Awesome lyrics for someone of her age. A true innovator and sadly underrated. When they go on about the fact that George Michael wrote Careless Whisper at 16 they don't give great stuff like this credit.
Great vibe on this vid...except for the lame ass interviews that foul up the proceedings - let the music and lyrics speak for themselves. Poly Styrene was/is a brilliant writer.
I saw x ray spex at the hope and anchor but it wasn't this gig it was the one from the punk in London dvd. They were one of my favourite bands at the time and I was lucky enough to see them 5 or 6 times. I would say they did a lot more than 30 gigs. Probably more like 3 times that as they toured around the country. They reformed to play Brixton Academy about 10 years ago and I was there too. Not quite the same though. I think the guitarist died of cancer about 3 years ago.
As hard as it is to believe, X-Ray Spex only ever played about 30 gigs. Just like punk itself, sadly, X-Ray Spex arrived and left far too soon for many of us.

Nice one mate. Poly was the best and most under-rated writer of her age. Fantastic band and in my view what Punk really was all about...
