I know that Taito was trying to please the nostalgiatards, but they really should have updated the game's graphics? Bubble Bobble Nostalgie, a PC shareware game is a remake of the original with improved graphics and sprites, and that was a 2003 game.
I almost beat the game. I was playing with my cousin, my sister was watching. We had the boss right were we had him, but my cousin died. My sister told me to pop the bubble, but I didn't want to so I waited but when my cousin got out, the boss was pissed. We both lost and the game ended (I had Taito Legends on Xbox)
Well don't get discouraged. Each stage has some sort of "gimmick" that once you understand will let you clear the stage pretty fast, I can't come up with a good example right now, but it takes some getting used to.
The only thing is that Ranking Mode has limited continues. They give you 10 (You get 100,000 points for each one remaining at the end of the mode).
But seriously, I haven't even seriously tried that mode yet. It's 1-Player only in Ranking Mode to compete over Wi-Fi scores, but I'd wait until you know the game down to a T.
For some sad reason, your video is cleared than my Wii looks like on my TV, even with those component cables (since my TV is too "modern" and doesn't do coaxial at all..)
Then again, this video is not in as big format as your tv. I dont think stretching this video out to an 32 inch tv or something like that would give a particularly pretty look either.
My friend and I were actually playing the new Rainbow Islands the other day. Maybe I'll get this too.
I'm sure you already know this but the trick to level 19 if you get stuck is to take out the remaining enemies with the lightning bubbles. The bolt always travels in the opposite direction to where you are facing.

...!
Wait a second, the BOSS can go angry? Wow. It must be impossible to avoid anything at that point.

It is. We were sooo close to beating the game. :(

CRTs can be tricky to play around with. Maybe there is a way to adjust the sharpness or something else?
I used a DVD recorder to grab this, then let Avisynth take care of the rest.
I'm glad somebody told me about the TDent() de-interlacer, because I never found a clear-cut way to do it. This is Composite by the way.

It's not a CRT. It's a Samsung flatscreen. For some reason they decided to ditch Coax support. That's what I meant.
Either way, it feels... kinda blurry, compared to your video. :(

Of course, there ARE differences between TVs.

you missed the crown, you should feel ashamed!

Man you really have to pay attention in this game. Sometimes, an item that clear the stage for you is right there if you wait.
Uh... what does that blue crown do?

I also said about the same thing when I saw that.
I guess they want to expand the franchises from more than just RPG's and the like.
