This recording does not do the performance justice (still very glad someone uploaded this tho!). White Stripes have been my fave band for years and I was in the front row - Jack totally blew me away with his vocals. Love the YYYs version of this too but this live performance of it was best cover i've ever seen, so much raw emotion and power, i was literally crying with joy. xx

I totally understand megs minimalist drumming for their original songs, i'm not one of those critics, but for Maps, its the drums in part that 'make' the song. I wonder why she didn't add something more to this song. This is one of the few white stripes covers i don't care for, for that very reason.
I think it is a great compliment of one great band covering another. I only wish more great musicians like white strips would cover YYY songs. YYY have such great music to cover.

I was there that night up the front and it was an awesome unexpected experience (One of my favorite bands at the time covering my favorite song). It wont go down as a great cover but that's not the point when it comes to the live impromptu music arena. My wife and I were meant to go together but by the time it came around she was 8 months pregnant so I drove up and back the night of the festival (3 hours each way) so to hear it again and relive the experience is awesome
i don't really like this cover at all, but it sounds really impromptu. so i don't think that what i or anybody thinks really matters cause it's not like it's at all likely that they sat around for hours practicing the song.

Because david Johansen, and Danzig both have amazing, deep, gritty voices. Their voices are on par with like, Jim Morrison, Elvis Presley, or Joe cocker. Joke's voice is all screetchy. The Stripes should also get a bass player....I dont know man I just think they got a lot of lucky hype. I could see them being like, a local novelty act that people could respect, but they're certainly not worthy of the praise they get, and playing with the Stones etc.
Kings of Leon got a lot of "lucky hype" when they started and went on to do Because Of The Times, which is to this day, one of the best albums i've ever heard. Give them a chance, The Stripes just need to find themselves.

Oh fuck, awful. Don't mess with Karen O. Maybe cover something less soft like "Rockers to Swallow" or something, which may actually work with Jack's voice. I like WS, but this is crap, and I'm usually very tolerant to covers. And don't give me any crappy thumbs down before you actually listen to Maps by YYY then you know I'm just stating facts.

That's completely your opinion. Maps is my favorite song from YYY, and I think this cover was okay. It was nowhere near as terrible as you made it sound. The audio was pretty bad though, I'll admit that.

see karen o just has that understated passion in her delivery that speaks volumes into the lyrics.
no one can replicate the way she felt when she wrote the song and that manifests itself in the way others fall short in their performances of this song.

This sounds like a dollar store version of the original.
I'm pretty sure anytime she's sang this song live, is about a hundered times better than this.

I stand by the fact that it doesn't compare to the original.
I've heard the YYY's LIVE version, and its amazing, much better than this, that was my point.
This version isn't even close, even if they are trying to "make it their own."
Who cares if their friends?
I never said I didn't respect the White Strips music.

I think megs drumming goes perfect with jacks guitar and if someone else drummed for the white stripes half of the creativity would vanish, and we'd be left with another band doing the same thing as everyone else.

i think terrible is harsh, and i've said this for another vid: she's not the greatest drummer in the world but for their music style she doesn't need to be. and she has got better. cut her some slack.

i'm not even really into drums and to be honest i don't have a damn clue who the names you mentioned are. but listen to "girl you have no faith in medicine". the song could sound so much better with some drums that actually went along with what jack's doing. and i dont think she should be hacking away at the drums as fast as possible, i can't stand when the drums just dominate songs.

Also that song, (7 n) isn't nearly as cool as say, Satifaction, Rebel Rebel, or Day Tripper. infact it's catchy, but kind of annoying, like the macarena

i really don't think you've give the stripes older first few albums a good enough of listen if you think none of their other songs aren't distinct. what about "we're going to be friends", "broken bricks", "fell in love with a girl", and "cannon"?

Because david Johansen, and Danzig both have amazing, deep, gritty voices. Their voices are on par with like, Jim Morrison, Elvis Presley, or Joe cocker. Joke's voice is all screetchy. The Stripes should also get a bass player....I dont know man I just think they got a lot of lucky hype. I could see them being like, a local novelty act that people could respect, but they're certainly not worthy of the praise they get, and playing with the Stones etc.

Kings of Leon got a lot of "lucky hype" when they started and went on to do Because Of The Times, which is to this day, one of the best albums i've ever heard. Give them a chance, The Stripes just need to find themselves.
