White mansions was done by a British "American Civil War" re-enactment group soskan short for Southern Skirmishers association in the late seventies.
It tells the story of the war from a southern family and the Drifter (played by waylon) a great coo for them.
I actually know a couple who worked on the album and appeared in the photos in the booklet that came with the vynal album. I did many a show with them when I was a member of the A.C.W.S. from 1980 to 1986
A track from one of the all time great albums - White Mansions - along with its sister album - The Legend of Jesse James. The tragic story of the American Civil War told in verse. This track is typical of all the tracks on the album; Simply Brilliant! Enjoy and try to listen to more if you haven't already done so.
Great Album, White Mansions, real summary of the American Civil War in one music album, I always love listening to this the talent of the Artists is superb, and it has'nt aged a bit. Thanks for the Post benjim1069.
My Dads number 1 favourite. He recently passed away of cancer and we couldn't find his CD with this on it. This was the first hit from google search. Thanks for putting this on the net. Awsome
Love "White Mansions". The stories told give to much credence to the Yankee invaders by tying the crimes committed against the Southern people and the inalienable right of political independence, to the plight of the slaves. This is the phony justification the Republican Party under Lincoln latched on to to fool posterity into thinking that their cause was a "noble" one, rather than the old face of tyranny seeking wealth and power at the expense of others.
This song is about the war of the states, the waste war brings, but in 1863 the only honor was states rights and war.
Dying for a flag, for a hopeless belief, the Constitution was put to test and the Union prevailed; Indeed, but the destruction that was caused is evident even to this date.
god i was wondering if anyone out there knew of this, ive been trying to turn a 20 yr old co-worker on to em for months now, actually had a few songs on my cell phone
Waylon Jennings and Jessie Colter sang this song. It was from an album called, "White Mansions." It was kinda Civil War Rock Opera about various southern people living and dying through the war and the aftermath.
Great track from one of my favourite albums...Waylon at his best...all tracks written by Paul Kennerly....Legend of Jesse James, another classic album by Paul Kennerly.
THIS IS ONE OF THE SONGS I EVER HEARD. THANK U.
