As a former messenger this movie is a little embarrassing. Almost getting hit by four buses and PUNCHING someone? Is this guy for real? Terrible portrayal! We all know that couriers (not posers, but actually working as a courier) with flashy track bikes and designer bags are becoming extinct. It is too bad because this an industry that is a sanctuary for people who are generally unemployable and is not McDonald's or changing bed sheets in a cheap motel.
Fail to stop? Check! Fail to turn tightly enough? Check? Getting angry at someone else because you're riding like an idiot so that you can look cool on a video? Triple check!
@bobjones1780 Indeed. as a former courier (albeit many yrs ago) I used to be somewhat proud of it. It was a really great job. Now though, I'm almost embarrassed to mention it and put myself in the same league as all the hipster douche-wanks who define 'bike courier' these days. it just seems it's a magnet for "lifestyle seekers" and posers who, with the downturn in record shops, can't get work anywhere else unless they're willing to take the bolts out of their noses and brush their teeth.
"Now, I certainly have nothing whatsoever against messengers, but I'm not sure I understand the point of making a movie about doing your job really badly."
coiuld you imagine being locked in a house with these douchebags? makes seeing these tools in a theater (straight to video) a little less vomitous. a little. is this for real?
@thelastleroy, according to the couriers themselves, they aren't as responsible as drivers. "Sometimes you just clear out and you're just like, "Whoah," you know, "I almost got hit by four different buses and I punched a jaywalker and almost shit my pants." And this is reiterated by others and their actions. Like nearly hitting a pedestrian and then sideswiping the cab.
@thelastleroy Also there is no demand for the job, clearly. Thus "Murder of Couriers", implying that their livlihoods are being killed off. We have email now.
@thelastleroy What part of any of this was "as responsible as any driver"? People training on bikes, commuting to work, etc. perhaps tend to be responsible when obeying traffic laws, but thanks to this idiotic hipster phenomenon cyclists are now being more disrespected than ever.
@njg2q I'm pretty sure he wasn't blaming him for anything. Apparently what happened is the cab driver got out, said "I'm sorry", the courier said "All good!", and everything was just fine. Why do you people hate all this video so much? It's not like YouTube has suddenly become a participatory Emmy nomination process or something... weird.
@iplaywitgrenades Its a great song but using it here contradicts its meaning, doesn't it? Isn't that a song about negative feelings derived from the things it mentions? Things like "crippled affection", "borrowed mirror connection", and "self-love."
All those things in the song are things this video and 'culture' perpetuates. You don't even know the meaning to the song you seek to reference. Why can't you people get over yourselves and dig a little deeper into things?
Doing what you love is great. Intentionally disrupting traffic, running stop signs and red lights, and doing the million other stupid things that these dumbass hippies do is not.
That guy in the beggining is a douche. You're not a badass.

Can somebody please inform couriers and courier-worshippers that being a courier doesn't somehow make you totally awesome?
It actually makes you kind of lame.
