  • I LOVE CTR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @xXKinGofbLadEsXx Unfortunately there aren't enough people that do, best kart racer of all time.

  • LOL 3:45 I love how your voice cracks Daaugughhmage!

  • @Krypticflask Lol, nice catch, asshole =P

  • @Indead Thanks for your help but I figured put the video port on my tv was busted so I'm going to replace the tv and there will be no problem. I'm glad I still have the warranty lol

  • @cmanblck45 I suggest trying a DVD player or some newer console or something like that with composite out and see if that functions, hopefully everything will be already.

  • Do you know of a way to hook up an n64 to an hdtv?

  • @cmanblck45 The best I can tell you is to use an S-video cable, preferably a official brand, or maybe Monster or something, it'll still look pretty bad, just because it's a measly 320x240 resolution stretched to the TV, it would help if you forced 4:3 aspect ratio for games that use it, but other than just an S-video cable or a composite cable, there's no other real option. There is a higher quality cabled called SCART, but the US N64 needs to be modded to support it. It's more like Component.

  • @Indead Ok ill try that but i have av cords hooked up to my tv and i cannot get it to show a picture. I hear sound and i can control the character on the screen but there is no picture. Could this just be a bad A/V cable?

  • @cmanblck45 You know, I'm really not sure, I believe it just depends on the TV, I know for example I was playing PS games on a PS2 on my dad's HDTV using component out, and I couldn't get a picture out of the console, but it would play PS2 just fine. I'd really like to help otherwise, but other than trial and error, I really don't know anyway to fix the issue. Sorry man, that's why I always recommend keeping a nice tube TV around, I love my 32" Sanyo.

  • dude have u tested the s-video cable on a gemecube? does it look much better? i have a gamecube with s-video port and i was about to sell it but people tell me i have something valuable but i still need the s-video cable does it really look better?

  • @rocksbarman I think you're a bit mistaken with what you're referring to. The original model gamecubes, that were produced between.. I believe 2002 maybe 2004 came with a Component video out port. This was removed in later models, and the Gamecube Component cable, which was only sold by Nintendo was discontinued.

Again to stress it, Component video out, not S-video. S-video is a step below Component.

I'll tell you what I think in the next comment.

  • @rocksbarman Cont. So what I think is, yes you do have a "better" Gamecube if you will compared to some others on the market, however, those original model Gamecubes aren't exactly hard to come by either.

If you're curious on cable quality, here's what you should know. S-video is much better than the composite wire, however Component video is better than S-video. HOWEVER component cables on the Gamecube rarely sell for less than 70 dollars online, and it's easier to get Component out of a Wii.

  • @Indead damn man, thank you for the info and wow i think 70 dlls is too much for a cable, maybe ill stay like this lol

  • @rocksbarman The easiest way to get the best video out of Gamecubes is to buy a Wii, and buy Component cables for it.

There are many cable manufacturers, including Nintendo, selling cables for around $20-$25 so they're very reasonably priced, and this will enable to you to get Component out of your GC games, including 480p on compatible titles.

Personally, I'm waiting till I get a nice Black Wii bundle, before I start touching more GC games. Better visuals, and port 1's rumble is brokn on myGC

  • @Indead and where do i buy those cables?

  • @rocksbarman Wii component cables can be purchased at nearly any store that sells new Wiis, most Targets, walmarts, best buys, fry's electronics for example, all of those stores should carry them. They'll run you about 20-25 bucks depending on the brand.

  • @Indead sorry maybe i misunderstood, but is there a way to make the wii component cable work on the gamecube?

  • @ERICLEEPARKER As much as I wish there was a way, unfortunately not, they are completely different ports, but honestly if you're really that interested in playing GC games in Component, you might as well just get one of those new Wii bundles for $200 bucks.

  • I wish i could plug this cable into all the systems at the same time but then i can't get any audio. :(

  • @Riddler95 hey when i plug in my n64 into my hdtv with the avi cables it looks horrible, it is the only console that has this problem with my big tv; it's way too bright and the picture is terrible. But it doesn't have this problem with my tiny 10 year old tv. Will these cables fix the problem with my HDTV?

  • How much better does Playstation 1 and Nintendo 64 look with S-Video.

  • @Riddler95 I can tell you that they look marginally better, text is much clearer, the interference on the edges, as well as the color definition are much better with S-video over that of composite. However, I can tell you this, S-video seems to have a larger impact on that of the Playstation, compared to that of the N64, just because of the textures and the sharp polygons that the Playstation has, compared to that of the N64, which has more round characters, and blurred textures.

  • What if you hooked them all three at the same time and turn them up at the same time?

  • hey man where did you get the cable at? You dont mention what brand or where you got it at. I need a cable for my n64/snes/playstation to use with S video since they dont do composite, and im wondering what to look for. Theres a lot of genereic cheap chinese cables out there. I want a good one

  • just a quick question about the vga box for the dreamcast... when you use it on an hdtv is there no lag what so ever? ... and also how exacly does it hook to the tv.. like i would be using composite.. in your video i think u said u have to have a composite cable where both ends of the cable are the red white and yellow.. so like i cant use the composites that came with the dreamcast?

  • @CxKxYx First let me address your video cable question, no, you will not be able to use your Dreamcast composite cable. You will need seperate cables like you would use for a DVD player, or a cable box or the like.

Now your first question, you can use the VGA box to play on an HDTV, and Dreamcast games look outstanding on them by the way. Although, unfortunately, I have only use VGA on an HDTV once, and I didn't actually run any lag tests. I really wish I could answer that better though.

  • @Indead ok but how does the vga box connect to the hdtv? I keep hearing the hdtv has to have a vga port or something.. so how exactly would it connect to the tv.. im kinda confused on that

  • @CxKxYx Oh, sorry about that. Yes your HDTV will need a VGA port to connect the VGA box to it. You will then also need a proper means of getting audio out to either your speakers or your television. I think most HDTV's with VGA ports also have a proper Line In 3.5mm jack for such an occasion, which as I showed, the VGA box also has.

If your TV does not have VGA, then it's possible to get either a VGA to Component converter, or a VGA to DVI if your HDTV has DVI, but not VGA.

  • @CxKxYx My father's HDTV for example does not have an VGA port, so I am unable to test VGA on his TV, but the one that I used at my mother's house, the Sony one I referenced before, her's connected just fine, scaled properly, and informed me it was running 640x480 at 60hz, which is exactly what the Dreamcast does.

Any other questions, please let me know!

  • @Indead ok well lets say i decided to order a vga box.. does it come with instructions on how to connect it and everything.. cuz if i buy all this stuff i have to know it will work u know lol

  • @CxKxYx I use the VGA box shown here on a 46 inch Sony, some other models may have more apparent lag issues, but I only was able to test two or three games, Soul Calibur, and Toy Commander I know for sure, but I honestly don't recall how they performed, other than how amazing they looked.

I'd suggest looking around on some other forums, or asking other VGA box users, although, it may be a good idea to check out Racketboy's website, as he's an avid supporter of the VGA box.

  • Hey I just got s-video for my N64 and it looks like crap, it looks like your looks at the screen through a mesh or something, there's little squares everywhere, so you know why? Is it just a crappy s-video cable?

  • It's likely it is a low quality S-video cable. Also, it will depend on what type of TV you are using. For example on my dad's HDTV, composite almost looks better than the S-video cable I demonstrate here. There is another S-video cable floating around recently designed by MadCatz, that has support for SNES/N64/GC/PS/PS2/PS3/Xbox/Xbox 360, and that one is actually of higher video quality than the one I use now, BUT it was easily damaged due to disconnecting and connecting the cables.

  • Although, I do see a few little blocks here and there on my S-video cable for the SDTV you'll see in my other videos, but I really have to look for them, they don't stand out. But either way, the cable looks much better than composite does, so I take this as a minor complaint, until I can find another set of those MadCatz S-video cables. I'll be much more careful with them this time.

  • too bad it doesnt have an HDMI or HD componant outsput. S-video sucks. it was a failure god knows why they developed s-video...

  • Good job spelling component wrong. S video was developed when the only other alternative was composite which is even worse than S video. HDMI and COMPONENT were not around when S video was originally made.

  • yeh but s-video was very fragile and easily broken, it never took off well. things maybe better but doesnt mean they dont fail. for example the dreamcast?? it was better than psx but it failed and went under. a perfect example. so dont try and out wit me when you cant. end. just because i made a typing error doesnt mean i cant spell? shows your moronic outlook on situations. dick.

  • You still spelled things wrong. No matter, all cables break. S Video may not have "taken off" as well as composite but that is only because soon after S video came out, component came out, and component could utilize an even higher resolution. By the way, your statement that Dreamcast is better than PS1 is an opinion. Find me the specs of both systems and maybe I will agree, but for now I know that S Video was actually better than composite. Thanks for responding I love arguments.

  • too many wires XD i just wanna know if i have a s wire or whatever lol.. i have a 57 inch hd tv with a ps3 XD

  • For an HDTV like that, you're going to want either Component or HDMI for your PS3, then you should be in awesome business, don't bother with S-video at all.

  • PS1 FTW :D

  • Have you tried your n64 svideo connection on an HDTV?

I wanted to know if the svideo connection improves the n64 output image at all

  • Yes it does in fact improve it. But it still looks really bad, the Cable I haven't isn't exactly the best to use, you'd probably be better off goign with a higher quality one(maybe even just playing it safe and going with monster) although, my dad's HDTV also seems to have just a crappy upscaler in it. So honestly, it depends.

    Best of luck.

  • My PAL N64 looks awesome on my HDTV by just using the composite cable, By TV must be really good at upscaling...

  • S'gotta be it, unfortunately, my dad's HDTV has a horrible upscaler...

  • what is this cable called

  • I'm gonna be honest, I dont' know what they call this one, I bought it used in a plastic bag, and not in the original package. You may be able to find it online.

    Sorry man.

  • hey does anyone know about the Xbox 360 Premium S-Video AV Cable cuz i lost my xbox 360s cable for the tv does that work with the tv cuz idk much about that stuff

  • Look on the TV(back or side wherever you plug video cables in, but probably not on the front)and see if you have an S-video port on it. Check online for what an S-video port looks like. If your TV has an S-video port, then there should be no reason as to why the Premium S-video cable wouldn't work. Please ask if you have anymore questions.

  • so pretty much it needs an s video port so almost every tv has an Av cable then right the red yellow and white cabes rigght cuz i need one of those cuz i lost that cable and im pissed cuz i gotta get one of those

  • Well if you're wanting to use S-video(superior picture quality than standard yellow(composite)) then you're going to need an S-video port. But if you're just going to use composite(yellow) then just get a standard AV cable. And to answer your questions about TVs with composite, nearly every TV made from the mid 90s and later should have at least one composite connection on it somewhere.

  • OH OK and if i buy it it should be like wat 10 15 bucks right cuz i need one and just the S video cable works on that part or an AV 2

  • I'm going to be honest, I don't know what the price will cost you. Just take a trip or make a phone call to your local game store and see if they can help you. If you can get one with S-video AND composite on one cable than that might be a good buy, that way you could use a better quality if the TV you're on has it, otherwise, go down to composite.

  • alright cool dude thanks

  • Awesome, best of luck dood. And as I tell everyone, please keep me posted if ya' don't mind! =D

  • yeah no prob man and hopefully cuz i have bought a hell of shit and been PISSED and hey if u got a PS3 or 360 add me i guess im xDarKSorrowx on PSN and AHshadowsalem83 on LIVE

  • does anybody know if component works with snes

  • There is probably some sort of crazy mod, and you may be able to use some sort of converter to get Component, but it of course does not output a component signal by default.

  • I have a mad catz AV switch. It has four sets of AV connectors and a switch. It came with a cheap ass AV cable, But I switched it out for an RCA AV cable thats much higher quality and it actually made the picure look better for my ps2, Xbox and yes even the Genesis. Now Im sure its not S video good. But the difference is noticeable. The colors look better.

  • Excellent man, do what you can to get better quality gaming man ;)

I'm a fan of good colors, they just make the game look so much more enjoyable, could you imagine platformers without really vibrant, and deep colors? Mario would never be the same...

Also, is it the same switch that I have?

Go to 4 minutes in this video to see the one I use.

  • where did you get it?

  • From our local retro gamestore.

I'm sure it would be easier to find one online rather than in your game stores.

  • ok cool thanks!

  • Do I need a vga box for my Dreamcast if I have the s-video cable? And will it look grainy on my hdtv if I use it? Thanx.

  • From what I know, unfotrunately, I don't have a HDTV with an VGA port that I could try out, but form what I know, using VGA should be a much better picture than S-video. Plus it will be 480p. It shouldn't look as grainy as S-video does, because VGA is a sharper picture.

Beware though, if you're going to play 2D games on your Dreamcast, they can become heavily pixelated by VGA, it's just far too sharp for the graphics, and the resolution isn't high enough to cover them up.

  • which has better graphics on a ps1 game a playstation 1 with s-video or a ps2 using composite but in the main menu u press triangle and go to playstation driver and changing the texture mapping and can the ps2 use s-video on a ps1 game??

  • Well, of course it's all personal preference, but, I would say arguably, the better graphics would be the texture smooting for the PS2, because it's actually improving the graphical quality, not just clearing it up like an S-video cable would.

Although... if you have an S-video cable that would work for your Playstation...why wouldn't it work for the Ps2 is the thing ;)

But, as always, it's all personal preference.

    Honestly, there's a chance I might just go witht he PS1 =X

  • Does the N64 one also work with SNES?

  • Why, yes it does! It will work for SNES, N64 and Gamecube.

  • Will the quality be its best on HDTV's? Because my composite cables (or RCA) look really bad and blurry on my HDTV.

  • Okay, so here's where things get a bit tricky. It is likely you will get the best quality on an HDTV with an N64, using S-video instead of composite. However, if you buy a low quality S-video cable, it is possible that the video signal could be damaged by trying to display it on the HDTV, and there is a chance that the standard composite could look better. But, from what I know, using the S-video SHOULD look better on an HDTV, than composite would.

  • so if I get the brand you have, I should be fine?

  • Personally, I really like this S-video cable, so if you'd like to grab this one, go ahead and do so.

Also, just remember, if you're playing N64 games on an HDTV, unless the game is playing in Widescreen, which many N64 games don't support, always remember to revert to the 4:3 resolution and not the 16:9 of the HDTV. This will always improve video quality, as it's not stretching the pixels anymore than they already are being.

  • Ive just got a N64 , but the picture is really bad/fuzzy because the pin is loose (i think thats why its so bad) Anyway, if i get a new cable will that fix the problem?

  • If by the pin you mean the Yellow Composite RCA jack, then getting a new cable should fix the problem. Although if you're referring to something within the console itself, I can't promise that a new cable will fix this problem.

  • Its the pin in the original RF cable. Ive ordered a new composite cable so hopefully that will fix it. Thanks.

  • hey that first cable you have is made by madcatz right? well i think it is cause i just got the same one, well it has a 2 year warranty on it, so i guess if you want a new one just call up madcatz

  • Your composite cables are much different from the one I just bought. I was looking for some info on S-Video cables since I dunno how to make mine work with my Wii.

My S-Video cable doesn't have the composite things that come built in it. It's just a regular cable with a round circular hole with some tiny tiny metal rods on the inside of it...it's weird though...I need a video out to use it or something >:(

I heard S-Video is rape sauce for getting enhanced video for when I record my games.

  • Two things I really need to know: first, exactly where was this purchased AND second, did you do a real side by side comparison to see if the output video is "true" s-video and much better than the regular composite? Thanks!

  • I got rid of PS when I got a modded PS2 that can play all my PS games. Then I don't have a N64, Wii Virtual Console takes care of some N64 needs.

    I do have a Dreamcast though :D

  • Yeah, I'd love to have a modded PS2 to take care of Playstation needs as well. I gotta keep the 64 though, whether or not I get a Wii ;)

And after I realized just how much I had been missing, yes, I'll never get rid of my Dreamcast.

  • No.. idk. but maybe I should give it back to you when I do find it.

  • Hey that's mine!.... do you have yours play station?? cause... idk where it is 0.0

  • No... you're supposed to have it still, does your dad have it?

I don't think you gave it to me that time you went out of town or anything. Is it in your sister's room?

  • hey dude, just wondering, where did u get that vga box for 13 bucks? probably local, i bet.

  • Sorry I should have clarified better, the cable was 13 bucks, I bought that VGA box online for roughly 20 bucks. I love the thing ;) Take note that its' a 3rd party VGA box, not the officials. Which go for about 50 bucks on Ebay.

  • Nice vid. how did you hook up all your video games systems to one tv?

  • I have a switch box that my mom bought me at Gamecrazy about a year or two ago. It has all sorts of jacks, i think maybe I'll do a quick review about it in another video.

I has 4 Switches, in the first I hook up my 360 through component, the second, PS2 through component, third Xbox through component, and the last port only has S-video so I hook up all the consoles I showed in this video, including a gamecube, and I also swap that jack out for S-video on my Saturn.

  • I bought an S-Video cable for my Gamecube, but something was off. It made the picture look worse than the composite. I don't get why. It looked like a lot of interference lines maybe, but I'm not sure from what. Anyway, seems like you've got a nice cable there. Nice vid.

  • It could be that the cable itself had bad shielding. Some video cables are of higher build quality than others, which is why Monster cables are so expensive. They have high shielding reducing interference. Likely the composite cables you were using before were Nintendo brand and were of higher quality than the S-video cable you bought. Most of the video cables on the Market now are 3rd part, and are generally lower quality than the 1st party unless you go with say Monster.

  • Although monster S-video cables are about 50 dollars for Gamecube...

  • That makes sense. My cable was less than $10 I think. I'm not ready to drop the extra dough right now for the Cube, but when I am, I will try a better cable.

  • I'd love to have a Wii for playing Gamecube games on =P

I have another cable, component, that has PS2/PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360, I have a friend who periodically brings over his Wii and it looks great on Component. Which of course means much better quality on gamecube games than S-video =P and of course 480p if I use a Progressive Scan TV.

  • Looks like that cable is serving you well. That's good. And was that your phone ringing there?

  • Yeah it was lol, my mom called. Sorry if it's insanely loud. I had my phone volume up pretty high and it wasn't near me, so i forgot to mute it for recording.
