  • @VincentX202 What? If I RAID 0 some SSD's TRIM support goes away? I was really planning on RAID'ing 2x 128GB SSD's because the OS install is like 150GB with games/photoshop/programs/etc. + it's like $100 cheaper than buying 1x 256GB SSD.

  • @lifeisgood070 yep all SSD's with sandforce controllers which have "TRIM" the feature that keeps the device running optimal forever, disabling it will cause degration fairly quickly, i'm talking like a week's time depending on what you're doing.

and how is your OS 150gb? i have Win Ultx64 with all my programs as well using 30GB max. oh, games... um i highly suggest keeping "OS" isolated from all your important data such as music, video, games.

  • @VincentX202 this prevents problems and not only do i recommend this for SSd's but HD's as well.

you basically want your SSD to handle your operating system and programs, like any other good partitioning setup some ppl may be used to.

simple. get an ssd ->install your os, programgs #2 get a secondary slave drive for your data and games, everyone does it like this

  • @VincentX202 I'm guessing you keep paging file on that drive also? What do you do to keep all your programs/games off of the drive? Just manually change the install directory? or is there a faster "auto" swap? Like you can do with "my documents."

Can't wait until TRIM works in RAID.

  • @lifeisgood070 no. i have every program on the SSD within the OS Photoshop, Sony Vegas, etc.

because you want every application to benefit from the low latency launch time.

i do not classify games and programs and always install them on one of my slave drives because they take big space and in reality gaming requires high performance graphics above all else. if you do online gaming. having a game on an ssd wont make that much of a difference

  • @VincentX202 because online games only load once, and once they're loaded, it's up to your connection quality/ping & graphics card to do the job

  • How does this compare to 2 x 7200rpm HDD's in RAID 0?

  • Dont click them all lol.

    Just hold alt+f4

  • Nice... but not HOT

    My tirst step in 03/2011: A OCZ Drive2Quad ;-))

  • @VincentX202 I know SSDs are faster, just didnt get the point of running the same app a trillion times. thought maybe firefox is idiotic enough to overload I/O each time

  • would this be good for screen casting i have a 4850 1gb and a quad core and 8 gigs of ram, will the ssd help?

  • @richmeister4eva it depends on what you want from it?

new ssd's have the lowest latency and seek times, however their not optimal for large file storage or uncompressed video

if you want a faster OS drive than you want an ssd

  • is it faster to have 3 or 4 hdd and put them in raid 0 or to have a single ssd?

  • @liam666cob single sdd will beat raid 0 setup in terms of latency hands down, it's high performance flash memory after all

but in terms of space and price? that's up to you

  • @VincentX202 yeh but the thing is it would cost the same to buy 3 more 500gb hdd plus the one i have already as a kingston 64 gb ssd would. so what would you recomend?

  • @liam666cob firstly, it depends on what you want, but i would not recommend a raid 0 with 3 drives especially 500gb models

raid 0 will give you sustained datat rates for transferring files, while an SSD will have lower access times no matter what you're doing

btw what model is your kingston ssd, do you know if it has the new sandforce controller?

  • @VincentX202 i'm looking at a kingston sv100s2/64G for $125AU. does it have the sandforce controller? what is it?

  • @liam666cob it's using a jmicron controller iinm

  • can u explain in steps how to raid the ssd vertex 2? i have asus motherboard... is the same as the raid of hd? raid selection from bios/creation-striping selection from bios rom/ windows 7 installation-customdrivers from intel for raid?????

can u confirm? do i need anything from ocz site? or simply to disable w7 defrag, pagefile, search index?

    ty at advance

  • @strikeagle100 well if you're m/b has an intel chipset, go to intel storage drivers or dl from them from asus...install them during installation

however i must warn you that putting sdd's in raid will disable trim, causing the drive to degrade performance significantly in a matter of days

you can leave page file just disable defrag, index

  • @VincentX202 hmmmm... maybe i will go for a single vertex 2 60 gb (now price in Greece is 109€).... i want trim... i believe i am gonna have a lot better perfomance than the 2 green caviar@raid allready have.. (watch?v=ygTEi67PH4k), (watch?v=ER45Tvq5SBo)...????

  • @strikeagle100 yeah go for it man, they're fast, and you could always have your other drives in a raid as backup or games

  • @strikeagle100 though you could run tools on a daily basis to make up for trim

    garbage collection and wiper

  • Hey what is the software that you're capturing the screen?

  • i that done right after finishing booting, before loading nothing else?

  • @authmaax yeah right after booting

  • i will love to see the performance using adobe After effects, premiere or cinema 4D etc.. im getting the 30 or 60 gb :D super fasstt

  • Hey Amazing background! Where did you get it?

  • @danpluso InterfaceLIFT com

  • @VincentX202 Thanks. And nice video! I am planning on getting the 60GB Vertex 2 very soon.

  • @danpluso go for it, you wont regret the performance
