@7150285 why for a couple hundred bucks invested in a stock truck you can keep up with mustangs with just programming. a few thousand and your beating vetts.
what taduckwall30 means is that it was thought up and minorly produced ny isuzu and it continued production until GM merged with isuzu to get the blueprints of the duramax to replace the 6.5 that was last in the diesel class at the time compared the 7.3 and the 24 valve 5.9. they came out with the duramax in 01 and were the class leader
Quick but not hard to roast those little stock tires. Definitely faster than my Cummins with just a programmer though! D-Max's respond so well to tuning.
Its not A stock Dmax with a programmer on it...just FYI. You better watch it that allison is tough but not that tough you will shred that thing in no time!
@jerrodstierwalt i know a d bag that got a bunch of money from sueing a insurance company he boughta 03 duramax with a efi livewire and has put two tranny's in it took out overdrive both times hes had it like three months
the ppe hot+2 can add up to 350 rear wheel horsepower. a truck running 650 horse will definately need a trans upgrade. truthfully, any truck with a tune over about 80-100 hp over stock will need transmission work...
power strookes are shit cummins are the best engine but there trucks are shit and duramax is asome the engine and the truck i have one that is a 2002 with 350,00 km on it duramax all the way powerstroke is shit lol
the only diesel that ford put in a truck that was worth while was the 7.3 "Navistar" 6.0 6.4."flame-thrower" and 6.9 were all POS. The Duramax is a pretty stout motor. Not to mention the D-max was originally built in the 80 so they have most of the kinks worked out with it. How exactly does the duramax suck. ass? I own 2 and they have yet to fail me yet.
@taduckwall30 I'm a cummins man myself, love the Dmaxes, they sound good and what not but i haven't seen them go 400k+ like my cummins has.
But when you said the 6.9 sucks, you talking about the 6.9 IDI back in the 80's? the 7.3 IDI was the same thing..the 7.3 was just a stroked 6.9. Not sure if hte 6.9 got a bad rep with you or what but they sound neat when they're running and are good conversation starters :)
@91CTD my uncle owns a garage called Phipps and Son here and a guy that he does semi truck work for has a 04 dmax with 450k miles... all stock ill take a picture or video or something next time im down there
@taduckwall30 The 6.9, 7.3, and 6.4 are great motors. I have had trucks with all 3 that have had zero problems, and have from 230,000 to 375,000 miles on them. Our we though the Duramax would finally be a Chevy Diesel we could trust, but we were wrong(the 6.2, and 6.5 were underpopulated, pieces of garbage). I would like to know where you got the Duramax being built in the 80s from, because they share nothing with any other GM diesel.
@orbitofdoom16 isuzu has always made the d-max they have a 3.0 v6 and 2.5 4 cylinder engine in every country but ours, and the trucks look like a colorado but with an isuzu badge on it. isuzuz has always had a d-max
@tacodude20 No, the 4 Cylinder Izuzu engines are not even similar to the 6.6 Duramax. There is an inline 6 re-badged as a Duramax, but for the most part, it was a brand new motor developed in the late 90s
@orbitofdoom16 hello, where was i comparing the engines? i wasnt, and i dont know what your thinking but the 3.0 is a v6 while the 2.5 is a 4 cylinder, and its not rebadged by anymeans, these are D-MAX engines these were the base designs for the 6.6 Duramax!
@tacodude20 When was I comparing them? Are you seeing ghost words? The D-Max their line of trucks is a line of trucks, not the engines that go in them. The Isuzu 6H is an inline-6 cylinder Diesel engine installed in Isuzu medium-duty trucks, and also installed in GM medium-duty trucks as the Duramax LG4. It is mated to the Allison 2500, 3000 and 3500 Series transmissions(Citation, GM Commercial Truck website). The 3.0 and 2.5 both i4s, and both current versions are newer, and the older versions-
@tacodude20 predated the Duramax by 10 years, neither of which shares any similarity to the Duramax. DMAX was the joint venture company formed by Chevy and Isuzu to create an ALL new medium duty truck engine. The overall design is very similar to the Detroit developed 6.5, but modernized with entirely new construction materials and a super high tec fuel delivery system(Preview from an Issue of Truck trend from 2001
