  • Who

  • Meg couldn't play the drums? REALLY??? They're so easy! -.-

  • i love the white stripes, but meg is terrible on the drums

  • When you put a song in a commercial you sell out, I'm not just saying it to be a troll because i liked the White Stripes too...It just really disappointed me....

  • @TheOrderoftheOwl I disagree. If you write a song primarily to put in a commercial you sell out. If you sell your song for a product to use, and you like the product.. what's the issue?

  • @TheOrderoftheOwl what song?

  • @LukasMcSherry Ball & Biscuit...Captain Morgans commercial

  • @TheOrderoftheOwl what about all the White Stripes songs featured in movies?

  • @LukasMcSherry The Social Network, The Other Guys, The new Footloose a couple more you can see it on IMDB

  • White Stripes sold out.....Captain Morgans commercial....Ball & Biscuit.....

  • @TheOrderoftheOwl They didn't sell out, the music is still perfectly intact. They just rock is all.

  • @TheOrderoftheOwl Maybe Jack like the captain

  • Jack covers the YYYs because he respects Nick Zinner.

  • This recording does not do the performance justice (still very glad someone uploaded this tho!). White Stripes have been my fave band for years and I was in the front row - Jack totally blew me away with his vocals. Love the YYYs version of this too but this live performance of it was best cover i've ever seen, so much raw emotion and power, i was literally crying with joy. xx

  • Jack White and Karen O go together dont they? :) Then add in Sammy James from the Mooney Suzuki on guitar , get Krist Novoselic from Nirvana on bass and Dave Grohl on Drums and finally add in Billie Joe from Green Day on backup vocals and guitar

so imagine this for a new super rock garage blues punk band

Jack White ( Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar )

    Karen O ( Female Vocals )

Billie Joe Armstrong ( Second Back-up Vocals, Rhythm Guitar )

Krist Novoselic ( Bass Guitar )

    Dave Grohl ( Drums )

  • @jetsonic69 no way there super rock band is done already you cant beat the Raconteurs or Dead Weather for that matter

  • Haha, the lyrics are so off it's awesome. Fuck yea, nice song drop.

  • They've done this song well, not calling Meg an awful drummer like most do but because of her simplicity, they've made a good job of it. In my opinion both versions are brilliant and The White Stripes are my favourite band and I've only just found this cover!

  • The White Stripes are undisputedly the most important band of the last fifteen years. They're allowed to cover a song every now and then.

  • @jakeiverson57 well said sir

  • I'm gonna go against what you're all saying and say that Jack White's singing makes it sound so much more emotional.

  • Considering that everyone covers the whitestripes ( AND I MEAN EVERYBODY) It should be the hugest compliment when they cover your song. <333

  • everybody keeps complaining over and over how there are no good bands anymore and with the yeahs and white stripes i beg to differ. this is the best love song EVER and the stripes capture it's power.

  • What's the deal with all the dumb comments? The White Stripes obviously did this out of a tribute to YYYs...not to be better or attempt to rival. They're fans of each other, get over it. I'm pretty sure if we were in the crowd, we'd all be singing along anyways.

  • actelly its kind of good

very at the white stripes way

    it works i like

and i hate this band but thats a tribute to YYY'S and its so good

  • A cover of a song is a tribute to that song, not a challenge. And it by no means has to sound the same. Every cover I see/hear on youtube I see people commenting "the original is so much better". Well guess what? This isn't the original, it's not meant to be. Why would anybody try to duplicate something that already exists in a perfectly good state? If you want to hear the original, LISTEN TO IT! Otherwise let other artists cover these great songs.

  • You guys are killing me. I can't even read your comments. Fuck off.

  • I think it sounded good. I mean, I'm sure if they had this professionally recorded and were super serious about it it'd be 10,1000 bajillion times better. Also this sound quality isn't that great either, no offense to whoever recorded this so you can't really base how good they're playing their instruments or jacks singing. Maybe he wanted to sing it that way also. Idk, just my opinion.

  • now i love the white stripes. with all my heart.

    but this cover sucks :0

  • If I can play the drums to this track why the F* cant a "professional" drummer do it >:C It makes me angry that people slog their guts out to be great musicians and never get anywhere, while this level of musicality is considered good enough at the main stage of music festivals. hell, even headlining. there are a million bands/artists/musicians that deserve more than meg white. (for the record, I dont mind jack so much he can come up with some quite catchy tunes)

  • @nick2150 Oh shut up. Writing a great song isnt about being a great singer or musician. Its about being original and giving a different angle on something. So in your world only the most pitch perfect singers deserve to be famous as well? Why not think about punk. Were any of those punk guitarists "talented"? You really look at music in the wrong way.

  • if your a true white stripes fan then you know what ever comes out of jacks mouth an guitr is great! and for those wondering why Meg isnt a super good drum player is because thats the kind of sound that they want simple yet amazing!! i bet none of you knew that jack red guitar is a cheap whole plastic body electric guitar with effect pedals!! hes an amazing musician!! only a fool would doubt that!

  • 2:01

  • I am a fan of both bands, but I think WS should have just left this alone, or at least come better prepared, like for instance LEARN THE LYRICS. It one of those songs that is so deeply personal to the songwriter and the band who wrote and recorded it is hubris to try to even pull it off. It requires an emotional depth that just isn't provided here by Jack and Meg, sorry to say. Jack clearly doesn't know the lyrics and I am stunned he would go out there to perform that song so unprepared.

  • how can you people judge on such a horrible sound quality. i thought it was fine. altho i love everything jack white puts out threw whatever instruments he playing. good job jackie. love you too YYY's

  • the drummer is a supero offense for the music, she´s so comformist with her work :/

  • this sucks but the yeah yeah yeahs r better karen sing this song really good the white stripes nope

  • did jack mess up in the begining =]

  • I am terribly sorry to say this, but Meg really sucks at drum

  • You guys can't even hear the song very well, because someone snuck in a handheld recorder so I don't see how you can possibly complain about Jack and Meg's performance. If you can do better than The White Stripes, then put up the video. I can't wait to see it.

  • TE AMO KAREN O, COMO DICEN LOS RAMONES "I WANNA BE YOUR BOYFRIEND".

I LOVE KAREN, YOU ARE MY DREAM GIRL

  • i wish i was in that crowd!

  • woot woot. i like this one better than the original cuz i've always loved jack white, his guitar playing AND singing. and gah, i've always hated the actual yeah yeah yeahs original. it got so much hype; unneeded in my opinion. woot woot, but go Jack!!! =))))

  • I love the white stripes but...this...should be forgotten

  • I dont think jack knows the words....

  • even when the recorder is not very good is awesome to listen this beautiful song with jack's voice

  • chelsea pensioners + white stripes = WIN :)

  • I totally understand megs minimalist drumming for their original songs, i'm not one of those critics, but for Maps, its the drums in part that 'make' the song. I wonder why she didn't add something more to this song. This is one of the few white stripes covers i don't care for, for that very reason.

  • @theredreceivers she can't drum basically. she can keep a beat..

  • I think it is a great compliment of one great band covering another. I only wish more great musicians like white strips would cover YYY songs. YYY have such great music to cover.

  • Love the picture at 0:11 . XD Jack White's so cute....

  • The next time keep away your fingers from the mic (sorry bad english)

  • if only white stripes officially recorded this cover it would've been so awesome

  • such a beautiful song,such a bad quality :(

  • Oh man, simply amazing, I love this song.

  • If you want the Yeah Yeah Yeahs version, listen to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs version, or don't complain.

  • I wish I was there

  • I gotta admit, I kinda like the crowd's singing along with Jack here.

Not as good as the original, but that's often the case, and both bands are great, but the YYY's version is so crisp with the drums and and had Karen O's voice, which is good all of the time, but she nails the song and brings it home.

  • better than arcadefire though.... and no cover it's better than the original, stop complain...

  • Arcade Fire did a much better job; they made it their own.

  • the drumming is terrible

  • the original has some super drums, and here... mmm... not. But still I would love to be there anyway!!! :)

  • i think that karen´s o Voice is far much better for this song...

  • Only Karen can sings map well :)

  • @Lvsme True she sings it the best but you cant deny, you wish you were in that audience singing along as well!

  • @Lvsme I agree Karen brings it to life.

  • I was there that night up the front and it was an awesome unexpected experience (One of my favorite bands at the time covering my favorite song). It wont go down as a great cover but that's not the point when it comes to the live impromptu music arena. My wife and I were meant to go together but by the time it came around she was 8 months pregnant so I drove up and back the night of the festival (3 hours each way) so to hear it again and relive the experience is awesome

  • don't be so hard on yourself, i'm sure your balls will find something they're good at some day.

  • LOL

  • i really like that cover

though I still prefer the original version

yyys and tws both are great

  • i don't really like this cover at all, but it sounds really impromptu. so i don't think that what i or anybody thinks really matters cause it's not like it's at all likely that they sat around for hours practicing the song.

  • The White Stripes are all Impromptu...

  • the music sounded amazing though

  • its weird hearing a guy singing this song

  • Wow so many thumbs down on the true comments. I know they're coming for me too. This is not a good cover period.

  • at least get the lyrics right.......weak :(

  • jack has just the BEST taste with the songs he covers.

  • white stripes are really great but i don't think all of us are just looking for that straight out ROCK n' ROLL feel all the god damn time. So as to us "indie kids" being whatever, I say Fuck you

HIPandiDONTmeanHOP cause when I listen or play music I really don't want to hear the common bar chords and obnoxious "face melting" guitar solo's song after song. So broaden your tastes.

  • yea the white stripes totally rock ass live especially but its not a good cover of an awesome song...and the yeah yeah yeah's are way better of course

  • the lyrics seems different from yyy's one.. isnt'it ?

  • you're right the lyrics are different

  • Especially because Jack White doesn't know them haha, but great tho

  • Not Bad

  • meg's drumming is so monotonous - sounds the same in almost every song they play? I am probably going to get my head bitten off now for airing an opinion...

  • I agree 100 percent. Every one of her drum lines is the same

  • so many red

  • great cover bad sound quality

  • I'd have to agree. I'm a huge White Stripes fan but this is a crappy cover of a great song.

  • i like yeah yeah yeahs better

  • I love Jack & Meg! Great images I've never seen before. Plus Maps is one of my all time fav songs. Thanks for the vid!

  • No, this cover is really good. A bad cover was when the Raconteurs covered Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" (everyone makes mistakes, even Jack White)

  • Wtf are you talking about? That cover of Crazy was very well done.

  • I personally like it

  • I'm really big White Stripe's fan but i think that it's very poor cover. Anyway, I like that video because of many photos that I haven't seen before. Thanks for that video ;)!

  • Love the white stripes but this a pretty bad cover

  • When I say that this is a really bad cover, I don't mean I don't like the White Stripes. They're a great band. And what's up with the crowd singing along? That made it worse

  • i fucking hate when crowds feel the need to sing along, badly.

  • haha, people are fighting about someone's opinion and it led to hateful comments about their intellect... ON THE INTERNET.

    be nice, kids, be nice.

in MY opinion, i don't prefer this over the original.

wanna hate on me too? :)

  • terrable

  • learn to spell, then comment, cutsiemeckk. :)

  • Bad cover...

  • Your an idiot!!

  • What a fucking genius. It must take a lot to get one over on you Huh?

  • you do know what a Cover is?...right?

  • lol fuckin idiot

  • gimmicky incrowd band...please stfu

  • ok...i totally love white stripes but they ruined the song :(

  • mal audio pero está buenisima

    !

  • Oh fuck, awful. Don't mess with Karen O. Maybe cover something less soft like "Rockers to Swallow" or something, which may actually work with Jack's voice. I like WS, but this is crap, and I'm usually very tolerant to covers. And don't give me any crappy thumbs down before you actually listen to Maps by YYY then you know I'm just stating facts.

  • That's completely your opinion. Maps is my favorite song from YYY, and I think this cover was okay. It was nowhere near as terrible as you made it sound. The audio was pretty bad though, I'll admit that.

  • Ok....maybe you're right. I think the fact that the audience singing along did screw this up a bit.

  • Its interesting that they did a cover of this. It kind of makes me happy<33 I don't care what anyone says. WS and YYY are great bands.

  • she its a terrible drummer, that song the original its the drums whats make a good song greath

  • see karen o just has that understated passion in her delivery that speaks volumes into the lyrics.

no one can replicate the way she felt when she wrote the song and that manifests itself in the way others fall short in their performances of this song.

    peace

  • blah blah blah can you even spell art?

  • no you just cleared that mystery up for me thanks.

  • blah blah blah my pleasure ;)

  • as much as a adore the white stripes, I have to agree with you guys

  • Karen O owns this song.

This sounds like a dollar store version of the original.

I'm pretty sure anytime she's sang this song live, is about a hundered times better than this.

And I can't believe the ridiculous comments that are being made.

Guns n Roses, Jimi Hendrix, Kings of Leon? Seriously.

    It's a Maps cover.

    Right.

  • god damnit, do you not understand it's a cover song, they are purposely not trying to sound like karen o to make it their own. most likely jack white and karen o are friends, and to say it sounds like a dollar store version? the white stripes are one of the most respected bands in the world today, the yeah yeah yeah's are'nt. there is a reason for that.

  • I stand by the fact that it doesn't compare to the original.

I've heard the YYY's LIVE version, and its amazing, much better than this, that was my point.

This version isn't even close, even if they are trying to "make it their own."

    Who cares if their friends?

I never said I didn't respect the White Strips music.

I just don't see how this cover is good, in any way.

    AT ALL.

  • SURE...I'm one of those "retarded" "dumbass" indie kids.

    Yeah, right.

All, I do is bitch bitch bitch because I made one comment.

    Totally, you're so right.

    You're so smart.

    Oh em gee.

    So fucking smart.

    You're illiterate, and totally asinine.

I gave my opinion about a video, THATS WHAT THE COMMENTS SECTION IS FOR.

If you're really that concerned, you should seek help on how to get a life.

  • haha ok ya im illiterate, i can't spell, i can't read right? you can't even talk shit the right way, you called me illiterate when obviously i can spell, and i clearly can read what your saying. and your calling me the retard haha.

  • dude ur retarded.....

  • you're hilarious, get angry at me now

that was sarcasm, so.. touche et cetera

  • In that context it would be "you're," but really... who cares?

  • dude 1 thing ..does it really matter how i spell it? asshole

  • fail.

and i LOVE the white stripes.

but no. this is karen o's song.

  • people just cannot cover this song....it always sounds like a high school attempt...

  • this is the first wise comment ive seen. bravo!

  • the 1st wise comment! bravo!

  • Yeah, Acrade Fire AND The White Stripes failing? Sounds impossible but Karen O's voice has a certain sincerity thats just lacking in the covers.

  • agreed.

  • This is cool of them to do this song.

  • I think megs drumming goes perfect with jacks guitar and if someone else drummed for the white stripes half of the creativity would vanish, and we'd be left with another band doing the same thing as everyone else.

  • two of my favorites bands ever

  • If you like, screechy, flat, and sucky.

  • what a piss poor cover.

  • Calm down Meg!

  • why does everyone diss meg. she didnt even know what ther were going to play untill jack started singing

  • Leave Meg White alone, she's eccentric beautiful and great drummer

  • eccentric and beautiful maybe but she is terrible at drumming

  • i think terrible is harsh, and i've said this for another vid: she's not the greatest drummer in the world but for their music style she doesn't need to be. and she has got better. cut her some slack.

  • i donno i personally think a good many of their songs could be improved with better drumming

and for how much she plays, how long she has played and how much money she has gotten for playing she should be waaaay better than she is

plus not is she "not the greatest drummer in the world" but she's not even close to average, she's where most people would be after a few months of playing

  • piss off man,she is the preserve of less is more-i bet you like Joey Joridison or thomas lang?

id love her to be my drummer :-)

  • i'm not even really into drums and to be honest i don't have a damn clue who the names you mentioned are. but listen to "girl you have no faith in medicine". the song could sound so much better with some drums that actually went along with what jack's doing. and i dont think she should be hacking away at the drums as fast as possible, i can't stand when the drums just dominate songs.

  • Be careful not to confuse less is more with ameteurish, sloppy, simplicity...I mean, yeah, you dont have to be Neil Pert, but one should at least strive to be better than meg white!

  • you and killing time are a pair of dicks

  • Just like joke white is terrible at guitar!= crappy music=crappy band! AMEN

  • jack white not be playing impossible to play licks but the fact is he's a good song writer. all his stuff is so catchy. like seven nation army? as a guitar player i cant even begin to wrap my head around how no one came up with that line before or used it to nearly the same extend,

  • Yeah, 7 nat. is about the only one, the rest aren't that distinct, or memorable,..he got lucky.. I have a few songs that are pretty fucking catchy. Also that song, (7 n) isn't nearly as cool as say, Satifaction, Rebel Rebel, or Day Tripper. infact it's catchy, but kind of annoying, like the macarena

  • i really don't think you've give the stripes older first few albums a good enough of listen if you think none of their other songs aren't distinct. what about "we're going to be friends", "broken bricks", "fell in love with a girl", and "cannon"?

i mean if you just said that you just plain dont care for the white stripes that would be fine and understandable. but to say jack white is a joke is just plain wrong

  • also i skimmed through some of your favorites to see if there were any stripes songs i could recommend to you and really i dont understand how you can think jack white is a joke if you like danzig and the new york dolls

  • you guys are dicks

  • danzig is a joke

  • Because david Johansen, and Danzig both have amazing, deep, gritty voices. Their voices are on par with like, Jim Morrison, Elvis Presley, or Joe cocker. Joke's voice is all screetchy. The Stripes should also get a bass player....I dont know man I just think they got a lot of lucky hype. I could see them being like, a local novelty act that people could respect, but they're certainly not worthy of the praise they get, and playing with the Stones etc.

  • Kings of Leon got a lot of "lucky hype" when they started and went on to do Because Of The Times, which is to this day, one of the best albums i've ever heard. Give them a chance, The Stripes just need to find themselves.

What i said makes absolutely no sense.

    Forget it...

  • kings of leon, hah now theres a band that got popular because they're hot little skkinny boys in skinny genes and 80s/70s clothes. the music is devoid of anything worth a shit and goes like this,"duh, duh, duh,....nuh,,duh." 'they're so cute.

Guns n Roses, now there's a real band! if you wanna talk about bands from this new era the Strokes are the only good one.

  • lol no offence you are living in the past and dont have a clue about music. im not saying guns n roses are shit, but evrybodys heard of them and no ones wants t listen to them who listening who listen to indie, and to say kings of leon are rubbish and got popular because they are cute and where skinny jeans is bullshit. they were agreat band untill recently they got popular because the new album fucking pop/rock which a lot of people who listen to this kinda stuff are pissed at, screw ur g n r

  • I bet I can name 20 "indie " bands that you've never heard of, that probably cream your pants over just cause they have beards or mustaches and tight pants, but play one crap power chord with no hook. Sounds like your one of those douches that only likes bands if, "no ones heard of them" most music that people haven't heard of is that way for a reason: it sucks. P.S. I saw kings of leon live in 2004, when I was 21, I left to go drink in the bar.
