I couldn't tell from this video, but in my community, spear is thrust only and it is throwable. Is it the same for you? I recently fell in love with it.
Love Spears. I was thinking about doing sort of a combo boffer weapon set based off a character from Sengoku basara. I was going to go for two spears. But then I figured what if I make the spear tip more of a trident for countering and catching blades. What do you think?
Informal as this is set up, I got a lot more out of this, than other more "martial art" videos of spears vs. swords.
There wasn't as much 100% silly spin-around-do-cartwheels, coreography "flash", where spearmen are explicitly afraid of actual weapon contact with the sword user.
There weren't 50 wideoff fake parried strikes, while a swordman is free to trying "killing" you.
Video actually tries addressing advantages spears have to an extent. I take what's useful I can from it, ty.
your short spears same lenth hilt as my nagimaki but like its coz it has a sword for a blade but unlike the naginata it has a shorter handle so it was nice to get few more batle tips from you again thanks
Hey Will, I have been making boffers for quite awhile now but I've never seen a spear head quite like that one. I was wondering if you could share your expertise with me. And thank you for the tips. Keep up the good work, -BofferNinja
right now I am a state away from my stuff, but when I get back I will be makeing a video on how to make more complay boffers, includinghow to make the edge.
Pure domination with that weapon, I love it! :D But from a weapon geek's point of view, I wouldn't call it a spear if you can slash with it, it's more of a short glaive or guan-do.
that's absolotely not true, the tip of a spear is certaily the primary striking surface but the edges are sharpened on any spear, and they will do quite as much damage as a sword will, perhaps more because of the amazing amount of leverage you can use due to the length of the spear, the reason we think of the spear as only a stabbing weapon is because the slashing application is negated when fighting against armored opponents
I try to do all my lessons on one take. everynow and then I do get lost, and that is what I usually do when I mess up and we cut it...This time I decided ro keep it, so I could keep it going with all one shot.
u seem to know alot about each weapon that one technique that is executed when u pin his sword down and u retreat while cutting him as u ran was pretty intelligent 5 stars
Great lesson! It always amazes me that they are done in one continuous take, no cuts or splices. It tends to make me think that you know what you are talking about. Sir Mikes nods of agreement are fantastic. He tickles me.

hey, this isnt a spear. It's more of a guan do, a spear is a stabbing weapon, this is a slashing weapon with stabbing capabilities

He probably did it in the Ed Hellen style, where he layered equal width strips of camp-pad style foam to created a flat blade style weapon.

Thanks for the vids. They go into the more advanced moves 'practically,' unlike some other training movies...
