  • lol lime wire

  • EXACTLY!!! Clone the hard drive is the ONLY way to go!!!! Why does everyone have backup programs and think they are safe... THANKS for this! I think the reading and stuff is a little hard to get through... slow for my taste, but thanks, anyway!

  • the background music is awesome!!!

  • Dave,

Where can one purchase a copy of Copy Commander?

  • so much reading!

  • I have a labtop with no floppy and now CD-RAM. Any other way to clone this? like let say a external harddrive or a flash drive?

  • Don't say who uses Floppy Drives any more, or you will show your stupidity about computers. There hundreds of reason why Floppy's are still used. For instance (example) if you need to repair WindowXP and require to load a driver, you can't load it without a Floppy.

One just can't clone a one HD to another and expect if to boot into Windows. I guarantee you will hang-up at the Welcome Window screen, very few succeed. There is a proper way, using proper programs.

  • i got an windows 7 laptop

and a little pc thats make like as a laptop i mean the hard drive is the same as the laptop harddrives but its windows xp and i want windows 7 on my little pc so if i delete the xp hardrive does it work or not?

  • I still use XP and IDE... sometimes it's not necessary to upgrade. I run my two favorite games CS and Project Reality just fine. Sometimes newer OS have trouble older games. Plus floppy disks are useful for checking RAM.

  • who the hell uses floppy disks anymore, windows XP or IDE?!?!?!?!?!

  • I am trying to clone my hard drive, which is size of 60gb, into a bigger hard drive of 320gb. i want to transfer every thing from operating system (windows xp) to all my programs.

  • 2 things,

one, NO ONE Uses Floppy drives no more ? Secondly IDE is old It's Sata now didn't you know that

  • So you can literally boot from a cloned drive? That's what I want.

  • @ComissarGramsci He just boots it up to check if the cloning worked.

  • How do you clone a Pizza? :-D

  • SOMEONE WAS PAID TO DO THIS!!!

  • Or you can use portable apps?

  • having said all that and being that this video is outdated , what do yo guys recommend ? i have a old computer also that runs on window xp with a pentium 4 and a 250gb hardrive . i need to clone it @ 10 times because it has a software on it that i use for party rentals ? how do i go about cloning the hardive over and over without having to rebuy the software each time ? thanks !

loaderperron@hotmail.com if you can help i will surely show some gratitude($) !!!!!

  • @bear62492 Download a free disk called Hiren's Boot CD, copy the image file to a CD, put it in your PC and reboot PC, make sure first boot device is your DVD drive and boot load the disk when it asks. Goto the backup section of all the tools and use acronis disk image... follow instructions... done.

  • I was searching for a way to copy my hard drive when I came across your video. It appears they no longer sell copy commander. Is there a newer version?

I see your video was done in 2008 and now it's 2011. That's a decade in computer years. Also it would be help if you updated the video since a lot of new computer user have never dealt with a floppy drive because they haven't been on computers in years.

    Thanks

    Angela

  • my computer doesnt even have a floppy drive and I havent seen one in a couple of years

  • old ass computer

  • the easier, FREE way (as apposed to spending 300 bucks for the software and a new hard drive) copy your C: drive to an external hard drive (only need between 100-200 GB) and boom. done. no yacht party music required. 8D

  • get extrenal hard drive, go to c drive and select all than copy it.

  • You could just burn a Linux LiveCD and run something like "dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb"...

  • i also tried copy commander it was complete shit.

  • WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH PIZZA THOUGH?

  • @GanjaGrowers there are many ways to cut a pizza and there are many ways to clone a hard drive

  • I'm guessing that no-one here has ever heard of RAID. Then.

I imagine that Your Casual User, saves all Personal Files to Disc, and when the System breaks, it's claimed on the Warranty, or it's been 3 Years, and it's time for a new one...

That's how my Clients seem to operate.

    And why not?

Everything has an expected Life, these Days.

  • @shadowolf192 RAID 0+1

  • @shadowolf192 I have a server at home with Windows 2008 Enterprise R2 on it, With four 2TB hard drives running Raid 5 and an 80GB hard drive for the operating system in it, I back everything I have up to this, the outlay cost a little but for securing data (Movies, Music, Oh and files) it is priceless and well worth the effort ......would recommend it to anyone serious about data security once up and running very stable and no need for modifying :)

  • @MrPod4g

yes but modify them and they brick.

    add components, they brick.

I love my i phone simply because its like 3 devices in my pocket.

Macs aren't good for high-flop calculations and proicessing.

but there great for playing angry birds! well, if thats all you use them for.

and before you troll me about multitasking,

i have 17 programs open, running 12 threads and my processor is only at 50% or so

    you loose

  • i dont think i can defrag with 0 bytes of hard drive space. its so bad i cant even watch youtube videos i have to go delete a file so i can watch a video. i just ordered a 2TB hdd from amazon to replace my 300gb..

  • clonezilla it on a backup drive...

  • i dont need to hear you read whats on the screen

  • @MrPod4g his point is that clone hard drive in mac is different so a mac user who wants to clone his hard drive watches and follows this, its gonna be useless

  • can i download this for free if i can't. How much can i buy it for?

  • LOL. there is something called "Sata2" or "Sata3"

  • >Today so far repaired 5 hard drives that were dead. Kicking them seems to work sometimes lol...

  • When was this made,I have not seen a floppy in a long time. NIMHFS,what hell is wrong with Apples OMG..

  • Dude im sorry but you act like were stupid and its kinda messed up geeze

  • It's not the right confidence not to make a backup of programs etc. I would either recommend kpartitionmanager (KDE partition manager) in order to make a backup or to clone a partition. It's for free. You will still have to install a boot loader and correct the partition ID using Super Fdisk (or maybe something else on Ultimate Boot CD) because kpartitionmanager doesn't save that correctly. But it works.

  • What is wrong with Acronis True Image?

  • wow looks much more easier to use than norton ghost, tried norton ghost b4 and the clone wouldnt boot,so gonna give this a try to clone my sons hd.

  • sweet music!

  • Ever heard of CloneZilla, it's free and does the same thing.

  • copy commander = Windows XP interface

  • Let me guess, you ripped that background music off of a porno you had on the old harddrive copy, didn't you?

  • Holy shit it's a floppy drive!!

  • wtf is he still alive?

  • Time Machine FTW!

  • Excuse me, but I'm thinking to upgrade to a SSD - Can I copy everything on my HDD I'm currently using to the SSD?

  • very nice vid.

  • Or you could use Clonezilla LiveCD.

    Free.

    Open source.

    Linux based.

    AKA = Awesome.

  • @champagnehyu Yes, but the point is more addressable space.

  • Dude starting ur computer with parts hanging out is deadly to ur motherboard & its components

  • my hardrive is super full - i dont know why as i regulary use disk cleanup and have no unecesary files would u recomend i partion my hardrive then format ? if not what should i do?

  • @solpandol78 purchase A flashdrive, and save some of ur programs on that! like pictures, documents, music..and even games! That will free up some space on ur HDD ! lol

  • I am trying to copy a large group of files from my server to my external hard drive...When the copy & paste is completed , it shows less files in the destination folder than the original...Why does this happen & how would you recommend I do this?

    Thanks...

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • I do partial backups onto external hard drives.

song downloads, videos I created (as archive footage), and computer games that don't need system registry.

  • Yeah. I have bought a new harddrive before. It came with a CD. The program on that disc allowed me to do exactly this. Copied the entire old drive to the new drive. Thats a very easy way to "reboot"

  • You can back up internet updates but as you said, it's a lot simpler to clone the hd. If one were to have a need to backup the updates or a single program (including all the custom configurations, changes, updates etc) and re-deploy that particular program again to one or more pc's with all its updates and custom configurations as a single software package, you'd need Novell Zenworks Snapshot or Zenworks Patch Management. :-)

  • @rugged74 well, wouldnt a reinstalled program Automatically search for updates once reinstalled? As in Google, Adobe, Java, Norton, McAfee, Internet Explorer, or any other Browser or Browser add on?

  • ever used acronis true image if so how was the succrss rate

  • for me it would take a MONTH SRSLY A MONTH (not real month like 10 hours of coping and dling (think bout it that long i wud go mad ) so ill just clone my files onto discs (either blu ray or dvd

  • Norton Ghost :P

  • Can you guys help me? I restarted my computer with the cc9 cd in it, booted from cd, it went to the Copy screen but my mouse won't work! I can't navigate to the copy button. The keyboard doesn't let me do it. Any else having this problem and how can I solve it?

  • booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • Nightflyyer is using 2 drives... one of them, is always being used for the system.. the other is just an old cloned drive sitting in a desk drawer somewhere.. soo when his main system drive fails.. he has to install the old cloned drive.. then update whatever needs to be updated.. unless he's constatly wasting time re-cloning his spare drive every week... Raid 1 is the best solution for this.. No need to re-install hdd or update. 137GB HDD Limit was only an issue in XP SP1.. it was fixed SP2

  • The Absolute best thing to do, is not to "clone" your hard drive, as suggested in this video.. But to Raid your HDD. Raid 1 Provides redundancy for this. Raid 5 provides Double the speed and Redundancy.. Raid 6 as well. As Nightflyer said, Cloning is only as good as your last cloned hard drive. With raid, 1 drive fails, u RMA it. then pop in the new drive, and it rebuilds the Raid Array,. nothing is lost... if two drives fail ( unlikely ) this is what raid 5 is for... Cloning is not the best

  • I have Win XP and it's awesome!

  • gay

  • i have a question lets say i completely whiped out my intier pc's hard drive can i clone my laptops hard drive and install it on my pc? (laptop has windows 7 pc use to have windows xp) o and if i can will the pc obtain winows 7?

  • @salvymex95 Sort of. You'll probably have to reactivate Windows when it boots on the desktop because it will notice the new hardware and presume it's a stolen copy / cloned installation.

  • no.

  • google PING (Partimage Is Not Ghost). You'll find maybe one of the best programs for backup and recovery. It can copy an entire partition even on an external HDD connected via USB. It will not overwrite your previous backups. If you have enough space on the partition to which you are copying the backup you will not lose your old data. The interface is not very user friendly but what the program does is cool

  • whut i dond even have a floppy drive

  • Thanks Dave! ~ Awesome tutorial.... Thanks to you, I purchased the Copy Commander 9 online & with you giving me a jist of how it works, I'll be trying it soon. I'll let you know how things go. Thanks again for the great video! Cudos!!

  • Symantec Ghost is the way to go if you have the access to it.

  • My mum says "just de-fragment windows again"..

  • I purchased a seagate hardrive (who make maxtor)just to use their free hard drive cloning software. The hard drive is ready to die after only six months, and the disc cloning hardware wouldnt let me boot into vista. So I had to do it the long way.Install vista the download all my programs .It takes weeks.

  • Im moving from a 250GB HD to a 500GB HD. I really dont want to just start over. I have music, videos, pictures, etc that I dont want to lose as well as video game saves. If I cloned my current drive to the new one, then switch them, would I notice absolutely nothing different other than more free space (since im moving to a bigger disk)? In other words, would I start up my computer with the new hard drive and everything would be the same?

  • no man it's not the emails i'll be worried about it's my 750gb of music and movies and games

  • the fact you use limewire makes me feel you have no professionalism, fuck you bitch

  • I put a game thats on hp games into my computer and it got the blue scereen of death :( btw can u still buy windows 98?

  • is acronis tru image11 home any good

  • Very helpful. But, what if the drive in the computer is IDE and the clone is SATA? How would you hook that up and how would you configure it as a slave?

  • thanks sir.... i wish that you will upload more video about com problem.....

  • A very wise thing to do...run scandisk first. Otherwise copy commander might get hung up during the copy process then you have to start all over again.

used to work in a pc repair shop...we used this many times...

  • help im will uninstall World of warcraft help me plzzz :(

  • HELP.

I am running RAID10 on a Promise EX8300 RAID Card

I want to swap between two different images:

    = Windows XP 32bit;

    = Windows 7 64bit;

    And change between them regularly.

Any ideas which cloning software will let me do that?

FYI: I also know about and run virtuals - but I need to change my native OS.

I would be grateful to anyone who ACTUALLY knows

    Cheers

  • PARTTWO____I need more room than that to install my programs but I used my last activation code. So I was wondering if I could put a second Hard Drive into my computer and transfer my 64bit version of Windows 7 over to the new Hard drive. This HDD already has an Operating system on it (windows 7 32bit). Can I upgrade that without a new activation code?

  • PARTONE______ I have a family pack for Windows 7. I have Installed the 32bit version on my hard drive. A couple of the programs I use needs a 64bit operating system. I decided to partition my 250Gb HDD to Install my other Windows 7 64bit OS. But when I went to partition my HDD, it only let me shrink a section to 13Gb.

  • IF YOU USE SEAGATE DRIVES TO MAKE A COPY YOU CAN DOWNLOAD A FREE PROGRAM CALLED SEAGATE DISK WIZARD THAT DOES THE SAME THING IN WINDOWS WHEN IT RESTARTS IS SHOWS PROGRESS TOOK ME ABOUT 35MINS TO CLONE 880 gb DRIVE. DOES sata 1.5MB AND 3MB AND 6MB

  • my pc uses sata for my drives, is the setup the same? i was going to make make the new drive a slave untill i cloned my old one and make the new one my main disk when finished. also my pc doesnt have a floppy drive will this software still work?

  • IF YOU USE SEAGATE DRIVES TO MAKE A COPY YOU CAN DOWNLOAD A FREE PROGRAM CALLED SEAGATE DISK WIZARD THAT DOES THE SAME THING IN WINDOWS WHEN IT RESTARTS IS SHOWS PROGRESS TOOK ME ABOUT 35MINS TO CLONE 880 gb DRIVE. DOES sata 1.5MB AND 3MB AND 6MB WORKS WIT MAXTOR DRIVES ALSO.

  • your music is to hard

    i cant hear your voice

  • WHO TAUGHT YOU THAT?

  • Anyone who knows if this works with Windows 7? :)

  • YES.

  • just want to know i have 2 Harddrives and i want to put another OS on the other one so i can put it in my cousins computer can i do that and then afterwards put my old harddrive back?and will it still work as my OS?

  • It will if yoor cousins computer is identical as in the hardware is the same.

  • ah tnx only difference with us is the VC his is hyundai and i cant find the driver on the NET help?

  • Theres an OpenSource Solution called "CloneZilla". I made very good experiences with it, because it supports external Hard Drives.

  • xxclone is no longer FREE 40.00 for a single license

  • is ti posible to clone by using a DOS command

  • Loose with his terminology, confusing disk/partition backup with Windows "settings and data" backup

A "backup" can backup EVERYTHING on a drive, including all programs, system information/drivers, settings, downloads, etc. A backup can usually be restored to any disk as long as it is at the same or higher capacity as the original drive, creating a fully intact and bootable system disk or intact data partition

DriveImageXML is an excellent FREEWARE alternative image backup program for Windows

  • A cloning program can GENERALLY be run from within a specific Operating System, OR can be OS independent

Example of excellent FREEWARE cloning program is XXclone. Creates bootable copy of disk. If primary disk fails, just swap in cloned disk and you're up and running within a few minutes with all your programs, data, etc intact

Cloning programs can be "bit-wise" or functional clones with pros and cons for each type

There are other very good FREEWARE disk/partition backup and cloning programs

  • Hey everyone, the guy below me uses a mac!

    *laughter*

  • I doo to bro, and i never have to go through any of this frustrating shit, why?...exactly you guessed it right, because its a mac......pc is a waste of money and time

    *laughter*

  • for people who people who only need their computer to be not much more than a glorified ipod windows is definitely a waste of time and money.

  • @xXTaNodel408Xx

ONLY if you are just gonna listen to music and fiddle with Photos - A Mac is a fantastic Work Machine, I use one, But my PC a waste of money?? Oh Nooo!!, I love it, It's upgradeable, flexible, future-proof and ;when taken care of, Bomb proof! ..

PhotoShop, FTP, Games, MultiScreen, Multi-GPU Super Flexible Everything machine!!..

Yeah i Know, enthusiast POV , ..but it's just Horses for Courses .Niether are a "Waste of Money"

  • @NIMHFS LOL mac..

  • @NIMHFS ans what is wrong with mac? (|)_(|)

  • This is why i use Time Machine on my Macbook Pro. I don't have to find software that works for me, because it's built right into the OS.

  • i'm sorry.

  • This didn't work, it only seemed to clone the software on the drive, but not the drive itself. :(

  • Also how do you set it up for slave and master?

  • With the Jumper on your harddisk.

  • A couple of Questions do I have to format the drive to (C:) and if so how? Also how did you set it up in 5:48?

  • get a mac like me i love it and how to use stuff is go to the dock or click on macHD.

  • does this work on a laptop?

  • Acronis Disk Director Suite is pretty good too! Once you have cloned your drive with Acronis Disk Director Suite you can actually mount the disk image to a drive letter to access the data inside it!

  • very good vid,,,,he used copy comander,,,,,,which i have,,,,another good software is partition comander,,,good for formating and creating partitions

  • very good did it the way you done it well done so much better than norton ghost one thing i found tho making the cd is better than using the floppy ands after the driver was transferred it was very laggy for a while but its all good now thanx nice tips

  • WINDOWS XP KICKS ASS!!!!!!!

  • @kuza261 have you tried 7 yet

  • @kuza261 More stable than Vista. (Linux is the best) (just hard to use )

  • @WWWeres Linux .. is the easiest program to use. lmao.. what r u talkin about...

  • good vid

  • You sound like Mickey Rourke

  • i invited some hot chicks over n threw a party to ur background music

  • @mynonsense me to :)

  • @mynonsense lmao

  • nightflyyer<<---- i remember last time my prof told me to clone using norton we need 3 hdd. one is where ur os installed the other one is the hd u want to back up and 3rd is the hd u wnt to back up to. is copy commander can copy even the os??? and it just need 2 hard drive???

  • probably died because you think kicking the computer is a better idea then sliding the side off and plugging the sata/ide cable back in all the way.

I just partition off 40GB and install windows on that specific partition keeping my games downloads music and others on a seperate partition on the same drive.

when i get virused out. no need to image the whole drive. just unpack your image from the other partition and re boot..

tah dah no need to burn DVD's or waste time doing this???

  • LOL, It's interesting :))

  • my dad he cloned the hard drive of the computer that we dont use and share it with the one that works and it works idk how he did it. but i need a hard drive for my xboxlive(360)

  • I have not heard the word" floppy" in a long time. I wonder how old this video is

  • who still has a floppy disk drive =o

  • I do!

  • I do on my first computer. It came with windows 95 XD

  • floppy??? wat year does he think this is?

  • i love the elavator music...

  • Get Acronis True Image, you can boot to CD not floppy. Also its a backup program, but also has clone fuction just as easy.

  • cloning will keep your installed programs on the old drive?

  • yea

  • I found most of them run as normal, but sometimes registered ones will ask for a new registration code as it has detected the change of drive and thinks it's a different computer.

  • u take too fucking long

  • Can I Cloned even I don't have a Copy Commander 9 or what so ever?

  • Is there a way to copy only the OS files and installed programs without personal files (like music, pics, etc.) from one hard drive to another?

  • the best way would be to have programs on C: drive data on D: then make an 'image' of just the C: drive.

Or clone the disk then remove the data partition.

  • Oh wow, thanks!

  • Oh, and since you seem to know what you are talking about...do you have any recommendations for a failed hard drive? (I think the motor may be deceased)

  • How did you get windows to restart so fast lmao.

  • DriveXML if you are on a PC and it is free, if you do it all the time I would recommend Acronis Trueimage.

  • i love when he says the flight sim part.. IT IS SO TRUE=]

  • u should use hypercam, camtasia or camstudio to record computer screen instead of a camera

  • Why should he? It was easy enough to understand just the with narration alone.

Typeing the instructions on the screen is a poor substitute to a GOOD narration.

  • That is right. Thanks. Those programs dont run in dos anyway.

  • They cant be run during something like this, as they need windows to run not DOS.

  • your toast

  • Try using a different computer to format it, otherwise, open it up in Windows explorers and delete all the files.

  • in 5:00 what dose it dose is it like what happens if you restart your PC by the button cuz thats what happens to it says its cgeckings some things!

  • You need to wait, and only shut off the computer with the hard shut down, if in dos, not windows.

  • Great vid Nightflyyer! Worked for me.

Amazing what 1 floppy disc can do!

Dont know if anyones posted but theres a free CC at rapidshare, so it did not cost a penny. thanks again Nightflyyer from

    across the big pond. C

  • on macs there are 2 free ( 100% free) porgrams,

    Carbon coppy cloner

    and

    Super duper,

also most people no longer have floppy drives as us apple user killed it

  • hey i have a question, say i get a bigger hard drive and i want to use carbon coppy or supper duper would it also clone my windows partitions as well as my osx partitions

  • thats good,,,,....im rexie from philippines....,

  • I'll tell u what NightFlyyer, you know alot of people might say "I got a better way blah blah blah" I'll tell you I spend litterally all day and night on my computer for the past 15 years at least 14 hours a day since I was unable to walk for most of my life. Your way to do this is absolutly the most fool-proof way in order to do this.

  • Thanks very kindly.

  • Also you could have a second hard disk and have it tied to the main one... i forget what its called.

  • its called RAID 5, that way you don't need to do any of this...
