Lol @ all of you ranting about the gift. It wasn't assumed to be a gift to Troy from the Greeks. In the best known version of the tale, the Greeks left it as a trap for the Trojans, and sailed away leaving the Trojan Horse with 30 or so men inside. The Trojans pulled it into the city as a sort of victory trophy, Greeks snuck out at night, opened the gates and then GG Troy.

Also, seeing Sean Bean and Orlando Bloom in the same movie made me decide I wanted John Rhys Davies for Agamemnon, Viggo Mortenson for Achilles, Ian McKellan for Priam, and, uh lets see... ohh yeah Liv Tyler for Helen. And Elijah Wood for Patroclus. No clue about Cristopher Lee, though.

I think Troy was an awesome movie, and 300 also was great. They are both historical enough, with some glaring flaws. The Spartans were in large part so great at fighting because of their equipment (ie- ARMOR), not Superman capes and Sharpie 6-packs. But its true there were only 300 of them with Leonidas, and they had non-Spartan aid numbering in the 1000s. After Leonidas, I don't know how many Spartans retaliated. As for Troy....

Orlando Bloom as Paris is just about PERFECT.

Although to be honest Im not too big of a fan of Brad Pitt playing achillies, he just diden't seem right for the part or something.

However I was really glad to see Sean Bean in another great movie.

I accept 300to be not realistic because it's based mainly on a comicbook (greeks not fighting in phalanx the proper way would be a mistake in other way), and in it's atmosphere and visuality it fits to it well. But I prefer Troy as a movie, for example fighting scenes are more realistic and better directed. Truth is non of them are realistic in the historical meaning. It's a bigger problem at Troy as it has no alternative base like a comicbook, only primarly the Illyad but it doesn't fit to it.

300 is based on history. A group of 300 Spartans led by king Leonidas actually did take into a suicide mission as a diversion for the main army. Persia did invade Sparta and attempt to take it during the Greek-Persian wars called the Punic wars. Look it up if needed.

And yes, Spartan boys were sent to military camp at age 7. No wonder their military was great.
