There's always one, probably someone ready to shout "FAKE!" or similar. An instructional video such as this, it's difficult to find any fault with it but someone will; their loss really.
@corvette174 the video is about endurance and stamina training for our everyday life, showing possibilities how can you improve in the park next to your house. don't mix it with old shaolin 'movies'. btw, did you train in china? (and yes, i did) you would know sanda is a part of the modern shaolin training. *thanks shifu for posting this video*
@corvette174 Have you ever done either king-fu or UFC? Where's the grappling in this video? And this guy is a genuine monk. This is a fitness video to help prepare you for Shaolin training. Who died and made you an expert?
@MightyRubble 20 years experience training in many Northern and Southern styles.Shaolin Monks don't train like this.He is showing videos of Western training methods and little or none of what makes training in the East so special.But don't take my word for it....just look at his Hollywood physique....created by western training methods and far far away from the body shape of GENUINE monks.That weight and bulk actually SLOWS down technique and limits flexibility.He's lost his roots.
@corvette174 he's short and stocky and doesn't have abs popping out of his skin hence he's no gym-buff. If you watch his DVDs he says he doesn't do weights and you shouldn't because -- as you also correctly pointed out -- it slows you down. And the way he does those jump press-ups, he's got no problem with his explosiveness to weight ratio, that's for sure. His flexibility is also top drawer. You're entitled to your opinion but this guy is a Shaolin Monk and I suggest you're merely uninformed.
Thanks for the incredible, inspirational example, Shifu. And I asked for and received all three of your Shaolin workout DVDs for Christmas, and I'm trying to work through them now. They are no joke -- super difficult but so awesome -- and I'm so grateful that you've shared your knowledge with those of us who have no Shaolin teachers in our area. Keep up the great work!
