why is speed of light constant (186,000 miles persec) does it have anything to do with the size and mass of the Sun? If the Sun had larger mass, would it affect/change the speed of light?
i get confused at the beam coming out of the ship. why doesnt it move faster? if someone threw the baseball off the truck wouldnt it go faster then someone throwing it standing still
@93atlee If someone threw a baseball off a truck it would have a different velocity than a baseball thrown standing still. The reason the light coming out of the moving ship doesn't go faster than the ship at rest is because light moves at light speed to all observers. It is a property of light. If the ships launched missiles than the moving ship would have launched a faster missile. But light does not have the same property of movement. Light ALWAYS moves at light speed. Relative to everything.
The theory of relativity doesn't explain why the speed of light is constant in all reference frames. The fact that the speed of light is constant in all reference frames is simply observed reality. Every time we have ever measured the speed of light it has been the same, regardless of how fast the source and observer are moving relative to each other. So relativity isn't about whether or why light is constant, it's about how to understand the world given that light is constant.
This video explained it very well to me, the only thing i don't get is why the speed of light is constant, and doesn't appear to change relative to movement.
