What camera are you using to shoot this video? I'm impressed at how well it pick up the sound and is really crisp. Been havign a hard time finding a camera that will pick up loud open header runs without distorting the sound. Nice sounding FE by the way! Thanks-Dan
@papabugs71 don't listen to the haters. the 427 cammer is a pure race breed motor built to beat Hemi. If its was such a bad engine according to those who think they know better then why was CRYsler so intent on banning it. It was never meant to be a street engine due to way it produced its power. It remained up until recently the most powerful car gasoline production engine ever built. Reliable came with development as with ALL engines, considering it made 616hp stage 1 & 657hp stage2 STANDARD
@papabugs71 You mean that glorified crate engine that Ford made....yes ,I,ve heard of it....I,ve also heard that it was unreliable, and wouldn,t have had the durability for an oval track engine....It may have had its moments in drag racing, but the 426 Chrysler Hemi is the best v8 engine ever built....one last question...if the Cammer was such a good engine..why didn,t ford keep making them?
@68bobba lol. The reason they quit building them was due to the fact the bitches at Chrysler & NASCAR blacklisted them. Ford had no reason to continue building the 427SOHC as it was a true factory race engine. Not a mass produced engine like the 426. Ford, unlike Chrysler & its 426, didn't need the Cammer to boost sales. (Ouch).
@papabugs71 You need to check your info mate....the real reason Ford stopped making Cammers was they were expensive and unreliable....So Chrysler only made the 426 Hemi to boost sales huh?...where,d you get that bullshit from?.....Chrysler made the 426 Hemi to win Daytona(which it did)...they also made factory race engines which were as good as the Cammer....
@papabugs71 BTW ,ever hear of the A-925 DOHC 426 Hemi...thats the real reason the Cammer was blacklisted....Chrysler told NASCAR that if Ford used the Cammer they were going to use the A-925...after that happened (the Cammer being banned) Chrysler dropped the A-925 project...LOL
@68bobba A925?! The electric hemi? LOL. Are you serious? Even the guys at Chrysler said it was a FAKE, meant to impress Bill France into banning Ford’s SOHC engine. YOU need to check YOUR info my friend. Mine was taken from the book "We Were the Ramchargers". Good reading if you're so inclined. There was NO SUCH THING AS THE A925. Even the guys that were in the middle of it all in 1964 said it was a ploy by Chrysler aimed at Bill France. I need to check my info? PLEASE!
@papabugs71 The source of my info is an article about Richard Petty and NASCAR racing(check it out on Allpar.com)in one section of the article which says"Ford kicked up a fuss about not being able to run their overhead cam 427 top oiler in anything but a large weight penalised Galaxie body.Ford claimed that it was putting out 625hp.Nascar did not change their ruling. To emphasise what he said Bill France visited both Ford & Chrysler engine plants
@papabugs71 Ford showed him the huge ,overhead cam V8.He just said no.When he got to Chryslers factory he saw that the 426 racing Hemi had been changed to enable it to be a normal street application engine. He also saw Chryslers answer to the Ford overhead cam engine.Chrysler had a dohc 426ci V8.It was a monster. It had already turned over 800hp in factory tests. He took one look at the engine and said it would not race at Nascar, neither would the Cammer"....unquote
@papabugs71 quote unquote, does this guys have anything straight?
"ever hear of the A-925 DOHC 426 Hemi...thats the real reason the Cammer was blacklisted....Chrysler told NASCAR that if Ford used the Cammer they were going to use the A-925...after that happened (the Cammer being banned) Chrysler dropped the A-925 project".
Well that must be the FACTORY TESTED 800HP MONSTER ELECTRIC MOTOR ...lmao
@fiftyknots lol. I hear ya. The bottom line is Chrysler was so scared of this engine, they had to come up with a farce like the non-existant A-925 to even be in the same room as the Cammer guys. Let alone build one & start testing it.
@papabugs71 yes you are on the money. The Cammer is real.
Some Hemi fans unfortunately can not appreciate it which is ashame because they have some legendary engines themselves. Its awesome that Ford made the Cammer and also went on to develop other classic V8s.
@fiftyknots Try reading the article dickhead...thats what it says....Ford couldn,t make a pushrod V8 to compare with the Chrysler 426,so they built the Cammer...odd how the 426 race Hemi makes the same HP as the Cammer
@68bobba1 geez Bobba you sure get hot under the collar about this Cammer engine, you must feel threatened.
We just find it funny that you make those statements and didnt realise the "a-925" was a fake, ...you did write it remember. your pretty sensitive for Chrysler dude.
@fiftyknots Threatened by what?....depending on which article you read its either fake or true...being a Chrysler fan,I,d tend to believe it...the only people who would know for sure are the ones involved....as for being sensitive,I was just stating a fact...you Ford fans should be thankful for the Hemi..if it wasn,t for that, you wouldn,t have the Cammer or the Boss 429...pity Ford never made a mild street Cammer...then we would have seen who was really the best
@68bobba1 threatened by the Cammer thats what, you seem very defensive for the glory of the Hemi, which there is no need. I've read other comments you've made elsewhere and its the way you come across.
@68bobba1 Dude, I'm not a expert on every engine designed,built/manufactured,but
Cadillac produced the first mass production V8. FORD flathead were perhaps the first use of a hemispherical head on a readily available American V8.First offered in 1947 as an aftermarket product, these heads converted the Ford flathead to overhead valves operating in a hemispherical chamber. (thankful for all that?) "thankful for the Hemi"???, As for the best ,well as long as its V8 BB its cool.
@fiftyknots Been reading up on wikipedia mate?....I never said Chrysler invented the Hemi(1904 Welch 4 cylinder first Hemi car engine)...but they perfected it...both the Cammer and the Boss 429 were Fords attempt to match the Chrysler 426...so what I said was true...
@68bobba1 wikipedia for sure mate, like i said I'm no expert, you must read it too, to know. It was never implied Chrysler invented Hemi, more so that where do we start to appreciate the V8 itself. Yes, 426 is awesome engine and so is the Cammer.
@fiftyknots yes I get a lot from Wiki, but my main source of info on the Hemi is a book by Robert Genat called "Hemi, the ultimate American V8"...couldn,t agree more regarding the Cammer and the Hemi...It took Chrysler nearly a year to adapt the Hemi head to the 426 Wedge block, while Ford made the Cammer in 3 months...old school engineering at its best
@68bobba1 yeh I dont think they will. Forced induction is everywhere nowdays and gaining more popularity in mass produced cars. Naturally aspirated V8s these days have less impact unless they too go down the s/c or turbo road.
@fiftyknots There,s nothing worse than seeing a classic Muscle car like a Charger,Mustang,Camaro etc with an engine bay full of turbo plumbing and bullshit...give me a BB and twin 4barrels or Six pack set up...as for modern performance cars,I wouldn,t have one
Check this dude "Chrysler alumnus and historian (of The Ramchargers) David Rockwell told Mopar Action that the A925 engine was a fake — a completely nonfunctional piece meant to impress Bill France into banning Ford’s SOHC engine (Stewart Pomeroy agreed). The one engine was run by an electric motor. The story goes that Chrysler racing chief Ronnie Householder learned about the ban from Bill France, and the engine was then destroyed.
Thanks for putting this up for us to remember what we used to have. For me, it was a 66 Cyclone factory lightweight with a medium riser side oiler. I fished it out of a back yard in Fresno back in the late 70s. Car was lost in a fire.
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree
i LOVE this! nothing makes that sound like american big blocks....i've got a 390 that's in pieces on my shop floor getting ready to go back in my 66 galaxie. wish i had the 427 (or better yet, the 427SOHC.)
I like this! That setup you have the motor mounted to is awesome. And FE engines are awesome! FE engines are the lightest weight of any and all big-blocks made by Ford or anybody else. The Ford 429 and chev 396/427/454 weigh over 100 pounds more than a Ford FE. And the FE engine's bottom end is stronger than the others especially with cross-bolt mains.
Yeah! The FE is just the best V-8, period! And that's all there is to it. Hell! When my Dodge Caravan grows up, I want to put an FE in it! Lol!
It would be nice if all the 427's in those Camaros and Vettes were Fords...it would be revenge for all those people who put small block Chevies in old Ford cars.
Your right Headcase, I plan to do just that. Got a built 428 going into a 55 chevy this spring. Stay tuned here for some pictures around May. Sweet revenge!!!
Amen Brotha. I do love old Vettes, and I'm considering a late 70's/early 80's smogger to jackhammer a snotty 429 big block Ford into. I wonder how the famous Vette halfshafts will like that kind of abuse.
@headcase01 Do it, Bro! It will serve all of those god damn bowtie a**holes right! It really irritates me to see a GD Shitrolay engine in a beautiful Ford car.
I would be a bit concerned about that oil pressure jumping around. Also its pretty high. I would rather see a steady 45 PSI rather than that 80+ it can actually wash out the bearings. THere were lots of oiling secrets on those motors, especially when running solid lifters.
Any Ford Hi performance engine stock cast iron headers are worth money. THey need to be factory Hi-Po castings though. 302 Boss, 351C 4bbl, 429 Cobra-jet, 390GT,427, 428CJ
I saw a sick ass like older cobra today with a 427 in it and he was explaing me that this moter is verrrrrrrrry rare that ford made for the nascar is what he said. He said they were made hand made. and quit explensive. i want to put one of these moters in a sand rail and whoop on the LS7 lol
all 332,352 , 406, 410, 427 ,428 car engines . 330,352,359, 361,391 truck are fe engine design engines all ! like windsor , cleveland design are just a moniker .kinda like fox body ; mustang ,fairmont , zephyr , mk 7 lincoln , 79 & up rear wheel drive capris that look similar to mustang ! what intake is on that 427 ? supposed to be aluminum , ! i ran a 390+.040 for 2 years with a single 4 intake off a 427 that was aluminum as it had a ford part number on it . 2-4 425 hp 1-4 410 hp stock
that's the engine that should go in a cobra kit car to be correct. i can imagine it....the horsepower from the correct engine with a new fiverglass body with a suspension better than original. that would indeed be nice.
sorry i screwd up i do have a sohc but not in the LTD it's just sitting in the shed trying to by a 67 mustang to put it in. i have a 427 FE in my ltd washington county sheriff department order 7 crusiers with 390fe to be bored out so i happen to have a 427FE from the factory that way sorry for the mistake in INFO
i'm not putting a video of it either it doesn't run and i don't want eamils left and right about it my dad gave it to me when i turned 16 i don't know where he got it
I have a '76 F-250 4x4 with 9000 original miles but it only has the 300 inline six.I would love to have the money to put something like this in it.Even a 390 or 460 but they're never cheap.
390's are usually fairly abundant in junkyards across the us, i have 4 of these blocks in my garage 1 complete short block that is 13 years old and spent 3 years of its life on the strip bracket racing, stock 390 in a 76 stepside f-100 and it ran 12.76 in the quarter, now i am building a 390 block 60 over with a 428 crank from eagle, for a total of 416 cubes, and i manage to put valves in the stock heads that spec out bigger than 460 valves with a serious port and polish, port matched to intake
Absolutely love it. Now if only my 66 galaxie 352 were a 2 door instead of a 4 door... I would love to have a 66 fairlane or another 66 galaxie two door with one of them and a 4spd turning the wheels. Catch me if you can!
GREAT engine,,!! I am a 427 fan and have a few,I would suggest painting it the proper color{black} and getting correct valve covers before you install it. The long tube headers are to die for, your lucky to have those, thanks for the thrill,Tim
lol ohhhhhh kk lolsorry yea dumb ass me lol jkjk i get confused typing fast yea the 429 is the same block there jus a differnt stroke or sumthing like that right
The 427 FE shown here kicked butt in NASCAR during the mid '60s. During Daytona in '63 the hot motor early on was the GD Chevy 427 "Mystery Motor." But the bow tie boys had one major problem with their engine-it wouldn't stay together for a full race. Especially the 500. When the checkered flag finally dropped on the 500 Tiny Lind in the Wood Brothers' No. 21 led a grand and glorious parade of five 427-powered Ford Galaxies across the finish line. Ford finished 1-2-3-4-5. Stick it, Chevy!
Awesome example of AMERICAN made BigBlock firebreathing torque monster engine nostalgia in it's truest stock reliable state.Hope you nest it in a KIRKHAM AC COBRA or Galaxie,Stang,or Thunderbolt.Long live the BigBlock FE!Global Warming is a crock of shit!
I wouldn't say the hemi cars were faster - they were considerably heavier than the 427. Considering performance potential, I think they both have that - just the hemi parts are quite cheaper chan the Ford parts which helped make them a quick takeoff in drag racing.
Well, they're right up there with each other if you ask me. The 427 has crossbolt mains that'll allow 7000 rpm, and make 425hp stock. A stock hemi redlines around 6-6500 rpm and makes 433hp. They're pretty much right in the same neighborhood.
What camera are you using to shoot this video? I'm impressed at how well it pick up the sound and is really crisp. Been havign a hard time finding a camera that will pick up loud open header runs without distorting the sound. Nice sounding FE by the way! Thanks-Dan

im a big ford fan but i was wondering how come there are 427's in some camaro's and corvette's i thought the 427 was a ford motor???
supersmrf 2 years ago
Ford and Chevy 427's are completely different designs that just have the same displacement. Google images and you can see how different they are.
headcase01 2 years ago
thanx a lot
supersmrf 2 years ago
It would be nice if all the 427's in those Camaros and Vettes were Fords...it would be revenge for all those people who put small block Chevies in old Ford cars.
headcase01 2 years ago 13
Your right Headcase, I plan to do just that. Got a built 428 going into a 55 chevy this spring. Stay tuned here for some pictures around May. Sweet revenge!!!
cmongfe 2 years ago
Amen Brotha. I do love old Vettes, and I'm considering a late 70's/early 80's smogger to jackhammer a snotty 429 big block Ford into. I wonder how the famous Vette halfshafts will like that kind of abuse.
headcase01 2 years ago
@headcase01 Do it, Bro! It will serve all of those god damn bowtie a**holes right! It really irritates me to see a GD Shitrolay engine in a beautiful Ford car.

ford and chevy have a 427 engine
GundamKnight07 2 years ago
Those cast headers would fetch a lot of $
I would be a bit concerned about that oil pressure jumping around. Also its pretty high. I would rather see a steady 45 PSI rather than that 80+ it can actually wash out the bearings. THere were lots of oiling secrets on those motors, especially when running solid lifters.
666smokeskull 2 years ago
i have cast header on my 70 LTD how much would they be worth
GundamKnight07 2 years ago
Any Ford Hi performance engine stock cast iron headers are worth money. THey need to be factory Hi-Po castings though. 302 Boss, 351C 4bbl, 429 Cobra-jet, 390GT,427, 428CJ
666smokeskull 2 years ago
I saw a sick ass like older cobra today with a 427 in it and he was explaing me that this moter is verrrrrrrrry rare that ford made for the nascar is what he said. He said they were made hand made. and quit explensive. i want to put one of these moters in a sand rail and whoop on the LS7 lol
CrossmanM 2 years ago
it may have been the 427 SOHC hemi. they are far more rare than a regular FE.
I never realized how much more mass the SOHC has compared to the FE. I feel like i could close the hood and walk around inside with this engine.
waterkeeper03 2 years ago
that is sick :) now i need to find some headers for my 390 that will fit right... not the truck ones that are shaped wrong ye knows (68 mercury)
TheQueefnugget 2 years ago
all 332,352 , 406, 410, 427 ,428 car engines . 2-4 425 hp 1-4 410 hp stock
crownv80 2 years ago
that's the engine that should go in a cobra kit car to be correct. i can imagine it....the horsepower from the correct engine with a new fiverglass body with a suspension better than original. that would indeed be nice.

i thought the FE was for ford FE Block "iron block". FE meaning IRON from the table of elements...
NP535overdrive 2 years ago
NOPE
kblackav8or 2 years ago
@kblackav8or , prove it...
NP535overdrive 2 years ago
It aint because FE is in the periodic table as IRON. Ford Edsel is much more likely.

Coyober 2 years ago
I have a '76 F-250 4x4 with 9000 original miles but it only has the 300 inline six.I would love to have the money to put something like this in it.Even a 390 or 460 but they're never cheap.
70goldtop 2 years ago 2
390's are usually fairly abundant in junkyards across the us, i have 4 of these blocks in my garage 1 complete short block that is 13 years old and spent 3 years of its life on the strip bracket racing, stock 390 in a 76 stepside f-100 and it ran 12.76 in the quarter, now i am building a 390 block 60 over with a 428 crank from eagle, for a total of 416 cubes, and i manage to put valves in the stock heads that spec out bigger than 460 valves with a serious port and polish, port matched to intake

pinkxstar21 2 years ago
oh sorry FE not FI
i read about FE engines before a minutes ago ford edsel
so this is the rarest right?
is it stock??
al3id 2 years ago
FE doesn't stand for Ford Edsel, it stands for Ford Engine.
Coyober 2 years ago
That depends on who you ask. I have numerous factory Ford shop manuals & TSB's from the 60's & 70's & many of them call the FE a Ford-Edsel.
Im not talking about the FT or MEL engines either.
papabugs71 2 years ago
awsome you have this rare motor
is it stock??cam or heads?
FE mean fuel injected did you do carb swap?
al3id 2 years ago
are you saying that just the 427's are rare or all f.e's?
mudboy59 2 years ago
The 427 is rare. Most fe stuff now is rare. The older it gets the harder it is to find these parts. There is nothing like the 427 though!
Galaxiefever 2 years ago
it is a nice motor, i have a 360 in my f100, its a project for my first truck, what are you putting yours in?
mudboy59 2 years ago
I'm putting it in a 64 Galaxie. I drag race it once in a while. Right now I have a 390 in it. If you look I have a 390 running on you tube also.
Galaxiefever 2 years ago
nice, thats a sweet car, what hp/trq is the 427 putting out?

fordboy111591 3 years ago
The 427 FE is a wildly different motor than the 460, you must be thinking of a 429.
duffygrenade 3 years ago
lol ohhhhhh kk lolsorry yea dumb ass me lol jkjk i get confused typing fast yea the 429 is the same block there jus a differnt stroke or sumthing like that right
fordboy111591 3 years ago
The 427 FE shown here kicked butt in NASCAR during the mid '60s. During Daytona in '63 the hot motor early on was the GD Chevy 427 "Mystery Motor." But the bow tie boys had one major problem with their engine-it wouldn't stay together for a full race. Especially the 500. When the checkered flag finally dropped on the 500 Tiny Lind in the Wood Brothers' No. 21 led a grand and glorious parade of five 427-powered Ford Galaxies across the finish line. Ford finished 1-2-3-4-5. Stick it, Chevy!

Hey mopar43v3r we don't think the 427 is better, we know it is better.
kentuckyboi777 3 years ago
no its not lol, just like what eddiesautoworks said, theyre pretty much the same
mopar43v3r 3 years ago
I think it's better, because I'm 100% Ford, but I guess it depends on the application.
eddiesautoworks 3 years ago
stock for stock the 427 is slightly better(even tho hemi cars were faster), but i think the hemi has more of a performance potential.
mopar43v3r 3 years ago
I wouldn't say the hemi cars were faster - they were considerably heavier than the 427. Considering performance potential, I think they both have that - just the hemi parts are quite cheaper chan the Ford parts which helped make them a quick takeoff in drag racing.
eddiesautoworks 3 years ago
great motor, but its funny how the ford guys think its better than the hemi....youre all so funny.
mopar43v3r 3 years ago
Well, they're right up there with each other if you ask me. The 427 has crossbolt mains that'll allow 7000 rpm, and make 425hp stock. A stock hemi redlines around 6-6500 rpm and makes 433hp. They're pretty much right in the same neighborhood.
eddiesautoworks 3 years ago
pretty true.
mopar43v3r 3 years ago
God bless the FE! Thats a great sound!
