  • i enjoyed this vid

  • love the video really good

  • I just want to know how quickly this can take me to Kepler 22B...

  • Using rotation you'll need to go with the spin of the galaxy then go against it..do this accouple of times and you'll be going real fast... In system travel is ralitive to the system you are in... The catylist of all of this is a rail gun launch system...(stargate)...Next you'll need megneticly attach your ship to another. you can do this by being possitivly charged or negivitly charged.. This would be all the rail road of space..

  • A physicist getting nerds to laugh. In the world of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

  • @EagleSlightlyBetter You jess mad cause he stylin on you.

  • haha i love how he ends it "now, if your like my wife"

  • ... they've gone plaid!

  • Anyone name one "scientist" that believes in intergalactic space travel for humans that has ever earned a thin dime honestly in the private sector and isn't completely dependent on Government welfare (i.e. federal subsidy or BS grant money) ? ?

  • @roscoe85cj Ironic that you chose to use a medium developed in part by "BS grant money" to send your message out from the flat earth universe. Science is poorly funded in the USA as it is thanks to ignorant politicians spewing populist misinformation about where our tax dollars go.

  • Lol during a Star Trek convention, Stephen Hawking walked past the warp drive and said "I'm working on it." LMFAO

  • @dycarbon1 I think he rolled past it, actually.

  • A pulsed warp drive can be done without any exotic matter nor any negative energy nor any energy condition violations, just ordinary electromagnetic radiation. see

  • It's the naysayers and conservatives who hold humanity back. Even most scientists today are as egocentric as the ancient geocentric Greek philosophers. One major prerequisite of interstellar space travel is the unity of mankind. Many say even that is impossible, but actually it is inevitable. Once we put our differences aside, realize we are one family, and actually start working together, the impossible will become possible. And the naysayers of today will find themselves the fools of tomorrow.

  • @TheDenverOne hm, we dont have to be a family to continue to progress in science... We just need to have enough tolerance not to kill everything... that would be enough... just a little tolerance and luck... and the rest will be interstellar history...

  • Funniest scientist ever.

  • @UnknownXV I dunno, I've found most of the teachers I've had in my post-secondary class to be pretty funny people. Intelligence and a good sense of humour seem go hand-in-hand.

  • is negative energy basically anti-matter?

  • @akaslex

Matter is a form of energy... so, it can be.

  • @akaslex No, anit-matter is just matter with an opposite charge and spin. Negative matter would have negative mass.

  • Miguel Alcubierre proved it can be done!

  • all you need is an anti matter warp drive

  • Imagine if warp drive was possible...Id love to see it as a reality!

  • @charger19691 Anything is possible with a tech called high energy applications. We just need a different power source and all doors will open.

  • @teemuruskeepaa Good luck with that. Even regular space programs refuse to use nuclear reactors for space-based applications. A compact molten-salt reactor would have done wonders for the ISS but NOOOOO... they HAD to rely on lame solar panels! Get nuclear reactors up in space and start using plasma drives. The technology is already there. Further progress can be built up from there onwards.

  • @pundek123 I guess you're right, it is zealous anti-nuclear policies. But what if it crashes into the atmosphere and causes a nuclear fallout?

  • What's even worse, what if they can't keep the reactors and fuel out of the hands of TERRORISTS!?!?

  • @pundek123 The developemtn of nuclear security devices for detection or the development of the class structure with egalitarian values, are the two prequisites of orbital nuclear proliferation. Anyone could build a spaceship and scavenge nuclear fuel and reactors in the orbit. Nuclear terrorism just takes one airport with radioactive pollution. Not that I do not hate Bush's war against terrorism.

  • @charger19691 A mexican physicist has managed to prove that it is possible to travel faster then light. we just have to wait for the engineering to catch up with theory.

  • Warp drive is the acceleration of spacetime around the ship by exploiting general and special relativity. The acceleration is achieved by using a deterium based particle accelerator.

  • So you're discrediting the whole idea just because it isn't like it is in Star Trek?

  • no im not...im just saying he's not fuly aware how the star trek engines work...i didn't say his 'version' wasn't possible...but hes confusing two different things...

  • No that's exactly what you're saying. You called the man an idiot because his idea was not like it is in Star Trek.

The right response is "Very good concept, but the Enterprise uses this kind of warp drive." Instead you came back with "LOL MORON."

  • @filigrant I'm sure he is aware, as in aware that NOTHING in the show would actually work. They have people walking up to a reactor that be putting out so much radiation you would have to have it 5 miles away from the ship. They have windows on a spaceship, the decks or set up like a space aircraft carrier when they should be like a rocket etc. etc... The most realistic starship ever put on film was the one in Avatar.

  • no im not...but he is dicrediting the star trek idea just because he thinks its not a viable option (just because physics today has not enough to understand any kind of warp travel fully...there are always gaps...even in star trek)

  • You make it sound like the show is a documentary. There is nothing to understand "fully", as there is no such thing as a no warp drive. The explanation given for warp on star trek isn't a real theory, nor is it meant to be -- it's a plot device, plain and simple. Drawing inspiration from it is perfectly acceptable, but to try to base real technology on the exact schematics used in the show is going to get you nowhere.

  • @filigrant Dude, star trek gets so many things wrong I don't even know where to start... it's just a show.

  • He's a scientist, he's proposing a possible mechanism for the technology. Perhaps the method you describe is impractical and what he describes fits better with currently known science.

  • Did you just call Laurence Krauss an idiot?

Takes all sorts here on youtube....

  • @gavbag1234 birth control is also quality control. stopping mistakes before they start.

  • @filigrant First, what you described for warp speed is not canon and is therefore not accepted. Second, Dr. Krauss is a reknowned physicist who has written dozens of books. He has always watched every single episode of every single Trek series and all the movies. If you think he's an idiot, in comparison you are pond scum. I won't bother arguing science with you as it's clear you don't know science from your ass.

  • Wow, so if you where alive when the Wright brothers did their first test flight you would be the guy standing where they landed yelling "BURN THEM AT THE STEAK!!! THEIR WITCHES!!!!" because flying isnt possible is it?

  • Oh wow, I have to make a dumbed-down speech, and I got most of my information from Professor Krauss, right here!

Amazingly, I came up with an idea to use the same visual aid as he's using: a balloon with a stripe on it. O_O

    COOL!

  • its true. its all based on manipulating electromagnetism and controlling matter,

  • so the ship initializes the warp pulse and the enertial dampers keep you from becoming apart of the wall, but why do the star trek engines need to continuiously keep pulsing/ once at light speed there is no friction to stop the ship. unless they are fighting a solar wind .

  • "but why do the star trek engines need to continuiously keep pulsing/ once at light speed there is no friction to stop the ship. unless they are fighting a solar wind ."

Because the warp engines create and maintain the warp field. The warp field is a bubble in which the ship can go faster than light. If the engine stops functioning, the warp field vanishes and therefore the ship drop out of warp. That's why the engines never stop functioning while at warp.

  • If everyone had your mentality, we wouldn't have flight. The key to inventing a new technology is believing it could happen, and then look for ways to make it happen. Warp drives may not be possible in the end, but we won't know unless we try.

  • I'm aware of the whole "impossible to travel past light speed" dilemma and how fast objects become infinitly massive. I'm also aware of private funded space programs since I have an uncle in that area. I'm just saying we shouldn't give up looking for possibilities.

  • Science is all about exploring the mysterious and seemingly impossible. We may later discover that our understanding of these physics was wrong which may lead to knew technology, or perhaps we will find something we simply didn't equate or see before. Part of scientific development is the realiziation of our ignorance in certain areas, this allows us to progress further toward what is RIGHT.

If science limited itself to your narrow minded type of thinking we wouldn't get anywhere.

  • I guess you dweefs who are hyper-dependent upon WELFARE to play spaceman instead of cops & robbers don't recognize the limitations imposed by the speed of light and the impossibility of obtaining such. .. none of us 'narrow minded" types give a rats ass what you do so long as you do it WITH PRIVATE FUNDING, not the trillions of my/our hard earned money by way of TAXES....

  • Yea we don't need your tax money from working at Mcdonalds loser.

Besides, developing technology costs money, Ideas are FREE. Good thing you aren't a scientist because you would never discover a damn thing with your retarded attitude.

There is still A LOT to be discovered in the field of science/physics and so much more to learn about our universe, I can't wait!

  • None of us will see that technology come around we'll all be dead. Jesus you just proved what a complete numbskull you are. You obviously understand very little about science to be commenting in the first place, hell I'd be surprised if your dumb ass graduated highschool!

Yea right I make plenty of money on my own, it's dumb asses like you that end up losing your job and needing unemployment.

Man go get a fuckin education if you're able to pull your head out of your ass for one second.

  • The caps LOL followed by retarded slang like "dweef" just proved you are some retarded 15 year old troll with a very limited education. Congrats on being low life bottom of the barrel scum!

  • Haha you fail booster, I scrape scum like you offf my shoes daily, get the dick out of your ass and get back to your job at Mcdonald, that's if you can clean the cum out of your ears and stop suckin your dads dick for 5 seconds you inbred piece of shit. Lmao!

  • you must have missed your mom's post ..

    here's a cut & paste for ya then --- >>

PICK UP YOUR ROOM GOD DAMNIT ! !

(how's that life estate working out on the basement bedroom anyway ??) haa ha ha

  • @roscoe85cj You don't get it.The 'limitations' imposed by the speed of light which you referred to (relativity) wouldn't apply here. That's why Alcubierre makes theoretical sense, because it doesn't violate relativity. The ship would not be moving at all;it would be inside a bubble of normal space, with the space expanding &contracting behind&front. The reason the ship would be able to withstand such speed is because it wouldnt even have to..it isn't actually going at that speed or even moving.

  • I know I'm thinking ahead here but after the technology is created to make warp drive possible aren't you still stuck with the inconvenience that there'll be lots of moving objects in space that would collide with your ship -- objects that you wouldn't be able to dodge because the ship's going so fast you don't even know what's coming and what could hit you and potentially make your toast?

  • who knows there are different ideas on space travel, check out wormholes. Jumping from one point in space instantly to another we wouldn't even need a warp drive, just a vessel that could traverse it.

I think fundementally we need to work on ships that can sustain very long periods in space before we look to distant travels.

  • Yes, perhaps the wormhole loophole is our best bet.

  • @poolerboy0077

Sorry for replying 7 months from the original post, but there is this thing called a "deflector" that is on the front of the ship. As the name suggests, it deflects object, but not in the way you think. Thanks to the (negative) energy bubble the ship is in, anything outside could be warped as much as you'd like, meaning you can go through a whole star without melting. Just make a tunnel through it with the warped space, then undo it once you're on the other side. Voila!

  • @Neso906 You would have to compress the space in front of the ship and expand it behind, which means you would blow the star apart and the ship with it.

  • @poolerboy0077 lol that was my first thought as well... and the answer is .. no that wouldn't be a problem. The ship wouldn't be moving at all. It's, literally, space that would be moving. So no, collision wouldn't be a risk.

  • my god its possible!!!!

  • in order to expand the space behind the spacecraft you have to fill up the space with negative energy. THANKYOU for explaining how negative energy works with the warp drive because none of the other examples I have seen do.

  • Science wins.

  • anybody knows why it's called warp drive? cause i't "warps" space!

  • Alcubierre drive

  • Chesstick, the only thing that you've made clear is that you're just a hateful, petty, jealous person.

  • "This guy is a total simpleton. He only got his job because he is Jewish. "

    Are you a bigot too?

  • "why can't we all just get along?"

Why? Simple, you are obnoxious. You insulted the people I worked with for 32 years who do their jobs and are a service to people. You insulted me and tried to degrade the work I did for over 30 years. I worked to help protect children for much of the time. You want to know why we just can't get along? Apologize or go to hell!

  • This dumbfuck just showed his hand with his mention of "satanic". lol How deliciously ironic that someone that believes such superstitious shit calls someone ELSE a simpleton lol

  • this is why I am glad I am beginning my studies into physics. Facinsating stuff

  • I read this guy's book years ago. Great stuff...

  • very informative. thanks for posting. id like to see the whole thing though.
