@tinytuco do you know what it means to not know what you are talking about? hmm... SandT does not, let me repeat, does not promote a reverse pivot and since you don't know what it means, I'll enlighten you. SandT does not teach this.Do some players incorrectly rp when doing sandt, yes but rp's were around before sandt. Calling people idiots, using all caps, a little childish, hmmm?

@tinytuco please enlighten us on which swing all those top rated pros out of the uk are using. Just because you capitalize your words don't make them true, it makes you look like a child. The only "FACT" is you still don't understand what a reverse pivot is. I would love to see some swing vids from you since you know more than Mike and Andy who work with pro golfers and my guess is you don't. Maybe it is that close minded thinking that lost you guys that big war back in the 1700's- end? plz
@tinytuco sandt is not a reverse pivot, you don't understand what an opinion is either? Clampit and endeth, give me a break on the grammar remark. You can only have an opinion on something if it is open to debate. By definition sandt is not a rp, since I've explained that and you still don't get it, should I call you a wanker, fish and chips, or some other stupid metaphor? You should also get your caps button checked out, it looks like it gets stuck alot or are you trying to be obnoxious?
@tinytuco It definitely is not a reverse pivot. A quote from their book: A reverse pivot, "means shifting to the front foot on the backswing and then to the back foot on the downswing…but on the way down no weight ever moves to the back foot. So while the first part of the swing may look like the start of a reverse pivot, the move from the top is an aggressive forward shift. There's nothing reverse about that."
@rawtella The truth is...no one has defined exactly what a reverse pivot IS. There is no universal glossary. I can write a book and claim to know exactly what it is too. The truth is there has been no exact consensus. I do know that a target-leaning spine is a hell of a good start...
@tinytuco as for "used by the minimum of professionals", did you know that may great golfer's including Hogan, Nicklaus, Norman, all used variations of this swing before it was coined as "stack and tilt"?
All I know is that Baddely and Weir have both gone back to their old coaches in an effort to recapture the dynamics of their swing. I agree w/ jtjorger. s&t is a band aid for players who a) have too much lateral movement off the ball and b) for players who get too 'inside - out'. As a 'feeling' for those players, s&t probably helps tame those faults, but over time, it looks, to me that the mechanics of s&t become 'overdone' and the swing gets too narrow and loses its dynamics. just my opinion
as has been pointed out in this thread, no swing 'method' works for everyone and every swing correction can be taken to an extreme that just moves the player into another series of faults. Find the swing that works for you. document that swing with video and a diary of notes when you're playing really well, and re-teach yourself that swing when things start to break down. I believe 'Bagger Vance' told us to find our 'one, true, authentic swing'. Pretty good advice from a ficticious caddy.
check out ..HITMANHAWKY... vid on grip and release ..must see,,, the important part of the swing IMPACT.....use the LEFT HAND..the right hand will ruin you
As you turn the back leg straightens slightly but doesn't lock.
The biggest problem with S&T is the misconception about weight distribution. Without getting into all aspects, the reason you start with some weight on the front foot is so the pivot of the spine during the backswing redistributes pressure into the back leg.
At the top of the backswing both feet are "corkscrewed" into the ground (appr. equal weight on both) without a lateral hip sway away from the target...
Most people are starting with weight on the front foot and as they pivot during the back-swing, they are trying to keep it there. If this is attempted the weight on the front foot actually increases during the backs-wing resulting in one's center being too far in front of the ball causing too steep a descent.
This is why many complain about having a tough time hitting the driver or hitting it too low...
By letting the rotational process of the spine redistribute pressure on your feet during the back-swing from a say 70/30 favoring front foot at address, you will discover the golf swing feels free without you having to fight it any step of the way. No compensations. Most modern players today are either swinging this way or working towards it. Tiger included. Look at Dustin Johnson. of course look at Hogan.
Look at Jerry Barber from about sec.32-37 in this youtube video:
"Ben Hogan 1960 Masters"
Its in my favorites. You can plainly see he kept too much weight (increased it actually) on the front foot during the back-swing. His center was too far in front of the ball and he blew it right.
Its so obvious this is the biggest mistake people are making with S&T. There should be NO EFFORT TO STAY ON FRONT FOOT DURING THE BACK-SWING. PERIOD! Start there? YES. Keep your center steady? YES! Keep your weight on the left? NO!
Let the natural clockwise rotation of the spine (if you're RH) redistribute some pressure so you become one with the ground (weight on both feet at top (precisely...inside right heel, inside front metatarsalgia (ball of foot).
From here the moment you start the downswing you'll be back on the left side (through-swing pivot point) with a nice steady center for great consistent contact every time with proper trajectory.
@primer300 it depends on your comfort level, the right leg straightens (for RH swings) when your left knee flexes to open your hips to allow a more inside backswing. The sandt teachers don't lock their right knee but that doesn't seem to be a teaching point.
Seems to me the S&T method works if you have a sway in the weight shift or transfer, causing a balance issue at impact (loss of power). I think its worth a try if a player has this issue...
He wasnt swaying his weight rather he was twisting it by having the left arm move with the hips making it one unit which makes sense since power comes from the body not the arms
The S&T will work for some people, some it will not. There's no saying "it's crap" because it's only a golf swing. It has no personality, it's a way to get the ball into the hole.
mike weirs swing in this video wasnt even a stack and tilt. you could see his right foot come off the ground on his backswing... meaning no weight on it.
two things that have improved my game greatly, is for shots off the deck, dont focus on hitting just the ball, focus on the front section so you never hit it fat, and with drives and shots off the tee, imagine there is a brick wall rising from the ball so you want to keep your head behind it when coming down in the backswing, though two things have dropped my scores from 100 down to the high eighties
Agreed. If I lean left on the backswing I loose all my lag on the way down but if I make a pivot like tiger my divots are more consistent and the ball goes farther. Watch every person on youtube that does stack and tilt. They all hold no lag in the downswing.
You cannot compare yourself to Tiger boso, you're an idiot haha. Tiger does not swing one way all of the time, he has more dofferent shots than you have sense. If some PGA players are using the stack and tilt than it must be something to this swing technique. They get paid to play and you pay to play. Don't play yourself dude. Stack and tilt is the shit man.
Never compared myself to tiger. I am just saying if I turned around a fixed point in the middle of my shoulders (such as ex. tiger, hogan, byron, snead, nicklaus, palmer, trevino) I will not lean left. Ex of someone that does lean left and hits it well (couples, sergio, cant think of anymore at the moment). I do not believe in a method system. Some peeps need to lean left and some don't. Why teach the same thing to everyone? Someone answer me that question.
I think the most important thing to take from stack and tilt is to keep your weight 60/40 on your left side and NEVER put anymore weight on your back leg, only take away weight. So 60/40 at address, top of back swing 70/30. 80/20 parallel to the ground and 90/10 at impact. 95/5 at follow thru. Even if you dont want to stack and tilt at least try this weight transfer method and u will divot precisely in front of the ball consistently
not true.. well all true except for the precise divot thing.. if u release ur wrists to early u can still attack behind the ball.. maintaining wrist hinge helps get that precise divot
What is funny and not showen here is that Mike gave a side by side picture of both them at the top when gary was in his prime and won the masters he was more over his front foot than Mike was at the top of his swing. After he saw that Gary changed his tune, and asked for him to show him on the range what this was all about. The Mike beat Tiger.---Horses Mouth
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This swing method is setting back golf instruction back, when normal golfers do this 'method' they 'reverse pivot' on the backswing, then then fall backwards on the downswing n follow thru.resulting in golfers getting backache'. maybe this method is good for the likes of Baddeley n Weir who are talanted, but for the w/e golfer.
Not true. The there is scientific research and physics behind this swing technique and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to keep your weight on your left side especially after tilting and firing your hips to say on the left. If you pay attention and understand the mechanics behind the swing, you would never reverse-pivot - that's not even an issue.
On the contrary, my friend this golf swing will revolutionize golf instruction and make the game more enjoyable....The problem is that this swing goes against how teaching professionals are taught how to teach people a golf swing. Once this swing gains more popularity. You'll see a whole lot of golf pros start changing their tune about the S&T.
As a golf instructor Lyn has a good point...I have instructed many of my students both to and away from the stack and tilt. Its not for everyone...As seen by the tour players 95% of the players are young and fit. It is a much easier swing to repeat if you are in good shape. I am not saying this method dosent work because w/ irons and wedges its deadly (The driver eh not sold on yet)
we all understand that aaron baddley and mike weir both r VERY accomplished players and the stack and tilt somehow works for them but idk how, the swing is no weight trasfer and all slide i dont understand y on earth u would od it, the first time a beginner takes a lesson the coach immediatly makes them quit sliding and start turning so y these accomlished pros r going back to slide i will never no and btw NO ONE who is doing the stack and tilt have one since they've changed to it.jus a fun fact
actually thats not true villeges doesnt use the stack and tilt learn ur golf before u talk and yea i havnt won a masters and prolly never will but i still no a bad swing from a good one
quirospepe is a faggot.. weir makes millions each year and you're probably some weezy that lives in your parents basement who deep throats to pay rent,,
I in no way believe that stack and tilt is the best and simplest way to swing the golf club, however I do think that it is not a bad way to hit an iron shot. The problem is that there is no way that you can consistently hit a driver with this crap.
hey wanna not say that! hes frkn awesome and i know your just jelous that u dint win da masters in 2003 like he did so how bout u dont say that crap cuz its not true!
huh? Player was the team captain of the international squad during the president's cup. Weir made the international squad... he should be happy that his captain is talking to him? Mike Weir is a major winner and a PGA tour professional, not some 20 handicap duffer...
Great Thanks for sharing, I set Tivo up to record Baddeley's match against Tiger with hopes of seeing the swing from Tee to the green. Hopefully he can take to 18 holes.
This discussion actually went on for about 4 minutes but if you turn up loud or listen carefully; Mike says at sec.15-16 "you definitely don't want to do this" and then makes the gesture of tilting towards target... At sec.23 Gary makes a comment (hard to hear) and gestures about moving off the ball too much, which will cause a loss of resistance and too much looseness and hand action at top...
From about sec.26-33 Mike says he tilts as a drill just to feel what he really wants to do which is remain steady (because in the past he would have a tendency to move off the ball a little too much ). It was a great exchange and I only wish the microphone on the camera would of picked it up better.
What a beautiful fluid swing...

Mike Weir went away from the S&T because it hurt his game. He is back with his origional coach and a normal swing. S&T is a proven disaster.
Golf is hard enough without the S&T fad : >)

jakejohn72 2 years ago
Agreed. If I lean left on the backswing I loose all my lag on the way down but if I make a pivot like tiger my divots are more consistent and the ball goes farther. Watch every person on youtube that does stack and tilt. They all hold no lag in the downswing.
JimHalpert3 2 years ago
Then your doing it wrong, its not a snap its a random release.
ddahlquist 2 years ago
Youtube, Dana Dahlquist and Mike Mcnary. They stack and tilt yet have massive lag.
rgmmiller93 2 years ago
You cannot compare yourself to Tiger boso, you're an idiot haha. Tiger does not swing one way all of the time, he has more dofferent shots than you have sense. If some PGA players are using the stack and tilt than it must be something to this swing technique. They get paid to play and you pay to play. Don't play yourself dude. Stack and tilt is the shit man.
shannontheguy 2 years ago
I like your line about the "paid to play and pay to watch" ... good one~!!!
goonerdotcom 2 years ago
Never compared myself to tiger. I am just saying if I turned around a fixed point in the middle of my shoulders (such as ex. tiger, hogan, byron, snead, nicklaus, palmer, trevino) I will not lean left. Ex of someone that does lean left and hits it well (couples, sergio, cant think of anymore at the moment). I do not believe in a method system. Some peeps need to lean left and some don't. Why teach the same thing to everyone? Someone answer me that question.

That's a great video

I only wish I'd learned this swing much earlier. it's simple and effective.

Even if you dont want to stack and tilt at least try this weight transfer method and u will divot precisely in front of the ball consistently
mrserv0n18 3 years ago
not true.. well all true except for the precise divot thing.. if u release ur wrists to early u can still attack behind the ball.. maintaining wrist hinge helps get that precise divot

This swing method is setting back golf instruction back, when normal golfers do this 'method' they 'reverse pivot' on the backswing, then then fall backwards on the downswing n follow thru.resulting in golfers getting backache'. maybe this method is good for the likes of Baddeley n Weir who are talanted, but for the w/e golfer.
lyn8027 3 years ago
Not true. The there is scientific research and physics behind this swing technique and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to keep your weight on your left side especially after tilting and firing your hips to say on the left. If you pay attention and understand the mechanics behind the swing, you would never reverse-pivot - that's not even an issue.
reggietodd 3 years ago 2
On the contrary, my friend this golf swing will revolutionize golf instruction and make the game more enjoyable....The problem is that this swing goes against how teaching professionals are taught how to teach people a golf swing. Once this swing gains more popularity. You'll see a whole lot of golf pros start changing their tune about the S&T.
brown547 3 years ago
As a golf instructor Lyn has a good point...I have instructed many of my students both to and away from the stack and tilt. Its not for everyone...As seen by the tour players 95% of the players are young and fit. It is a much easier swing to repeat if you are in good shape. I am not saying this method dosent work because w/ irons and wedges its deadly (The driver eh not sold on yet)

we all understand that aaron baddley and mike weir both r VERY accomplished players and the stack and tilt somehow works for them but idk how, the swing is no weight trasfer and all slide i dont understand y on earth u would od it, the first time a beginner takes a lesson the coach immediatly makes them quit sliding and start turning so y these accomlished pros r going back to slide i will never no and btw NO ONE who is doing the stack and tilt have one since they've changed to it.jus a fun fact

quirospepe is a faggot.. weir makes millions each year and you're probably some weezy that lives in your parents basement who deep throats to pay rent,,
mpb999 3 years ago
I in no way believe that stack and tilt is the best and simplest way to swing the golf club, however I do think that it is not a bad way to hit an iron shot. The problem is that there is no way that you can consistently hit a driver with this crap.
buttshit007 3 years ago
This swing really works. Do try it.

mike wier could still kick your butt
jnilsoj 3 years ago
weir is a fag, stack and tilt will ruin your fundamentals, probably hitting more fat shots and blocks than pure irons
rrodrig4 3 years ago
If you're a bad golfer you might do that. Which you probably are, which is why you think others will do it.

quirospepe is a fucking dumbass

Judging by your gay language I assume you're probably Canadian, just as pussy Weir. Again, stack ad tilt is for losers and pussies.

Mike Weir has won 8 times on the PGA tour. he is an accomplished golfer.
GolfCrAzY1533 3 years ago 2
huh? Player was the team captain of the international squad during the president's cup. Weir made the international squad... he should be happy that his captain is talking to him? Mike Weir is a major winner and a PGA tour professional, not some 20 handicap duffer...

hey remember that in golf the style is not important, is the result,,

Thanks for the video, I notice Weir takes the club around his shoulder on the follow through which from the GD article your not suppose to do.

just copy charlie wi's golf swing, its the best for stack and tilt

Great Thanks for sharing, I set Tivo up to record Baddeley's match against Tiger with hopes of seeing the swing from Tee to the green. Hopefully he can take to 18 holes.

be nice to hear what was said.

This discussion actually went on for about 4 minutes but if you turn up loud or listen carefully; Mike says at sec.15-16 "you definitely don't want to do this" and then makes the gesture of tilting towards target... At sec.23 Gary makes a comment (hard to hear) and gestures about moving off the ball too much, which will cause a loss of resistance and too much looseness and hand action at top...
hogansking 4 years ago
From about sec.26-33 Mike says he tilts as a drill just to feel what he really wants to do which is remain steady (because in the past he would have a tendency to move off the ball a little too much ). It was a great exchange and I only wish the microphone on the camera would of picked it up better.

thanks for that.
