Thank you for uploading this concert. It was a real experience to watch, I just can't imagine, what a feeling is to be there...It's for me now a huge dream. I was about 5 years old when this was hold... :) I was a real fan of them that times :) and last summer I found them for me again...it was a great decision. I will never forget you Kellys!

John Kelly wrote on a website that one day the Kelly Family busked outside a restaurant, and all the patrons, who happened to be a Basque Choir, sang this song in return. Papa Kelly was so moved that the family learnt it and have sung it at special occasions ever since. The words are simple: "Welcome, Friend! Friend, Welcome! In a repectful way they are saying goodbye to the Lords of their providence/world and telling them we were all made by God, you and we also, here we are, goodbye Lords. It is in a sense, a welcome also for the Lords to know and believe/receive they too are made by God. It is sung very respectfully to them. This is a very cherished and loved song in the Basque country by the Basque people. I love this song so very much and I'm American but doesn't matter to me that I am....

And they were really talented, they didn't need playback or sound effects to give us wounderlfull performnce. That is way they touched our souls. This song is one of the examples of a language and culture than exist today at the north of the Spain state, a different language of the Basque nation. the basque language seems to be very special, not even european. I think F. Hahn made a free translation to expres what he feels. Hope we find someone who can translate it properly.
There are a few other versions on the web. I don't know what is the real melody, I like the Kelly version because it seems to come from there hearts and I think every artist who covers a well known song should sing his/her own interpretation. Goodnight and goodbye for now.

In a repectful way they are saying goodbye to the Lords of their providence/world and telling them we were all made by God, you and we also, here we are, goodbye Lords. It is in a sense, a welcome also for the Lords to know and believe/receive they too are made by God. It is sung very respectfully to them. This is a very cherished and loved song in the Basque country by the Basque people. I love this song so very much and I'm American but doesn't matter to me that I am....

@FenristheElf This is a traditional Basque song. It has to be sung to welcome people or say goodbye. Normally it´s not that slow, but I like it like this as well.

You're right, they created songs full of emotions, songs that mean something, that make us think about importnt things. And they were really talented, they didn't need playback or sound effects to give us wounderlfull performnce. That is way they touched our souls. We'll always remember them because there was truth in their perfomences. I wish I saw them one more time....

Eine wunderschöne interpretation dieses Liedes, das ist der Steel, den ich an der Kelly Family immer mochte und auch heute noch mag. Wahnsinnig schade dass die Family - in dieser Besetzung - nicht mehr existiert. Eine großartige, wundervolle Familie, die zusammen unschlagbar war in ihrer Art. The Basque Country is divided between the French state and the Spanish state. The Basque is spoken in the Northern of the Spanish state and the south west of the French state. It´s a daily use language for us, official like the Castilian. This language was pursued trying to extinct when the Spanish dictator Franco. But it´s a very -very old and also jewel of the Basque culture, also very old and rich.

When I was a child we were singing this song all the school festivals, at the heart of the Basque country. This song is one of the examples of a language and culture than exist today at the north of the Spain state, a different language of the Basque nation. es una canción de despedida! de despedida para siempre!a una persona a la que se le tiene aprecio y respeto!que se canta con la emoción y tristeza de que se le dice a la persona que se le canta adiós para siempre!

Aparte de ser una canción de despedida, tambien es usada en actos institucionales de euskadi, o es tocada cuando sale la corporación muncipal etc.
Cuando se dice AGUR, puede ser para despedir (al hablar se utiliza de esta manera), o en un contexto más formal (en cartas etc.) se utiliza simplemente para saludar y la forma más habitual de escribir es AGUR T'ERDI.

Creo que ya lo puse por aquí, pero bueno, aunque me repita, os adelanto que el dia 10 de Octubre John Kelly (el que sale hablando a mitad del video) viene a actuar al teatro Gayarre de Pamplona, con Maite Itoiz. Echad un vistazo a su versión del Txoria Txori y si podéis, mirad algunos videos que tienen cargados de actuaciones a ver si nos animamos unos cuantos a ir para allá.

the basque language seems to be very special, not even european. I think F. Hahn made a free translation to expres what he feels. Hope we find someone who can translate it properly.

There are a few other versions on the web. I don't know what is the real melody, I like the Kelly version because it seems to come from there hearts and I think every artist who covers a well known song should sing his/her own interpretation. Goodnight and goodbye for now.
