  • What year was this recorded?

  • Add my thanks to all the others for posting this. I've been going cold turkey since the hi-rez version was taken off and just found this one. WhooHoo!

  • Does anyone know what happened to the high quality post of this performance?

  • @hollingvincouer

I'm sorry for the bad qulity of this movie.

I think that the better one is deleted from youtube. I recorded it with a prehistoric videorecorder and an older tape.

  • @hollingvincouer

search for "Let The Mystery Be - Iris DeMent H.Q."

  • @hollingvincouer

  • It is so sweet that it breaks my heart.

  • I get to see her perform tomorrow night!!! =D

  • Lucky you.

    I saw her years ago.

It was an impressive gig, because she was alone with a guitar or a piano.

  • wow, you're lucky, have a fun night :)

  • Let us know how it was- I remember the first time I saw. She was opening for Mary Black in ABQ and it was, well, really her sincerity and exuberance just sticks with me to this day. Hope she's still that way.

  • You should have done, and yourself with it.

  • You cannot tell me that is all you noticed from this wonderfully rich and full of love video? You having trouble with things of beauty? Gosh.

  • Beautiful!

  • You have obviously another opinion about this song than other writers.

I prefer a big cold beer if you don't mind.

It's not my all time favorite, but I like her music.

  • the meaning of life, just plain beautiful

  • She has the voice and face of an angel.....

  • It's not often something spontaneously moves me to tears.

  • I'm trying to find sheet music for this in Piano and Guitar but so far no luck. Any Help??

  • another fantastic performence from Iris, great song

  • These Transatlantic Sessions videos are the closest thing to a time machine I've ever seen. You can watch these people aging in a matter of minutes. The quality of this video adds to the illusion, it's like this video made it to YouTube just in time before being lost forever. This is one of the best things about YouTube.

  • Right on OBH--

As a young man I caught my music on the run rarely seeing the entertainer between jobs and school. UTube to me is by far the most incedibl;e web site because I can see their expressions and the accompanying musicans and get the entire package al the way through from young to older. YouTube has perked up this old mans retirement. TY

  • You know what they say in the old saloon.

Ain't no talkin bout religion or politiks.

    haha

  • LOL. You are an idiot (except you are correct about her voice).

  • superb. can music get better than this?

  • No mystery... Big Jock Knew.

  • only a brain dead dob would make this statement, get a life asshole

  • Wow, I love this. It gets better every time I hear it : ))

  • This is my favorite of Iris' songs --- and that little endearing smile at the end made my heart jump into my throat and brought a tear.

  • reminds me so much of a certain 10 year old girl singing this song with so much pride 'cause she heard Iris singing it. Back in the early '90's, such fond memories.

  • Love her vocals

  • Great music...Not so great video

  • I'm sorry for the qulity of the video.

    There's a better version on youtube !!!

  • Too good...as close to a flawless vocal performance of song that I have ever heard.

  • Uniquely Iris! So pretty!

  • thanks for uploading!!

  • How terribly cute

  • love the music, love the message, love that attitude. she's great.

  • I heard her (this song) for the first time a couple of weeks ago on Hillbilly at Harvard WHRB, and I ran to get my pen and paper when he said who it was. I know a good singer when I hear one. I thought she was a brand-new act! This song is from 1993? Wow! I have some catching up to do on Iris DeMent! I am from Boston so her accent really knocks me out! I love it! I also love the little nose wrinkle she did when she mentioned carrots. That was CUTE!

  • isn't she just great here, relaxed, and as sweet as all get out... and the smile at the end that just says, 'didn't I do well then'.

  • Beautiful song, beautiful woman, love them both

  • Very clever woman. Very unique. Greeat song.

  • I just lost my aunt a few weeks ago and this was one of her favorite songs. now everytime i listen to it, it makes me think of her... which leads to crying.

  • good tune, great lyrics, simple melody... what more could a person want...

  • John Prine said it all. I love Iris Dement

  • Look up Iris and John Prine. A song called "In Spite Of Ourselves". FUNNY!!!

  • Great song.

  • iris fans... check out the film "songcatcher" which she plays a part in and created music for

  • Thank you so much for listing this movie.... I'm going to try to see it...

  • waiting for that video to hit YouTube.. its what turned me on to Iris Dement

  • I've been her fan for about 12 years. Wish that she would release another album or 3

  • love her singin style! definetly unique...

  • Loved this unique, old style song since I heard it in 1993. Very 30's like when quartets would sing out in the small counties in Oklahoma/Arkansas.
