I have a '99 durango with a superchip tuner and magnaflow exhaust and custom electric cooling fans (not much modding). i have the 5.9 but with 4x4 it weighs in at 6400lbs. it is pretty quick and mods are pretty cheap and it has around 420lb/tq and just over 300hp. drop the diff gearing and they fly. this guy must have headers heads cam? and better aspiration... after tuning, would cost just as much for the lightning as well.
The sad thing is that that POS Ford had to put a supercharger in order to make anything fast. Look at the Cobra, was a total POS until they installed what? a supercharger!!!. The lightning 5.4 with what? Of course a supercharger!!! Shelby? Supercharger!!! Thats why Fords are Shitty. Yea yea they didnt ask for a bailout, cause stupid chevy cant get their shit straight. With such Shitty interior Quality. But look at the statistics, Mostly Single Young Males buy ford... Why? Cause their dirt cheap!

@TBoss63 The 09 hemi durango has 380hp,and 404 ft lbs torque.I didn't realize I hit a 7 instead of an 8 last time I said 370. The 04's had 335hp,09's have 380 or 385hp,depending on if it's a hybrid or not.Mine had 380hp stock,before the cam,heads,exhaust and intake were changed.(Heads were not changed-,worked,and a thinner head gasket).
@peak199 Thats probably the hemi magnum you're talking about. IMO shitty powerplant. 2006 and up HEMI engines pump out at least 360 hp stock, and get decent mpg too :).
th 5.2L is a 318 and the 5.9 is a 360, those 360 engines are fucking awesome man i have a 2002 durango and its got the 4.7L in it thats like a 287!! i wish I had the 5.9 that would be amazing man durangos forever!!
You can make a Durango run like that for about 2k-3K in good mods but thats not with install.
The 5.2L or 5.9L has more mods than a Lightning cuz Dodge has been using that same type of engine for around 30 years
I had my truck into the 14's with about 1k in simple mods. Im sure if I dumped another 2k for gears, cams and new heads I could hang in there with any Lightning. Well any stock lightning Lol

You have a a good platform to start with in the R/T for the price of a good kit for our year (99" durango 318)its around 5,500-6,000 plus install trust me take 6,000 and build your truck.
new heads, intake, headers, pulleyes, shift kit, 4.11 gears, and a big cam you would run low 12's to high 11's with slicks. with a 100 shot you might hit the 10's all that for less than the price of a SC that might git you a low 13 to high 12's check my page all the dak's are n/a the durango is a 360 with a pro charger & alot of other mods. i'v only seen two other durangos faster than this one.
There should be know way that lightning lost. Hell I have an 01 escape with green cold air intake kenne bell supercharger and chipped and can run 1/4 in 10

Yeah my truck gets about 11 city and 16mpg highway.
When I use to street race I would burn a full tank or more every night.
Most people dont know it but durangos kinda get the same gas milage as a H2 lol
