whole package a driver needs to be, but i also feel that drivers in F1 have to be many thing more then just the fastest guy for one lap to get into F1.

topgear is a better programme with better presenters- but fifth gear has better drivers by miles.
Jason is one of the best touring car racers around.
Tiff was excellent at le mans
and vicki is the youngest instructor at any of britains racetracks.

gt3 is a good thing 2 buy when you r fed up with turbo and still don't want 2 give too much for the gt2.not recommend it for beginners.....only for previous porsche owners...

Yes Clarkson is more fun, Tiff a superior driver, that's why the 'old' BBC program was great until it got cancelled. Tiff signed w/Fifth-Gear (ITV?) and Clarkson stayed w/BBC when Ford refunded the show

You cannot say Tiff cannot drive, he is ex-Touring Cars, Le Mans and I think he may have even had a couple of races in F1. He can drive, but he has also had his fair share of crashes. Both He and Vicky Butler "Hendershag" used to be part of the Top Gear team in the days prior to Hammond and May! They were then dropped and 5th Gear was started on Channel 5 in the UK.

i'd take Jeremy Clarkson's mouth over Tiff's driving since this is a Car Tv show. Clarkson may be hideously biased at times (hating my beloved Porsches for his Ferrari's) but he makes very good analogies for every car description. Tiff sure knows how to drive but the simple reason why Top Gear is a more entertaining show is because of the personalities of Clarkson, Hamster and that third guy. They all blend very well. 5th Gear is a bit bland but very fun to watch from a driver's standpoint.
