JACKIE!!!! dude im still strivin to play like you bro. im gettin on dat ole school man. gospel aint cuttin it no moe!! Jackie is the greatest yall in case yall didnt know!! peace!!!
Thank you so much! I'm glad that I was able to help spark your interest in playing again!! That's why I do what I do...not for the money...the money is a bonus! Being able to impact others' lives is so gratifying!
Just like athletes that really love their sport, most of us would do it for free! :-) (I think) hahaha!
I hope to post more clips soon...maybe some of my sessions in the studio here at home. That should be interesting AND funny to watch!! :-)
Hey thanks bro!! I appreciate the comment!! Check out the cd,"Here,My Dear" by Marvin Gaye...that's where this song comes from!!!! Just tried to keep that same vibe of the original song. 4 string p-bass and flatwounds! hahaha!
Actually this is from 'I Want You' the song is called 'Come and Live with me Angel' the album was originally an idea from super producer Leon Ware, who wanted Marvin to as they would say 'Marvinize it' it was released in 1976. A very erotic album and mature as well. This album is an prime example "GROWN FOLKS MUSIC!"
You know what, you're absolutely right! I guess I was a little anxious that someone was inquiring about Marvin...it's amazing that a lot people still are clueless when it comes to his music.
The rest of the night featured songs from the Here,My Dear CD.That's probably why I answered the question wrong.haha Thanks for the correction!
Whats the lick you do at :59? I can't see how it's possible that you're hitting that low B after doing the slide and can't figure it out for the life of me...lol
Wassup Jeremy, how are you? I'm actually playing a B on the g string and G on the d string with an open A on the bottom. If you look closely,I'm playing a 4 string! :-) It happens,I do that all the time! Don't feel bad!! hahaha! Hope that helps!
No problem bro!!! If you wanna hear the full version of the original, stop by iTunes and download,"Come Live With Me",by Marvin Gaye off the "Here,My Dear" cd.I'm basically copying what he played.
I was probably going thru the house too. He's just probably using the amp for a monitor. And the reason the drums sound so loud is because typically the bass is located right next to the drums on stage so that they can have a tight groove. I guarantee it sounds much different to the audience.
J Sutton is exactly right!! I was using the amp solely as my monitor.I like for the engineer to EARN his money!! haha! I don't play loud onstage at all! People sometimes complain that I play too low but that's what their monitors are for.If you turn the bass amp too loud, you can kill the mix out front! Make a note of that please!!
Wow. Interesting atmosphere and groove going on in this video. Pretty mellow and pleasant playing man! What do you like about that Lakland? By the way the whole band was impressive. Is that some Gaye's tune or your own? Thanks for posting this! Fine tribute!

Crank it up next time bro, bass was the core of motown - need more volume, the drums are overpowering you...

Thanks for the comments my friend...I really appreciate that!
I like the Lakland P-bass because it has the old Fender sound(I have flatwound strings on it for the James Jamerson,Motown sound! :-)
The song is actually one of Marvin Gaye's early cd's..It's a great grooving song for bassplayers!!If I can remember the name I'll send it to you.
Take care,
Jackie
p.s.-I see that you're in Finland...Played the Pori Jazz Fest in 2004!! Had a great time there!! Beautiful country!!!

Ok! Thank you very much from the answers!
Yes, thank you! What was the band you were playin' in in Pori Jazz? :P
Keep on bass playing man!
BarraEdinazzu 4 years ago
I played the Pori festival with neo-soul artist,Angie Stone in July 2004...
The name of the Marvin Gaye song is "Come Live With Me" on the
"Here,My Dear" album/cd. This cd was not as popular because it didn't get much radio time but it was a great record!!
jcsgroove 4 years ago
Ok.
Thanks from that information! Must hear the original version somewhere..
By the way, i watched some other of your videos and they are great too! That's the playing we need to see here in youtube :)
Carry on..
