My step-dad uses a stock one as a drive-to-work-vehicle. He drives over 100 miles a day so he needed something good on gas. It now has over 215,000 miles on it. Stock they only have 100 HP, but they have 114 lb. ft. of torque so it feels pretty peppy.

@ritmotraveler Mine only has 108 thousand, almost 109, and I just recently had to replace my brake pads also. And the rear drums are at 50%. But other than that, I've had absolutely no problems. They're great cars! :D

the dohc motor first showed up in geo storms and that car was fairly quick BUT... the engine is a design of a dohc honda motor only in 2002 or 3 did chevy fuck everything up and put that gay ecotec motor in them and the red line is just as slo as a cobalt ss

my 1997 SC2 beat a stock 98 (or 99) V6 mustang, 99 tourus with the 3.0, civic 1.6 vtech... this was jsut a race to about 110km/h with my buddies and just for fun. but i cant complain for a cheap car that is pretty amazing on gas

Its called the RPM governer, built in to the Majority of the Saturns are equiped with them and all you have to do is find a way to remove it. Im trying to remove mine but it cost a bit of money which i dont have, and saturns run nice even if you redline, Probaly runs a intercooler in the car though.

i got a 99 SC2 its automatic which sucks, but try doing a new cold air intake, wires/plugs (Bosch iridiums work well), coil packs, and a header, all of which are pretty easy to change out. I did all of those plus struts/sways, the thing runs great

I have a 96 SL2 (with cat back and I opened up the restricted intake) that will smoke your car I know for a fact cus you showed your time slip and mine has 212K miles on it. I haven't spent a lot of time trying to make it fast and dogging it out at the strip every weekend like you!!!

The best the saturn could hope for far a major power gain is from a small turbo addition. As well as a shift kit and improved gearing on the axel.
Only worth a low buck build unless your willing to put out the big smackers.
If in that case:
-Forged pistons at 8.5:1
-Headers that are as small yet free flowing
-A small turbo tuned to amplify power in the low end
-If possible, custom grind a set of cams
-ignore stupid body kits,large rims(includes spoilers)
-invest in a set of good rubber.

my 1997 SC2 beat a stock 98 (or 99) V6 mustang, 99 tourus with the 3.0, civic 1.6 vtech... this was jsut a race to about 110km/h with my buddies and just for fun. but i cant complain for a cheap car that is pretty amazing on gas
people laugh at saturn but it ends up out performing a lot of cars on the road

like hes going past the start of the redline in 1st and 2nd... does he have any mods and stuff in this car to help it be able to do that without possibly blowing up or overheating or anything along those lines.
seems like it is still running good and the rev limiter wasn't kicking in was it...

Its called the RPM governer, built in to the Majority of the Saturns are equiped with them and all you have to do is find a way to remove it. Im trying to remove mine but it cost a bit of money which i dont have, and saturns run nice even if you redline, Probaly runs a intercooler in the car though.

nahhh man its how the car is, i have a saturn sl2 4 door 1996 and it was stock with a preformance button which what it does is for autos only is rev ur RPS up for you and its basically made for like getting on the interstate or something u need speed for but its also like a built in stock turbo its pretty tite!!

before my wifes 93 sw2 blew up (its a saturn, duh) I ran it at the local track just to see how pathetic it was... 10.38 seconds stock and slower than an s-10 extreme by a good bit, but still faster than yours, lol. What's 3rg gear?

i got a 99 SC2 its automatic which sucks, but try doing a new cold air intake, wires/plugs (Bosch iridiums work well), coil packs, and a header, all of which are pretty easy to change out. I did all of those plus struts/sways, the thing runs great

the scariest part about any of this...is that someone will watch this and go WOAH MAN, AWESOME CAR.
I am not one to care about speed, so I don't care about that part, but cosmetically, it looks horrible.
I can say though, thats great about the mileage, thats one thing about those cars that is good. Its just a simple, efficient, reliable car. Thats it.
Glad you enjoy it as much as you seem to.
But on a side note...there are no bragging rights in beating an ecotec cavalier.
