Hal finally took $64 out of his own pocket, and gave it to Jack, who thanked him, and walked off stage to thunderous applause. Again, this was strictly a "gag" [Benny previously did this stunt on his friend Phil Baker's "TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT" {"The $64 Question"} game show on radio in the '40s].

  • I believe I described this episode last time, but I'll repeat it for those who missed it the first time: this originally aired live on October 20, 1957 [the Lucky Strike commercials, however, are missing from this kinescope], and is a "sequel" of sorts to Jack's appearance two weeks before on "THE $64,000 QUESTION", where he was a "gag contestant". After correctly answering the first question for $64, he insisted to host Hal March he wanted the money instead of going on to the next question...
