Wow you are naive. You saying these boys didnt take LSD? Or maybe their music isnt trippy?
32 years later, and this track is still just as crisp and fresh! (Not that I was around to hear it when it was new, mind you, but I think it sounds far less dated than many of the big hit-makers of 1978).

I'd say it sounds like a cross between "This Year's Model" and Joe Jackson. Everyone was doing the dub/reggae backbeat thing then, but the Police weren't quite as jerky in their execution.

I am very dissapointed Pierre. I just found out elsewhere that you take drugs yourself. And what is with all the porno movies. I thought you were to God-fearing for that.
Oh christ, oh christ. The album (and the single) version of this is one of the greatest songs by XTC, but this really does everything even better. 5/5

This is just a kick ass tight band. I Love Barry's organ stabs. Not too much into him and Andy's "Monstrance" album..but the first 2 XTC albums are killer...as well as everything from XTC Mach 2+
hey, i can relate to the very real phenomena of stage fright coming upon you late in life. i experienced the same thing, at almost the same age it gripped andy. stage fright or not, i'm totally in love with him.
iheard andy partridge used to get horrible stage fright. that's why they stopped playing live all together. hard to really believe that judging by how comfortable he seems on stage here. probably before all the acid he started taking.
Actually, the stage fright kicked in after he went OFF the drugs: according to an XTC bio, he was addicted to valium... until his then-wife tossed his stash.
I was at this concert and haven't seen it since it was first shown on TV back in 1977! We didn't have a video recorder back then :(
campfreddie, a big thankyou for reviving memories of a great concert. The video finishes before the applause when you can hear me whistling my appreciation :)
Great band. These Barry Andrews-era singles were absolutely brilliant. I think I even like them better than the later years, the song were shorter and snappier.
The first thing I remember listening to on John Peel was the first Xtc session which I taped on my wee mono recorder. I saw a band last week called The Magnificents who were totally a rip off of early White Music era Xtc.
one of the best live band ever, whether with barry andrews or dave gregory ( i prefer them with dave gregory)...too bad they stopped performing at such an early stage in their career...Andy Partridge is a genius, although i bet he still regrets not writing Making plans for Nigel himself :-)
know it...somewhere here in the youtube there's should be live footage of andy leaving the stage during his last performance...actually something real quiet

they are a grand band, but they're under-rated b/c they didn't tour. Too bad, but check AP's record label (APE) lots of good up-n-comers

AP says at the beginning "You can pop your acid Spangle in there now, were going to do a Rita Coolidge number.."
Spangles were a popular UK sweet/candy in 60's and 70's, one of the flavours being 'Acid Drop'.

After turning his back to God, Satan came up and tricked poor Moronic Andy into the false belief that he has Stage Fright.
How funny. Too bad Andy, Mr. Atheist "I don't need God" tough guy cannot perform in front of folks.
What a pussy wimp.

You spent hours trawling through Youtube, Google, garageband, Yahoo in your lame effort to dig up stuff about me.
Of course, you must fear me if you throw away that much time from your life over me and a few Youtube comments.
Yet, you know that you are a coward, since you killed your Youtube acct under the name "uivel1of3nonmod".
Next time, ask for my URLs. I will give them, freely, you chicken.
