Yea I like the PD170 cause that's the camera that I'm using as well. I fund the quality comparable to the Betacam Sp camera of mine but I'm not crazy about the lack of focus control. you may want to purchase a 16:9 correction lens.VCL-HG0758

Yea, no. It's not really a wide angle lens. It just corrects the distortion of the caused by the factory 4:3 lens in the 16 x 9 setting. it does how ever say Wide Conversion x0.7 on the rim of the lens.

wow you got a PD-170 :D awesome dude.. thats a great cam, i was going to pick one of them but I decided on the DVX-100b because it films in progressive and has proper widescreen modes. Do you guys use FCP now? I just got a mac and use that.
