  • Learn ipa laa. Many hk teacher dont know this but it is the useful method

  • This guy needs ESL! Don't enforce yourself to be a native English speaker, as English mixed with different kind of languages. As Queen Elizabeth II is the perfect speaker!

  • @Mitzi987 actually, y u gotta judge this kind of friendly sharing??

maybe u think having the correct accent is not important to u, but not all of others think of the same way as you!!

how come u did judge him??

what u have said is really ridiculous!!

但係你能在"經典"港式英語中分別man, men, beach, bitch, win 與 wind 嗎?

    Btw, thx 4 sharing~ =]

    KARMA

  • @tasmafist

    KARMA

  • YOU SOUND LIKE 方大同!

  • I am rilly proud of mi chinese accent

  • @kopk888 I'm really sorry for you... you can't even spell properly.

  • @fishball2711 you are pathetic if you don't get sarcasm

  • @kopk888 first of all, i would like to apologize which you feel offended.

Here is my point of opinion. "accent" should be regional. it is talking about the people from certain place where with certain cultural background and history. the regional native oral language for sure should be take into account.

however, the clip here is talking about "improper" way of speaking english. please take note of it.

  • peter chao and mama chao r aewsome LOL

  • I like Peter Chao Accent

  • u r working hard mate...

  • @mickeyyeung0528 Wrong.

total thumbs up for the video!

    Where did you learn English?

  • very interesting

  • Comment removed

  • well Ive been living in USA for almost 6 years with no asian around. and one time, when I talked to an australian one time, he said that I sounded like an American. However, when I start a long conversation with an American, they can always tell that I have an accent after a period of time. so, i guess it's pretty dang hard to get rid of the accent of our natve language. Buttttt this video is pretty awesome tho, i like it. good work man.

  • Thx!

  • Wow....cool! excellent job!!

  • WOW good viedo

  • @siu82english

Well, I honestly think you speak with heavy "港式的英文口音". No offense, but I have to say you are not qualified to teach this topic at all.

  • @ShaqTheGreat356 well just watch other videos, i personally think he has minor hong kong accent trait over his british accent but definitely not at all heavy.

plus, the entire collection is for the people who struggled to understand the basics of speaking english.

frankly i think they are obvious. but not for everyone. just like 中文懶音. there are people out there who need his lessons.

overall what he did does not deserve and does not measure up to what you said about his 'heavy

  • @hiuwo I stand by my opinion. He has heavy Hong Kong accent but he's also trying to teach people how to do away with their Hong Kong accent. That's stupid if you ask me.

  • @ShaqTheGreat356 well ok. but not to mention he put time in it and tell people about the common mistakes of proper english. but yeh i respect your opinion then.

  • @hiuwo i think the bottotm line is the person you talk to understand what you are saying without scratching their head, guessing what you are talking about. most american don't care about the "authentic" or"genuine" pronunciation of each word .as long as what you are saying is interesting, they will listen.Am i right??

  • @liahma123 hmmm, maybe because they just dont care about genuine english? its rather as if like the rebellious hong kongers who dont care about whether to mix up with the actual pronunciation like 彌 as 微 or 尼. therefore i personally like british people more because they considerably know how to appreciate english and english literature.

yeh you are correct, but isnt that more perfect if you can pronounce like a pro? its just similar to a kind-hearted person with a presentable appearance.

  • thank you

  • well, y dont u use the guy saying ' we will 猜 our bReast' XD

  • I really appreciate your time & effort. I like the way that you teach, the step-by-step approach makes it very easy to understand. Keep up your good work!

    Thanks a lot!

I agree and would like to thank the original poster for taking the time to produce this.

I don't mind the quality though, the video did the job well and that's all I care.

  • very interesting...

  • i have an australian accent, how do i get rid of it and have some british instead

  • thankyou^^

  • AGREE

  • @yauhoyan220692 i really agree with u!!

i can never understand why there are some ppl gotta judge this kinda friendly sharing??

    that' really ridiculous!!

  • your voice is quite sexy actually

  • =) dats the problem to do with education from sku...actually I fully support the uploader to release more related videos, man u re doing great jobs!

  • very useful!!!加油 siu sir

  • cool

  • How do you come to the conclusion that I speak worse English than you? By the way I'm not attacking,I just hate the accent, not HK people.

  • imo they asian accent is very hard to loose unless you were brought overseas and surrounded by a lot of fluent english speakers

  • totally agree..theres nth to do with canto...

    its all abt environmental influence

  • When I was in high school in HK, my chinese teacher taught us how to memorize the six basic tones in Cantonese. That is:三碗細牛腩麵. lol

Regarding to the Cantonese accent , I think people just havent put enough effort into learning oral English. Im from HK and im so disappointed in HK's English-teaching method..yes, a lot of students can write perfect English, but they might not be able to say it right..Even the TEACHERS cant speak good English..sigh..

  • test

  • hey hi, siu, do you know any way i could cut out my american slang, while i speak cant....

  • Can you please give some details that how those 6 tones like? I really can not tell the differences. I understand Cantonese when in speech but just can not speak....keen to learn

  • lol. those mp's English. I dont understand a thing. however I know many Hongkongese speaks well English here in NZ.

  • there are 9 tones in Cantonese but English has 4s...and because of the difference in using intonation when speaking English but unfortunately HongKongers just practise the same way and even localize the way they speak English...that way, no ending sound and using a weird intonation to speak English

  • lol english is monotone. only mandarin contains 4 sounds. are you sure what english sound like ?

  • OMG those Canton accent are really wierd.

  • wow, you are good at both languages

  • solovampire... i would really love to reply. however, you comments are too stupid and are being removed =.=

Dude.... you don't need proper english to reply to posts. It is just comments afterall.

Grow up man. Are you just gonna go around and correct people, saying stuff like... "lol" is not a complete sentence? What a loser...

  • actually, he didnt teach how to get the speak like a Britain. disappointed

  • Like a British! you are kidding me.

  • definitely good stuff !

I also find this very helpful for Cantonese beginner XD

  • THX!

  • Frankly, it is very interesting to see so many comments. I enjoy reading it quite a bit. I personally speak 4 languages fluently and 2 others not so fluently. When I switch back to Cantonese and Mandarin in my language channel in my little brain - I was told I am speaking Englinese - too much English and French intonation and I feel embarrassed. I found accent is cute - as long as one can communicate and speak clearly. It really gives you some personality!

  • his voice is sexy =DDD

  • I'm actually learning cantonese from this video

  • Just be REAL and be yourself and stop trying TOO hard to impress others by speaking English like a native! If you are not a native that you are NOT! What is the problem? Speak with the accent you were born with, accept yourself !! It's so unattractive to be a phony!! You only live once and you are unique! Whatever accent you have be proud of it stop acting as a copy cat, keep your own style people! Stop being a follower!! Stand up for yourself don't try to act white!! RESPECT YOURSELF!!

  • it's his interest to speak more like a native speaker. What's wrong with trying to learn an accent that u like?

I do not know if you notice, but people will think that you are easier to approach if you speak like they do, or atleast similar. For the very least, it wouldn't kill their ears or brain, trying to decipher what you were saying.

  • Keep your stupid theory to yourself and try to say that when you are a non native and try to live in a world full of native people. See if they will think that it's cute to have an accent that is not familiar to them. So Excuse us who try to learn

  • Interesting. I think you need to come to Canada and help the new immigrants how to speak English with less accents. It is easier to find a job with less accents.

  • NOT NECESSARILY.

  • really? then I assume it is most unfortunate for me, since my english pronounciation cannot improve anywhere near the native level as far as I had tried for so many years.

  • WHY should anyone be ashamed of his/her own accent? People who laugh or pick on people's accents need to get a life! Lots of great people all over the world do not speak English at all,so you think you are better than them? So you think you are better than those politicians who you criticized here just because you think you speak better English than them? Oh get a life.

  • now there is one good example..

i will chai my breast to eh eh eh.... still chai my breast to eh eh eh.... not only criteesize the govunment but also make good sutgehssion to impoove the people's "livinghood"(should be livelyhood).

i am totally ashamed of the hk accent....

i am pretty sure i am better than gary chan (a hk politician). not to mention that it is obvious that he cheated on his master degree.

he doesn't even know how many representatives are in the legco council.. gg..

  • I think you got some problem

  • god. the way those councilmen speak is like combining different individual words together. their hesitation between words is so weird. It has no continuity, very similar to an infant trying to speak.

  • u gotta be joking! In general , everyone speaks foreign languages with an accent. As such, it's easy to tell by the way a person speaks eng whether he is fm mainland china or fm hk or frm other asian coutries. To say shanghai ppl speak eng with the slightest accent only indicates 2 things: 1. u r fm shanghai; or 2. u r not very observant

  • I wonder when you started to learn english...

  • good job!

  • siu sir, you are really good. you should teach some HK entertainers how to speak English properly. start with Andy Lau, his English is sooo bad. In a CD, he once said 'hey guy'. One time I saw him on TV and said 'the worstest' and pronounced 'Charity' as '車 la ti'.

  • lmfao, i dont speak cantonese accent since i watched disney chanel@@

  • Thanks Siu, I really appreciate your passion. You are really kind!

  • Quite interesting (considering that I actually teach Cantonese in Canada) -- you could have used 史 for tone #2 instead...

  • If you don't want to improve your English, why you come here? why you watched siu's video? I think 99% people here, learning English not because of wanting to become a Gwei Lo, you are just too lazy to learn more.

  • I don't think any wrong to learn better English, people just want to improve their languages. Many foreigners are learning Mandarin now, they speak even better than people in HK. Why Cantonese could not speak good English? This is not a nationality problem, it's a shame to look down others who want to get an improvement.

  • man i learned a lot about cantonese! lol

  • thx a lot ...I learnt so much

  • support and wait for part 2

  • GOOD
