Sexual repression and master control of desires and wishes come to a absolutely masterful piece of visual depth and detail. A treat and a tour de force!
The look on her face has haunted me ever since seeing this (at the time) disturbing film....just the most wonderful physical expression of emotional pain, coming to the surface for a brief moment and then being suppressed again, probably for good.
I actually haven't seen anything so moving and touching. And I got Jelinek's book just because I wanted to see how this scene would look on a paper. Without Hupert, it's nothing.
Like when she cut her pussy lips earlier in the movie, the sexual repression led her to masochism and self mutilation. So combine that with the rape and beating she received and guilt she must have felt when she saw Anna before the performance must have drove her to that.
@TheDepressed100 It's like she wasn't planning to play at that concert after all and she wanted somebody probably that guy to come and find out where she was....
Pauvre femme.

It's like her soul is leaking out of her face. I love Isabelle Huppert.
