Better than the recorded version, But still has that energy with all the band and the voice is unmistakeable with Marriott leading the sound of brilliance.
My favorite SF song and this seems to be the best version of it. The electric organ sounds perfect, really rich and powerful and Steve's voice is in fine form.
@eyesaw77 "Come on!" was his appreviated version of his oft used "Come on, children!" which I'm not sure he ever used again after around the time this song was released. No question, unmistakable.
this is marriott in response! to chris/rachel. its rec from newcastle it was included as part of autumn stone/in memoriam album which was released after steve left the band. there is several other live tracks from this concert all or nothing every little bit hurts rollin over. due to the distorted sound it can sound tinted but still value for marriott & co.
Robert 'Percy' Plant owes much to Steve, and I say that with respect to the former Zep singer; it is just that how obvious can an influence be? Marriott was one of the best ever.
@bartonim hello ! To me in terms of blues rock he wasn't one of the best - to me in terms of ROCK Steve Marriott WAS/IS THE BEST - always will be - and you are soooo right - Plant owes his career to the influence of Marriott - in my little piddly opinion - Cheers
You're so right. I happen to think this is the best song ever turned out - EVER - by anyone ! I still have the original 45. This live performance was all the way from the Newcastle City Hall (N.E. England) 1968.
@bartonim With all due respect to Robert Plant, he learned a LOT from both Steve Marriott and Terry Reid, vocally. Surpassed both in fame, not least because he was such a good student.
Now I suggest you watch the Humble Pie video "I believe to my soul" and listen to Steve's great vocal delivery. His vocal range & delivery are hard or almost impossible to match. Steve is my all time favourite singer, O melhor de todos. The best
once i get things in order and back on track, new house etc, got a cpl of suprises up my sleeve for ya m8, hope everything is cool in the people republic
gonna dedicate a whole day to youtube and get back on track
Os melhores...nao sei. E posso, mais temos que considerar os outros dos anos 60s...como The Who, The Kinks, etc. But the fact that their music is here on You Tube 40 years later definitely tells us that their music will live forever.
Claro que ha outros muito bons. Como compositores Lennon/McCartney sao talvez os melhores de todos, mas o melhor vocalista de grupos dos anos 60 e depois na decada de 70 com Humble Pie e sem duvida Steve Marriott.
Live at the Newcastle Civic Hall 1968, I believe. Awesome, powerful, completely different from anything else that was around at the time. Shame about the poor acoustics.
Stunning voice, brilliant song, fantastic band - saw them was I was 15 and I am now 58 - still can't be beaten.......what more can you say. Thanks for the video. Alison
Great to see - loved this song the first time I heard it when it came out and still a huge favourite - true rock. Sounds like the audience were impressed! There is an instrumental version on one CD but I haven't heard it.
Steve and Ronnie... Always in my minds eye

Hot damn, I wish there were more Small Faces live performances on Youtube because this is absolutely fire-breathing rock and roll.
Just man, seeing them live, these guys would have blown me away.

It's obviously Marriot. Sounds different because they are playing it a half step down.

You can tell it's him by the way he goes "Come on!" at the start, almost an uncontrollable verbal tick..
Chris Bailey of The Saints has the same thing - unmistakable.
