  • THIS IS ONE OF THE SONGS I EVER HEARD. THANK U.

  • Waylon's guitar...gotta love it.

  • A beautiful song to come out of one of the saddest times in American history...WAYLON, a gifted voice like no other. Thank you.

  • There are times when animals have more brains than humans.

  • excellent thanks,

please could you ptu "join under the flag on youtube"

    many thnaks

  • A little history for you.

White mansions was done by a British "American Civil War" re-enactment group soskan short for Southern Skirmishers association in the late seventies.

It tells the story of the war from a southern family and the Drifter (played by waylon) a great coo for them.

I actually know a couple who worked on the album and appeared in the photos in the booklet that came with the vynal album. I did many a show with them when I was a member of the A.C.W.S. from 1980 to 1986

  • british civil war like cavaliers and guys who wanted parliment or us civil war like butternut and blue lee and meade, buckner and grant

  • Been trying to remember this song title for months now thanks to you I have now found it My brother in law used to sing it.

  • A track from one of the all time great albums - White Mansions - along with its sister album - The Legend of Jesse James. The tragic story of the American Civil War told in verse. This track is typical of all the tracks on the album; Simply Brilliant! Enjoy and try to listen to more if you haven't already done so.

  • hi great song thanks for posting but can you tell me the name of the tune thats done on a penny whistle on this album thanks again DAZ

  • Great Album, White Mansions, real summary of the American Civil War in one music album, I always love listening to this the talent of the Artists is superb, and it has'nt aged a bit. Thanks for the Post benjim1069.

    Thanks again.... :~)

  • Excellent song and sentiment.

  • Thanks for posting a song from one of my favorite albums of all time

  • One of the best .... Seen Waylon in concert in Australia several years ago. Will always be one of my favourites.

  • My Dads number 1 favourite. He recently passed away of cancer and we couldn't find his CD with this on it. This was the first hit from google search. Thanks for putting this on the net. Awsome

  • Love "White Mansions". The stories told give to much credence to the Yankee invaders by tying the crimes committed against the Southern people and the inalienable right of political independence, to the plight of the slaves. This is the phony justification the Republican Party under Lincoln latched on to to fool posterity into thinking that their cause was a "noble" one, rather than the old face of tyranny seeking wealth and power at the expense of others.

    God Save the Save.

  • This song is about the war of the states, the waste war brings, but in 1863 the only honor was states rights and war.

Dying for a flag, for a hopeless belief, the Constitution was put to test and the Union prevailed; Indeed, but the destruction that was caused is evident even to this date.

  • Since I first heard this albums music 20 odd years ago the songs have has haunted me for years, brilliant, evocative and vastly underated.

  • heard this album about 20 years ago still great

  • Waylon Jennings and Jessie Colter sang this song. It was from an album called, "White Mansions." It was kinda Civil War Rock Opera about various southern people living and dying through the war and the aftermath.

  • Never heard this before. Who sings it and what year? Thumbs up!

  • I have this on cd and haven't listened to it yet. This makes me want to find it and listen. Thanks

  • I have the album on c d. it is excellent. my favorite is the last dance and the kentucky race horse.

  • had this album on vinyl have not heard it in a while still sounds good

  • yea me too, just pulled the album down from the net. It sound as good now as it did then

  • Great track from one of my favourite albums...Waylon at his best...all tracks written by Paul Kennerly....Legend of Jesse James, another classic album by Paul Kennerly.

  • I ended up buying the double CD. The Jesse James one is as good as White Mansion.

  • Can't fault the JJ album apart from the gunshot,it sounds like a kiddies toy gun.
