@kivagirl03 some sort of gaited horse cross. Previous owners said he was a Tennessee Walker cross, so that may be likely. He is EXtremely gaited though naturally. You can see his funny fast walk pace in the video.
:) thanks! I miss him... i had to give him to my cousin when i started graduate school... i did keep my arabian though... just didnt have time for both!
he's actually some sort of tennesee walker cross.. you can tell he's gaited at some points in the video..
You can apply grease, like lard or something, to the horse's hooves underneath to help stop the snow balling up. It will ball up in their feet if they're out in the snow even without a rider.
when cantering circles and small ones like you did try doing tiny little half halts on the outside rein it sound bring his back legs underneath him more making it easier for him to get round the bend and for you tew sit tew =) xxx but you look great and your horse is aboslutly gorgeous!
He is gorgeous, what breed is he? I love it when people get out in the winter and ride, especially when the horses are all hyper, makes things more challenging and fun!
thanks! he's a tennessee walker cross.. we think he is crossed with either draft or morgan, not sure. i actually have a lot of fun riding in the winter; its cool! :)
gorgeous horse! is it slippery at all to ride in snow??? I wanna ride my horse really bad and the arena is covered in a blanket of snow and I wasn't sure if it was safe or not...
id say yea its okay to ride in snow.. there are differing opinions though.. my vet has also said that it is okay. just as long as its not icy.. i think if its just snowy and you have a well balanced horse its fine.. i would never be able to ride like this on my arab/pinto; he has poor balance and is more likely to slip.. so i think its all about knowing your horse and what he/she tolerates/can handle. THANKS FOR THE COMMENT :)
I ride my horses in the snow all the time. I have a gelding that had a knee injury as a foal and sometimes stumbles in the dirt but in the snow he is just fine. We can gallop across the fields in a foot of snow and have no problems. If it rained or melted before it snowed stay off pavement but the dirt or sand in arenas make it safe. We just continue our regular routines as always.
nice horse but just watch that you dont pull his head in too much, because you temd to overbend, especially with a bit as strong as yours, but i think it could just be because the circles were sooo tight. please watch my videos, rate and comment thanks xx
yeah, i know thats is a problem (the head bending...) i got him from some people who didnt treat him right...they used to just run him on trails constantly cuz "he's real fast"...it took me FOREVER to get him to slow down doing anything, now he needs a ton of pressure to take it easy..i HATE it..ive tried other bits and he is unresponsive, making it dangerous for both me and him, any suggestions, would love to hear!! :)
but he is alot better now, and he doesnt always need as much pressure, so he is coming along, in fact sometimes he does need any, but he gets excited pretty easily, especially if i run him (he keeps pulling after i ask him to slow). i think as we continue he will get better..idk, but like i said, any suggestions would be appreciated...
I dont know...i have asked alot of people if it is okay to ride in the snow and everyone says yea..i clean out the feet before and after riding..also he doesnt have shoes on in the winter, so it doesnt stick to them as easily...?
...if we are going on the basis that a horse will slip while being ridden and hurt him/herself then i dont really think people should be racing horses or show jumping..both of those sports are dangerous for the horse and rider. Just look at this past weekend... : (
i was just saying bec there may be ice or somthing like that, i am not being mean or eneything it just looks like the horse is have a heard time in that small area. you are a GOOD!!! ride i am just making a comment.
hey there...thanks for the comment. Not many people have commented yet. I know. the area's small..unfortunately I dont have an arena/round pen...i usually just trail ride, but it's difficult to do that in the winter... :( so i decided to try circles with him instead.
oh yeah and i forgot to say...if you watch in the second part, you can see him slipping. :( I even asked my sister at that point if he was bucking or something cuz i could feel his feet coming up in the back. i wish i had better facilities.
Very willing horse, nicely trained. Pretty hard on him to canter such tight circles, especially in slippery footing--he is well balanced. Is he part Paso Fino or something gaited?
Yes! he is part Tennessee Walker Horse...good eye. Yes, he is very well balanced...I could never do this on my Arabian/Pinto. He would be all over the place.
Why didn't you let him take a poop break?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I know that you shouldn't ride in the snow cos it gets stuck to the horses hooves but you were great!
