Several minor but important criticisms have been mentioned in reviews of this axe. Will the rockwell rating be raised at all to 55 or more? And will the bit be made thinner in finishing in the future?
I'd love to buy one of these axes but I have no interest in resharpening the bit and I'd also like an axe that can hold a sharpening for longer.
I'm very glad I saw your video before buying a new axe. (It's what I ended up with by typing "American made axe" into a search engine.) Maybe I'm getting old, but I really appreciated hearing how the guys whose jobs were taken over by the robot are now running that robot. Well done. I know where I'm getting my axes from now on.
I have to admit that I was a bit dismayed at seeing the robot in this process, but I feel that you guys redeemed yourselves with the hand polishing and sharpening. A very nice looking axe.
I think Santa is going to drop off a 4# Dayton at my house this year. Good to see a quality American product, especially in today's age of "buy it cheap and throw it away".
i have to say that you paper sharpness test is very miss leading. i can reeplicate the same result with my 1/16 thick stamped aluminum mouse pad with very dull edges. you have a way to steep edge for this to be of any use as a cutting tool. That steep of an edge is what you would put on a splitting tool. Showing a real hanging paper push cut is a far better example you tool sharpness.
awsome. i really enjoyed that video. ive been considering a council axe for awhile now. mainly b/c of the american made product.

Very cool guys. I'm looking into getting one. Something about the hudson bay style... and the velvicut nailed it from the looks of it.
